Chapter 1 – Vampire Hunter

Voice: This is Hellsing.  This is control.

Report your position Alucard.

Alucard: Oh, I’m sorry.

But I was just admiring the moon.

Voice: Buck up Alucard.  We’re depending on you.

Alucard: I know, I’m sorry, it’s just the moon was too beautiful …

Narration: In the English village of Cheddar, 14 June, Wednesday.

A priest arrived at its church.

A very strange priest.

He rarely came out, even when it was day, staying hidden in the dark chapel.

When he did come out, he would wear a shroud, and even then, he would only leave the chapel on cloudy days or on pitch dark nights.

It was almost as if he hated the sun.

The strange occurrences started a week after his arrival.

The first incident concerned the disappearance of a youth visiting from a neighbouring village.

That was only the beginning …

Within the next 10 days, 10 villagers had already disappeared.

The villagers were terrified.  They had never seen the likes of this before.

One brave youth managed to escape to a neighbouring village and raise the alarm to the police.

And then it was rumoured that they saw him there one night, standing in the dark.

At first it was too dark to see properly, but in the pale light of the moon, they saw it clearly at last … the priest had blood dripping from his mouth.

Hoping to obtain answers from him, the villagers and police rushed to the chapel.  Unfortunately, they could not have chosen a worse time to question him for it was evening and night was nearing.

2 days later …

5 July, on the road towards Cheddar.

Police: We have waited a long time for you Lord Hellsing, Sir Integra.

Integra: Where is the officer that called me?

Police: This way please.  We can hardly manage the situation.

Officer: You are Sir Integra?  What is going on with this village?

Integra: Don’t worry.  From now on, we’re taking over.

Officer: We’ve lost contact with the officers we’ve sent in 3 hours ago.  One of our cameras caught sight of shadowy figures.  What is going on?

Integra: It appears to be ghouls.  The village must be full of them now.

Police: What’s going on?  I don’t understand what you are implying.

Integra: Well, when the vampire’s victim is not a virgin, he or she will become a ghoul.  Most vampires will not hesitate to raise an army of ghouls and control them; so from the signs I would say there is definitely a vampire in the village.

Officer: Ghouls?  Vampires?

Integra: Yes [notes, don’t you love her _expression]

Officer: How can this be possible?  How do you expect me to believe you?  What nonsense are you spouting?

Integra: This is the truth.  It’s irrelevant whether you believe me as your work has ended.

You are too low-ranking to have heard of me and the work I do but it is no matter.  We are Hellsing, part of the Knights of the Round Table.  We have fought monsters for close to a hundred years.

In fact, our organization was set up for this one purpose, to defend the Crown and the English church against all monsters.

So now the vampire within the village is our opponent.  It is futile for you to send in more men, be they police or soldiers, you’re merely sending the vampire more fresh meat.

Male vampires prefer female virgins and vice versa.  It is only on obtaining a virgin victim that they can propogate.  Those that are left are only fit to become ghouls, mindless slaves of the vampire who bit them.

We must kill the master vampire so that the ghouls will automatically collapse.  And that’s my job.

Police: How is this possible?

Integra: Our agent has already been assigned to the case and is on his way to the village of Cheddar.  He should be arriving within the hour.

Police: …

Officer: Who is this agent?  Are you sure that he can handle this?

Integra: His name is Alucard.  He is a professional, especially when it comes to dealing with vampires.

Alucard: What a beautiful night.  It is a night like this that makes you want to drink blood.  What a lovely and quiet night …

Priest: Haha, it is useless for you to run.

[page 18]

It is equally futile for you to point your gun at me.  Vampires cannot be hurt by guns such as this.

Your comrades are now my slaves, why don’t you join them?

I only want loyal slaves.  I have no interest in creating female vampires who can think for themselves.  Besides in this day and age, a woman of your age would no longer be a virgin.

And so I’ll ravish you and drink your blood before turning you into one of my mindless troops.

Seras: No, I don’t want to …

Alucard: Stay your hand.

Have you had enough yet?

It is shameful what you new generation have degenerated to.  What makes you different from a common thug?

[page 21]

Priest: What do you want?  Are you a lost bum?

Alucard: My name is Alucard.  I am an agent of Hellsing, a professional disposer of things such as you.

Priest: Professional?  Professional disposer?  What are you saying?  What a joke!

Kill him.

Already dead my dear professional?

[page 24]

Alucard: Hahaha … guns are useless against me, guns are useless against vampires are they not?

Normal guns are useless against me.

[page 27]

Priest: Who are you?  Why are you a vampire helping humans?

Alucard: You new generation vampires are such a troublesome bunch.  You fools.  What are you trying to do?  Do you think this is a game?  I have my reasons for taking orders from humans.

These bullets were made from the blessed silver melted from a cross in the great cathedral.  No vampire has taken one and survived to tell the tale.

[page 28]

So now, die.

Priest: Stop wait … don’t move.

She’s the last survivor, I’m sure you don’t want her dead.  I make no demands other than you allow me to escape.

[page 29]

Alucard: Girl, tell me, are you still a virgin?

Priest: What are you saying?

Alcuard: I’m asking you, are you a virgin, answer me!

Priest: What?  Damn you, don’t make any foolish moves now.

Alucard: Answer me!

Seras: Yes … yes … I am!

[page 30]

Priest: What?

[page 32]

Alucard: To shoot his heart, I had to shoot you too.  Unfortunately, you have sustained a large wound and cannot hold up for long.

So now, what shall we do?

[page 33]

Police: He’s back …

Police 2: That’s Hellsing’s …

Integra: How was it Alucard?

Alucard: The main vampire is dead but there are no survivors.

Integra: What?  What about that girl?

Police: Isn’t that a survivor?

Seras: But I’m dead …

Integra: !!

What are you doing you pig head!

Alucard: I had no choice …

Seras: I’m sorry …

Integra: What the hell?  There are no survivors?

Narration: Congratulations, although there is hardly anything to be congratulated.
