所有頂尖的B-School都在更新課程,以趕上時代潮流,Fuqua也不例外。在課程的創新上,Fuqua緊追華頓和密西根之後。自一九九一年起,一學期(semester)為期14週的架構已被一學期分成三個階段所取代:每學期的第一週是整合性\介紹性的program、緊接著兩個為期七週的修課部份。所以,不再有冗長的講課、重覆的課堂教材,一門課只有短短的七週(類似歐洲的module),所以再也沒有教授和學生可以摸魚打混。目前 Fuqua的新課程就像下面這樣:

早在一九七四年,公爵大學Fuqua School第一次召開由企業界人士所組成的董事會,才過四歲生日的Fuqua在會計系教授升任教務長的Thomas F. Keller率領下,洗耳恭聽企業大亨們的建言:『你們不像一個B-School,充其量只是個管理學系,而且,還是個不怎麼出色的科系!』言猶在耳,轉眼間Fuqua已經是躋身全美國B-School top 20的頂尖學府。

Fuqua近年來的表現有目共睹。他大力延攬財務及行銷名師,到處向企業界募款更新硬體設備,更以無比的魄力提升對顧客的服務品質(對Fuqua而言,顧客滿意度重於一切)。西邊校園一幢全新的、鋼鐵與玻璃建造的、現代感十足的系館才於一九八九年竣工,裡面有馬蹄型的教室、能容納五百人的大講堂、和全新的教學設備!九○年的學生抱怨系上影印機品質差,電腦雷射印表機又不足,結果他們放了一個寒假回來後,發現所有的影印機被更新了新型機種,而雷射印表機的數量也加倍了。九二年一位學生反應由於衝堂,他必須放棄一門十分想修的選修課。行政人員得知後,二話不說就幫他與教授商量,解決了他的衝堂問題。在Fuqua,total quality management不光只是一門課,還是一個『共識』。

Fugua是個一般管理的MBA Program,學校並不硬性規定你非選擇主修不可,但假若你想要有個主修,也有兩個領域可以選:accounting和health services management。後者是九三年以後才由原先的Department of Health Administration加入Fuqua School ,成為MBA的一部份。Fuqua的課程不是基礎性的課程,而是重團隊、整合性、又創新的課程。所以假若你入學時對商業知識一無所知,而期待在Fuqua唸兩年能使你對商業的各種功能性領域做初步的了解,你選錯了學校!大多數進入Fuqua的學生,即使大學部唸文學、又不具有企業界工作經驗,Fuqua仍一視同仁,將你丟進快步調的(一門課七週!)整合性課程中,因為Fuqua 相信,訓練出具有整合各項商業功能的整合性人才是他們辦商業高等教育的宗旨。

Fuqua最強的領域是財務和行銷。近年來Fuqua力捧他的行銷系,不但由UCLA、卡耐基•美隆、和其他頂尖B-Schools中大力挖角行銷名師,還贊助一個由學生自己經營的行銷年會,每年由世界各地請來超級行銷大師給演講、參與討論。Fuqua學生並利用課餘時間在校內經營了一個小吃攤兼雜貨店“Kiosk”,並為殘障人士的奧運發起募款活動。除了行銷年會,他們還經營創業年會、國貿年會 ....-等,為校園帶來各行各業中的前輩與他們的經驗談。

自從一九七二年第一批十二名Fuqua人在此地戴上MBA的冠冕,到今日才剛屆弱冠之年!Fuqua二十有成,分佈在全球的校友已超過四千五百人。在有限的校友網路中,對母校回饋的熱心與誠意卻是無限的。有錢的出錢改善Fuqua School的硬體設備,沒錢的出力充當學弟妹門的企業導師或就業輔導員。也就是因為這樣,Fuqua在短短二十年內無論在B-Schools中或美國企業界內都快速竄升。九五年的全美國B-School商業排名Fuqua被排上了十一,只差一名就進入了top 10!而在美國的企業界,Fuqua校友個個中流砥柱,位居要職,例如:IBM就有133個Fuqua校友、Northern Telecom (60)、P&G (41)、General Electric (40) 等等。

一九九五年老教務長Thomas F. Keller即將功成身退,光榮退休。陪著Fuqua走過『從無到有』的二十年,Keller『無中生有』的本事,使得美國企業界再也沒有人會說他的學校是個不怎麼出色的管理系了,因為人人都看得到,今日的Fuqua是站在美國商業高等教育金字塔最尖端的一所 top 11 B-School!

Fuqua has truly exemplified excellent customer service by exceeding all of my initial high expectations. This service is provided through the combination of an energetic culture, unlimited flexibility and strong partnerships between faculty, students, and administration. I came to Fuqua because of the school's commitment to the Health Services Management concentration. While my interests were in health-related industries, I did not have the experience or background to make this career jump. The flexibility of the curriculum allowed me to structure my courses to obtain a strong general management background while concentrating in health services management. Without this kind of flexibility, I would not have been able to round out my previously technical background (a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern U.)

When deciding which business school to attend, I looked at several top schools, all of which seemed quite comparable academically. What set Fuqua apart was the dynamic atmosphere here. Many organizations claim to embrace the concepts of continuous improvement and inclusiveness, but students at Fuqua not only witness these concepts in action, they are active participants in the process. People here believe, correctly, that what they do really does make a difference. The result is a positive, supportive and active Fuqua community.

My international exchange to the University of Cape Town in South Africa, coupled with my Fuqua education, has provided me with the skills to manage and lead companies effectively beyond the year 2000. The most valuable residual effect of my experiences at Fuqua and in South Africa has been the emergence of personal parameters that have refined my approach to cultural and ethnic differences. The Fuqua administration's daily actions cultivate one's ability to evaluate the culture to which one is aligned, while stimultan- eously challenging the status Geo.. The constant refinement of personal and professional skills is certainly enhanced through the Fuqua experience and will be invaluable in motivating a diverse group of employees in the future.

I entered b-school with the intention to broadening my scope of knowledge to include several functional areas. I wanted to know an overall business, not just one particular function. Fuqua's general management approach and flexibility in elective choice were ideally suited for my needs. Prior to coming, my background had been exclusively airline marketing, and my education had been entirely liberal arts. By the end of my first year, the core curriculum had exposed me to finance, accounting, operations, economic theory, broader applications of marketing and much more. The second year I further strengthened my general management perspective by taking such varied electives as Corporate Finance, Total Quality Management and Services Marketing.
