Chapter 4 – Sword Dancer 1

Narration: Near Rome, Catholic Orphanage, South Florentine Road

Andersong: Stop the quarrel.

Now what’s the problem?

Boy: Marcus started it.

Boy 2: Did not.  Nelson tore my books.

Boy: What?

Andersong: Stop it both of you.

Violence is not correct.

Continue like this and you’ll never to get to heaven.

Only heathens and demons resort to violence.

[page 91]

Priest: Ah father Andersong.

Andersong: To your rooms boys.

Boys: Yes father.

[page 92]

Anderson: What’s up?  Has something happened?

Priest: That have been many strange occurrences of late.  Especially in England.

Andersong: It appears to have been well covered up.

Priest: It’s vampires.

Andersong: Oh?

Priest: We’ve found vampires in England, and in large numbers.

[page 93]

Andersong: So the Protestants in England must be dying by the numbers.

Priest: No, haven’t you heard of the Knights of the Round?

They are doing better than we expected.  The death count is extremely low.

Andersong: Ha, that kind of organisation is nothing compared to us, the Catholics, the Vaticans.  We’ve been fighting them even a hundred years before the Protestants.

[page 94]

And what has this got to do with me?  Let the English solve their own problems.

Priest: I would agree if the attack had taken place in England.

Andersong: What do you mean?

Priest: It’s in North Ireland, in the town of Belleek *.

Andersong: oh ...

Priest: We have not made any noise formally but this doesn’t mean we’ll let it rest.

Andersong: To encroach on other’s territory, don’t they know the meaning of shame?

It is not their Protestant lands but within our Catholic jurisdiction.

Priest: The vampires are our prey, do not let the Protestants get them first Andersong.

Andersong: And if I have to confront them?

Priest: It is only us Catholics who can administer God’s will Andersong ... we will not accept anyone’s challenge.

Narration: Belleek

[page 97]

Near Belleek, 15 August

[page 98]

Alucard: Sheesh you zombies.  Hey policewoman ...

Seras: Huh?  Yes?

Alucard: Stop daydreaming, come in and help clear the trash.

This is bothersome, you take over.

Seras: I’m coming (thinks, Oh dear, I’m talking to him telepathically, I’m really getting less human as this goes on)

Alucard: Hurry up.

[page 100]

Seras: They’re not people anymore, just mindless puppets.  One good shot should take care of things.

Alucard: That’s the way to do it.

Not bad policewoman, truly you are qualified to join our ranks.

Hey policewoman, aim at their hearts won’t you.  They didn’t become ghouls by choice.

They can’t change back.  The best you can do for them is to end their misery quickly.

[page 109]

You’re finally getting the hang of things.  Do you now understand the true meaning of being a creature of the night?

Ah, we’re done with the minions … we only need exterminate the head vampire and we can pack up and go home.

[page 113]

Is this a kekkai (note: Japanese Chinese concept of a time/force trap)?

[page 116]

Andersong: We are the agents of God, his instruments of punishment.  With my dying breath, I will clear all those who oppose him and me.

[page 117]

Narration: London, headquarters of the Knights

Soldier: Sir, Commander Sir?

I have the news from Belleek.

Lord: It’s the Vaticans, Iscariots’ 13th division ... they have started moving troops in.

Integra: Iscariot?  13th division?  I see, the Vatican’s troops have moved.  What is their troop strength?

Lord: Only one, it’s the Paladin Alexander Andersong!

* The romanisation of the affected Irish town in the manga is unclear, i.e. "Beirick" which some sites have read as "Patrick". I have chosen to use the name of Belleek instead as it is a town in Ireland even though it is in South Ireland rather than North Ireland.
