Gunhild Marchant, piano teacher and author
From the beginning, German born Gunhild Uta Marchant (née
Francke), who comes from a talented musical family whose extensive
roots include Clara Wieck, breathed in music and music education.
After arriving in Australia with her husband in 1960, she resumed piano lessons with noted pianist Stephen Dornan, OAM, with whom she completed her AMusA Diploma. She has since taught the piano successfully to a large variety of students. It was this experience which led her to fill a glaring gap in the teaching materials available for the little and not so little fingers of beginner pianists.
Three unique influences came together, after thirty years of teaching, to produce this educational aid in the form of simple but methodically developed technical exercises which fill a gaping need in this somewhat neglected field of piano tutoring material.
