Why is this CD being "given" away?

This is a long story and ultimately a sad one. It was always the intention that WAG was going to be the final CD for Idealworld. We had waged the battles in area and regional music venues with limited success and numerous headaches. A lot of good times and great shows as well. Every release was marketed to the best of our ability and sent to every record label we could get an address to. There were some bites but it was usually the same story in the end... Still, you do it because that's what you love to do. But at some point I guess you start to see the writing on the wall.  With everyone drifting in different directions due that thing known as life, it was decided to make this a best final effort before moving on.

After a meeting at the studio were many a happy recording session would happen, the plans for WAG were laid. That was two years ago. A tremendous amount of work was put into the project during that time. Arrangements totally re-thought. Entire performances re-cut. Bob and I having many a screaming match over the phone and in person. But when it all came together and the end in sight, the results seemed to make all the pain  worth it.

Then Bob got sick.

We knew that it was serious but never imagined where his illness would lead and how fast it would happen. When the end seemed imminent, Bob realized that WAG would be one of the things that he would leave behind for all the people he cared about. He asked Auria to let him hear the finished version of the CD. At the time Bob requested it, the project was about 80% complete with some of the most difficult work to be finished up.  To Auria's credit, he was able to conclude the last bits of tracking, mixes, and mastering very rapidly. We took it up to Bob who was in the final stages of his illness. I put the CD in the stereo and let it play. For forty minutes, he listened. I think he forgot he sick and felt like his old self again. It made him happy. There was no doubt that it was tight and contained his best performances to date, as it did for all of us. I was proud of him. I've known him for many years and during that time he has worked hard to refine his playing. I believe that he reached that goal. And it was captured on WAG.

He asked me to make sure that others got to hear this as well. Given the fact there is no longer a band to promote it, I had to consider my options carefully. We've been down the path of getting CDs manufactured and trying to sell them. Unless you have some distribution infrastructure, the penetration of the masses is minimal. Therefore, I present it here. At least for the time being anyway. It's free and available to anyone with  internet access. It is my hope that an opportunity presents itself to enable the manufacture of the disc at some point in the future.

Until that time; on behalf of Idealworld - from members past and present,  we hope that you enjoy our music. If you have any comments, please feel free to share them with me. My email address is dwalter33@comcast.net

These links are the actual layout that would be used to print the CD cover, liner notes, j-card, etc. They were created using Pagemaker, then converted to PDF. To view PDF files, you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader. The reader is a free download if you don't have it. Click here to get it. Bob created the artwork for the CD. His original concept was quite elaborate and went through a number of iterations. In the end, he opted for a more subtle design as shown here.

CD Purchase Info

The CD is available as a hard copy for $25 (money order only) which includes shipping & handling. The high price is due to the fact that copies are duped one at a time by yours truly. I will tell you the sound quality is better (the original sessions where done at high resolution 24bit digital) then MP3. I will also include some bonus tracks as well. If you are interested, please email me @ dwalter33@comcast.net with your contact info and I will send it out to you.
