The following is a list of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies with regards to the 18th Louisiana and the Consolidated 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment and Yellow Jacket Battlaion. These records give some historical details as to activities with regards to the regiment that my ancestor, Placide Fabien Richard, Pvt., Co. K., 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment served with during the American Civil War.

Some records contain only referrences in passing while others contain detailed information.

Please keep in mind, when reading the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies that the information contained is a very important part of the history of a regiment. The information that is written down is normally done by an officer who still retains current memories of the events depected in the OR's and is attempting to make the report as accurate as possible. Also, keep in mind that the report may also be "tainted" in favor of the officer's military career -- meaning that some information, though accurate to a degree, is also somewhat biased to reflect on the finer points of the event being reported.
