Harper's Tale 3 - Friday, June 28, 2002, 8:41 PM
------------------------------------------------

Classroom
Glows bright the room immensely as they highlight the many hides hanging around the room. Tables and chairs are arranged neatly so that the instructors can teach from almost any place in the room, slate boards decorating the entire northern wall. Herbs and spices fill the room with a pleasing aroma, as shelves are covered with hides, scrolls, herbs, and all manners of teaching aids. A small hearth is here, mainly used for demonstrations although there is a pot of klah warming on it, brought over from the hold's kitchens by the apprentices daily.
You see Healer Interview Board, Healer Board, Narali's Herbal, Infirmary patient, Tray5, Tray2, Ripple, and Teobald here.
Graiham and Tiller are here.
Obvious exits:
Healer Great Hall     Records Room

Sudanna walks in from the Healer Great Hall.

Kiriya stealthily and gracefully stalks in from the Healer Great Hall.

Aramat wanders absent-mindly in from the Healer Great Hall.

For once, Graiham is not late to class. He's here early, as a matter of fact. He's got himself a seat in the back row an is presently, pleasantly eating an apple and reviewing some notes he's got scribbled in his notebook. What a good student, huh?

Aramat walks in, her books in arm. She grins at the rest of the healers in the room. "I'm not late am I?" She asked with a slightly nervous look in her smile. She looks to the back of the room and sees Graiham. Sliding towards him, she sets down her books on the desk infront. "Not here late I see?" She smiles and pokes him.

Jassay walks in from the Healer Great Hall.

Morallen strolls in with his usual scapegrace casualness, selecting a seat neither at the front 'nor the back, and droppping himself and his notebook into it, sprawling comfortably, and plopping sandal'd feet on the desk in front of him, wriggling his toes in a vaguely bored manner.

Graiham leans to one side, neatly avoiding Aramat's poke. He chews on his apple for a few crunchy seconds, then swallows emphatically and shakes his head. "Nope," he tells her simply, turning a page with a slightly sticky finger to get a nice, fresh sheet on which to begin his notes. Ta-dah.

A thump-thump-thumping sound heralds the entrance of Kiriya, whose feet flop on the ground in a relaxed gait to carry her into the classroom. The senior apprentice drops herself down a desk or two from Morallen, setting down her notebook and things to cross her arms and lift her head up. She wouldn't dare miss a class, even though she'd rather miss other things... *cough*chores*cough*

Jassay steps into the classroom, selecting a seat nearer the front, but not directly in the front. The girl looks about and offers a nod and smile to those gathered before digging out her notes and a writing implement.

Journeyman healer Nerak is seated near the front, hands crossed, patiently looking at the apprentices while waiting for class to start. Eee, bonehealing- one of her specialties! Taking a sip of her klah, she sets the mug down and glances for familiar faces, picking out a few.

A soft piterpat is heard as this young man strolls into the class. He takes a seat in the back of the class and drops a crammed unorganized mess of a note book on the desk. Pulling out a stylus he gently taps on the desk waiting for the class to begin.
[OOC:] Tiller will take credit for that..

Morallen sketches a lazily friendly little wave Kiriya-wards, before returning to staring at the front of the room and wriggling his toes again, running one hand through his tousle of hair and waiting for the class to get underway, studious in spute of his sprawled posture.

Sudanna bustles in, hides in one hand, klah mug in the other, and a skin slung acrossed her shoulder, full of cool water. As she places her various notes and accoutrements down, she looks at the class, wide smile across ehr face. "Right then, this is Bonehealing. If that's not what you want, please leave now. Once I start, even if it is the wrong class, you will not be allowed to leave except under an emergency situation. Everyone understand?"

Aramat nods her head and spreads out her notes and stylus infront of her. She sets all her attention towards the front of the class and conitrates on Danna.

"Aye, ma'am," is Morallen's tenor affirmative, even going so far as to pull his feet off the desk and make an attempt to straighten his posture. Yeah, so a Physical Therapy specialist shouldn't sprawl. Everyone's got bad habits.

Graiham looks up from where he's been tapping the end of his writing stick on the edge of his page, making a few harmless marks on the notebook. "Yes'm," he replies simply, taking one quick glance at the door before he commits himself to a nod. Right place, right time. Go Graiham!

"Yes, ma'am," replies Kiriya. Bonehealing was what she was waiting for anyway- can never have too many refresher courses, that's her philosophy. Opening her notebook to the Bonehealing pages, she gets hunched over them with her writing tool (horrors, bad posture!) and prepares to scribble- er, write.

Jassay listens intently to the sr. journeyman as she speaks before offering a nod. The girl then shifts in her seat slightly before turning her attention completly toward Sudanna.

Tiller opens his notebook to a fresh page, not that one was easy to find. He stops tapping his tiny chewed stylus and writes at the top of the page 'Bonehealing.' "Yes ma'am" he says in a dismissive tone then begins to pay attention.

Sudanna says, "Okay then. First, why do we worry so much about the proper healing of a bone?"

Morallen offers an answer to this one. But rather than waving a hand like an eager schoolboy, the young man just casually waggles a few fingers before speaking up. "Because an improperly healed bone can limit mobility, and will often have a tendancy to refracture?" he hazards?

Kiriya thinks for a second. "Because there could be major problems if it doesn't heal properly- the limb could really be deformed-looking and there could be pain and bad things like that," she replies, arching an eyebrow and smiling sheepishly. Okay, so she's not a model of eloquence, but she knows some things about bonehealing.

Graiham starts to open his mouth in reply, but apparently thinks the better of it. Nothing comes out from between his lips; instead, he just writes an abridged version of the question across his page, and lets other folks answer. Safer.

Aramat grins "Well, if you dont heal them right, the person could be crippled for life. They wouldn't have the abilty of moving around as easy and without pain." She nods her head. "There once was this man I met who had a mahor limp and walked really slow. And he was only about 30 turn, but he seemed like 80!" She winces at the thought.

Tiller ponders long and hard and comes up with a perfectly good answer.... But decides he'd rather just stay quiet and not attract unessasary attention. He leans back in his creeky chair and listens to the answers from the more studious members of class.

Nerak nods appraisingly at these responses, looking to Sudanna for her reply to each suggestion, while she sits quietly in the corner drinking her klah.

Jassay listens to all the answers, about to speak up before hers is stated. Instead her pen is poised above the paper before it moves down to neatly scrawl out 'Bonehealing' on the top with a squiggly line underneath.

Sudanna says, "Good, just about perfect. And oddly, Morallen, a healed bone, improperly or not is actually harder to break again. The bone mass created at the line of the fracture is most often thicker then the original. Now, there are always exceptions, especially with aunties and uncles, but in general, it's true." The teacher leaves her seat and moves around, setting herself on top of her desk instead of behind it. "So, what do bones do for us? And how many types are there?

Graiham writes most of this down at a rather furious pace, his hand-writing just about unintelligible now. There's some sort of continuity - a dash followed by some point or another - but it's not easy to figure out. "They - " He pauses, brows knit. "Well, they sure make it easier to move around, don't they?"

Aramat thinks for a moment. "Bones are what keeps us together. They hold our bodies up. Without 'em we'd just be a mass of skin and musules." She chews her stylos while thinking. "And there's probably hundreds of types of bones: every part has to so something different. From the skull to the leg bones." She scribbles somestuff down on her notes.

"Huh." notes Morallen to that, in a tone of academic interest, the factoid being scrawled down in his notes with an execrable hand. "They also offer some protection to internal organs," he tacks on. "As in your ribs, or your skull."

Tiller sways back and forth in his seat and looks up at the ceiling while he's thinking.. He has got half the question but is not sure about the other. "Well I know they keep our frame up so we're not a blob of skin, but I don't know how many kinds there are."

"Oh, that's a good one," says Graiham to himself after Morallen's interjection, hastily scribbling down what he said.

"Bones hold us up and support our bodily structure, right? And... I'm not sure how many types... although I'm pretty sure it's some small number like two or three," Kiriya replies with a thoughtful frown, looking up in thought.

Jassay takes down the notes in her tidy scrawl. She then looks upwards towards the educator, and listens to the class.

Sudanna says, "Good again and yes Kiri, there are actually only two major groups, simple and direct. Bones are divided into two major groups, long bones and short bones. Long bones are those bones in the upper and lower arms and upper and lower legs, whereas short bones are those of fingers, toes, etc. Breaks in either group, however, are generally diagnosed by the same symptoms but are treated slightly differently."

Graiham asks presently, "So what kind of bone would your head be?" He pauses, tapping his temple with the end of his writing stick. "I mean, your skull. It's not long, but it's not really short. It's more... round."

Morallen doesn't offer any Helpful Comments, this time, instead working at scribbling down more notes. One can devoutly hope that he, at least, is able to read his own writing.

Sudanna says, "Anyone here care to answert hat one?" Deep sapphire eyes twinkle as she searches the room. "Anyone care to at least try?"

Aramat bites her lip. "Yeah that makes more sense. A skull? I would think that would just eb an exception. Because none of the other bones are like that, so why make a whole new cadigory for them?" She thinks over all the bones she knows. "yeah, thats what I think" She guesses.

"It's... probably in neither group since it protects yer brain and really is neither long nor short. It's just... round." Kiriya shrugs, eyes going around the room. "I'm going to have to go with that guy on that one," she adds, not knowing Graiham's name.

Tiller thinks it's long... but is afraid to answer, but does any way.. "It's long caaus if you made it flat it would be longer that you lower arm?"

Jassay shrugs slightly. She has no idea. Jass does, however, continue to think on the subject, listening to all the other suggestions.

Morallen ponders thoughtfully. "Well, I'd prefer to stick it in a class by itself, but I think I'd go with short, if I had to classify it as one of the two. Ribs are short bones, and protect, your skull protects your brain. Also... doesn't the skull consist of more than one bone, that grow together?"

Aramat looks over to Morallen. "Only when your a adult. Don't baby's skulls grow together as they get older?" She looks back at Sudanna.

Sudanna says, "Actually, the skull is made up of small, hence short bones connected with a cartilige that hardens soon after birth. These bones could also be called 'plates', but fall under the short catagory. Any of you that have assisted in a delivery are well aware of the baby's 'soft spot, it's simple an area of plate that hasn't formed and hardened yet. Good question, Graiham." She beams at the newish apprentice as klah mug finds it's way to her mouth. "Good catch. Ara."

Graiham scratches under his hair with the end of his writing stick, no doubt looking for any missing "plates" in his own head. Ahem. He gives up after a few seconds, then writes something down hastily before things can get too much further, adding a quick, "Thanks."

And... once again, Morallen is scribbling down notes, even while trying hard not to look at all studious, notebook propped on a knee as he sprawls again.

Sudanna settles back and lowers her mug. "Now, I know you have all had FA1, tell me.. what are the two types of broken bones?"
Jassay goes home.

Aramat ponders the question, as she actually /hans't/ had FA1 and takes a guess. "A full break and a...fracture?" She shrugs at her answer.

"Ooooo. Compound and simple?" Kiriya knows some bonehealing, yeap. So she throws out her answer lightning-quick and waits.

Morallen had FA1, but it was a while ago. So therefore the oldest of the apprentices takes a moment to think, before offering a tentative "Compound and simple fractures? As in, the bone is poking out of the skin, or it isn't?"

Tiller pipes up "Aren't they compound and hairline right?" He'll shut up now and stay quiet for a while.. He thinks he has it but isn't sure if the terms are correct. "Yeah I should know but I forgot.." He shrugs, it happens.

Graiham flips through the pages of his notebook at a frenetic pace, looking, looking, looking. "Simple and..." He's still looking.
Graiham says abruptly - he must've found it - "Complex!" Triumph.

Aramat shrugs as everyone's answer is the same..and different than hers. She shrugs and scribbles the new info inot her notes.

Sudanna nods a bit at all the answers and shakes her head at Graiham latent addition. "They are refered to as 'simple', meaning the break is in the bone, but not the skin and 'compound', as in the bone actually breaks through the skin. So, how do you diagnose a simple fracture? And yes, any break is a fracture."

Graiham frowns, looking over his notes with a rather tart frown. "But Fareia and Jassay said..." He looks again, then shrugs. "Well, that's what they told us. It's compound instead of complex?" He crosses out his old notes and ammends them presently.

Aramat thinks simple. "Well, you would see that the arm is at a strange angle. They also would be in quite the amount of pain." She thinks again. "The bone would be broken, so (which you abiously wouldn't) if you moved it, it would feel like a joint."

Morallen chews thoughtfully on a lower lip. "Erm... odd angle of the limb, if it's a fracture in one of the long bones? And of course the patient would be in a lot of discomfort. You could also palpate the area, right?" Morallen's not quite sure, but is doing a fine job of glancing over at the notes of the bookish girl in front of him.

Tiller obviously doesn't know so he'll just stay quiet.. He slouches into his chair and scribbles down what the other students have said.

Kiriya hmms. "Uh... it could be all swollen, and the patient could be in shock," she adds after hearing the other answers, shifting her position in her chair. Achy bums don't help learning, nope.

Sudanna says, "There are a few simple ways, an odd angle would be a definite clue, but some breaks don't skew the limb. Symptoms usually include point tenderness, swelling around the area of the break, possible deformity, and the inability to move the limb without extreme pain."

"Odd angle... Point tenderness... Swelling... Mhmmm..." Someone's taking notes. Someone named Morallen. Someone who apparently isn't terribly used to writing, and is therefore talking quietly to themself.

Graiham checks off a few things he has written in his notes already, thus tidily avoiding the necessity to re-write it all. Man, he's efficient. "Also, bruising?" he adds, a guess in his tone.

Tiller nods and scribles down the answer to the question, then sits up attentive waiting for another.. he turns towards the studious Graiham then back to his notes where he writes in 'bruising then turns back up facing the teacher.

Aramat thinks for a sec. "But not right away. Doesn't it take a while for brusing to start?" She asks. Hates to make people wrong, but wondeing all the same.

Sudanna says, "Bruising may or may not occur. It's not a definite sign for a break. Certainly few breaks of any kind avoid bruising, but we don't look for that as a sign of a break."

Graiham nods over his notes, penning things in the margins and generally making an illegible mess out of his pre-existing First Aid text. (No one ask to borrow his notebook, okay? Okay.)

Aramat grins happly as Danna nods to her telling her that she's right. Good. She smiles happyly to herself. Going better than some classes. Ara looks back, waitng for the nest question.

Morallen gives a friendly smirk in Aramat's direction, along with a murmured "Nicely done, kiddo." as he returns to leaning back in his seat and waiting for the topics to continue. And hopefully he won't have numbweed gobbed on his hand this class.

Sudanna crosses her legs and ruffling through her notes.. "Okay, now let's set aside the concept of compound breaks for the moment and consider the treatment of a simple fracture. In FA1 you are taught how to splint a break well enough to get to a healer in the infirmary. Well, now you /are/ that healer. What do you do?" Studies each student for a good second, waiting to see what the suggestions might be.

Aramat grins and remembers days on the good 'ol farm. "Well, one of the workers broke his leg in the feilds once. I remeber my father craed for him, as there wasn't a healer in days. He put numbweed on it first. Then he wrapped in in a splint to be carried back to the house." She stops to think again.

Graiham mumbles something unintelligible, turning back to a clean page so that the rustling hides whatever bits of his remark might get farther than his own desk. "First, I'd probably want to get the patient some numbweed. Broken bones _smart_!" He nods emphatically over that, then adds frankly, "After that, I have no idea." He's still new.

Tiller is tired of having no clue about any of these questions, not that he can help it... I mean isn't that why he's here to learn the answer... Well he certainly hopes so, seeing as though people will be entrusting their lives in his hand... (scary thought isn't it.)

Morallen taps his quill on the edge of his notebook, and then leans forward to brush the feather against the neck of the studious girl in front of him, settling back and looking innocent as she whirls to glare at him. "Well first off," he notes. "You'd want to give them something to control the pain. Numbweed for the immediate area, along with some form of sedative tea. You'd then want to palpate and check the positioning of the bone before you make any move to realign it."

Graiham asks abruptly, "Palpate?"

Aramat shrugs. "The after that...I dont know. I didn't really pay attention." She grins and sribbles and listens :D

"Use your hands to feel the bone underneath the skin and muscle," elaborates Rallen to Graiham.

"Make the patient comfortable and then look for breakage," Kiriya pipes up amidst all the answers being thrown at Sudanna.

Sudanna says, "To treat a plain break, the first thing that needs to be done is to make sure the bone is straight, end to end, or the bone will heal crookedly and cause more problems in the future. To do this, be sure the area around where the break is located is thoroughly lathered with numbweed to ease as much discomfort as possible." She pauses and then adds, distaste evident in her voice. "Some healers would recommend fellis, but I am of the belief that numbweed, well saturated into the area will be enough. Then comes the hard part." She will pause and let the appies catch up. let me know when you are ready."

It's becoming redundant to say that Graiham writes something down. Suffice it to say, he pretty much writes constantly through this lesson. "Thanks," he says to Morallen, finally able to look up to Sudanna after a few moments. "Ready." Whew.

Aramat looks up after copying the notes. "Hmm...got it"

Morallen is still writing happily, although he's pausing more and more often to shake out his hand and wrist. Heaven help him when it comes time to actually put together something big like a treatise or a project. Hmm... perhaps he can hire a Harper.

Sudanna watches and when all the hands are stilled, she continues. "I will assume that your patient is on one of the higher examining tables, so now to determine if the break is straight, run a hand gently over the area. Assuming that it is not, place one hand directly over the break and hold while gently, yet firmly pulling the limb with your free hand toward the lower end of thetable until the break is felt to be straight."

Graiham cringes. Enough said.
Aramat ucks.
Tiller doesn't care..
Aramat looks across to see Till's saddened look. She grins mischevioiusly.

The corner of Morallen's mouth twitches in visceral sympathy, but, Healer that he is, there's also a little bit of fascination with the procedure lurking in hazel eyes. "So, how much strength does that generally require?"

Tiller as long as the patient lives he's cool. "Yeah I'd be sure to do that fast for their sake."

"Wouldn't it be, uhm, easier for the patient if they were unconscious during this part?" asks Graiham, his brows knit together as he no doubt plays with a mental tableau. Ow. And an extra ow just to keep the first one company.

Sudanna says, "You have to have some power, Rallen, it's true. But actually, it's more leverage and manuevering then direct strength." She clears her throat and moves onward.."Once sure the bone is straight, place two, long sticks, one on either side of the limb sandwiching the break, and wrap it securely with clean cloths to form a splint. A layer of cloths soaked in numbweed may also be wrapped around the limb first, to help with long term pain control." Another pause and water skin is prevailed upon to dampen parched throat. "Remember, numbweed is the patiant's friend in this case. You really cannot use too much to make them comfortable. And once they are splinted and wrapped, offer willowssalic and comfrey. Comfrey is good for internal bone health.""

Morallen nods, and scribbles that fact down too. "So, ah, just how deep can we get numbweed to penetrate?" he inquires. "I mean, if you were working on some hugely obese patient, would you be able to get it down to the level of the bone?" This randome question brought to you by: Rallen!

A confused looks comes over Ara's face. "Is comfrey a herb or human interaction?" She thinks it's a herb, but just makes sure.

Tiller doesn't feel like writing again.. he's perfectly content wirth rely on a memory that's shaky at best. He turns to Ara "It's an herb sweety.

Aramat thinks "Being around the person and comforting would also be a good idea." GO figure. Stupid ting to say.

Sudanna says, "Interesting question Morallen. I have yet to find a patient that doesn't get some relief from the weed. But," And she uses the 'but' like a weapon.."if absolutely necessary, there is always a master's decision to use fellis." Again, she doesn't approve of that at all unless the break is incredibly severe. "Much the same procedure for straightening a bone in a plain break is used for securing a compound break. Be sure the wound where the bone is protruding has been thoroughly washed with redwort to lessen the chance of infection, then follow the steps given above for straightening and putting the bone back in place. "

Aramat shudders. Putting a comoud break back into the body? Uggg!

"And it'll heal just fine?" muses Graiham, sounding kind of bemused about the whole thing. He draws a line and an arrow from one part of his notes to the other, adding 'Compound Break' in big letters, and then scribbling some other stuff. It works.

Tiller just sits in his desk about to fall over from exhaustion.. No more late nights at the mug for him... pops back into reality and trys to focus on the teacher.

Morallen nods, and gives a little grin. He could probably think up other wierd questions, given time. But he behaves himself, and scrawls more notes. "Treating the wound left behind..." he muses. "If it's stitchable, should we try to stitch it, or would that interfere with drainage or something?"

Sudanna says, "Add pressure to the exposed bone to slip it back inside the skin. Then, more redwort, always more redwort, after the patient is well numbed. For the first 24 hours, I recommend packing the wound caused by the break with mosstea and wrapping the limb as described before, splints wnd bandages. After that 24 hours, as long as no infection is visible, carefully stitch the wound and re-splint and bandage."

Graiham naturally writes that down in his hasty way.

Tiller yawns... and hopes this is about finished. "Ok I got it."

Aramat nods and scribbles furiously down.

Morallen nods, and furrows his brow slightly. "Twenty-four hours... Ah, begging your pardon, ma'am, but could you explain how we're to keep the wound fresh enough for stitching, for 24 hours? I don't think I managed to make the class where that was probably taught," he offers sheepishly.

Sudanna says, "After the limb is bound, cold packs can be settled on it for the swelling. And you will want to advise the patinet to keep the damaged area propped up, higher then the heasrt. Any break will take between 8-12 sevendays to heal.. usually if it's a limb that takes weight, it takes the longer time. Even when the bone has healed, the muscles around it are weak and used to being used. At this time I recommend a visit with a physical therapist for treatment and exercises to slowly rebuild the muscles so further damage is avoided."

Sudanna says, "That's what the mosstea is for Morallen.""

Sudanna stands and stretches, rolling her head to release the built-up tensions of the day. "Okay, Tiller.. what are the two different breaks called?"

Tiller sheepishly answers .. "Umm simple and compound?"

Morallen, sensing he's about to be severely maimed by his fellow students if he doesn't clam up, just smiles, nods, and takes notes.

Sudanna says, "Morallen.. what do you pack a compound break's wound with, initially?"

"Mosstea," replies Morallen with a bright attempt at a schoolboy smile. Which doesn't quite work, but it's an attempt?

Sudanna says, "Excellent.. Ara, what's the first step to treating a compound break?"

Aramat bites her lip for a moment. "Well, you want to put numbweed on it, and then splint the bone? But before that, you push the bone back into place." She smiles nervously.

Sudanna says, "Close, but after the numbweed, you /must/ redwort it, we can't take any chances for infection." her head swivels, ohh last appy, "And Graiham, what symptoms would you look for to diagnose a broken bone?"

Aramat remembers redwort and writes it down quickly.

Graiham says off the top of his head, "Not brusing." He flips a page (this is why he's always taking those copious notes), and adds, "Point tenderness, swelling, possible deformity, and extreme pain."
bruising

Sudanna says, "Well done, all of you. remeber, you still must not treat a broken bone, that is for a jman or above to deal with." She pauses, expression moving from stern glare to soft smile. "But, if you all keep up the studies, each of you will be there soon enough. I thank you for your attention. Class is dismissed."

Tiller goes home.

Aramat yeahs and scrambles her books and notes back into her bag. Whew. Good class. She runs away, but not before snugging danna and telling her she is a good teach *sucking up* ;)
Aramat wanders absent-mindly to the Healer Great Hall.

Morallen gives a nod, and collects his notebook and quill, dropping them haphazardly in his satchel, and preparing to lollop away before a thought dawns on him. "Oh, ah, Senior Journeywoman Sudanna, ma'am, do you have a moment?"

Graiham gets up, top speed, saying over his shoulder, "Good class. Thanks." Where he has to be in such a hurry is anyone's guess, but he leaves without a second glance.

Kiriya goes home.

Graiham strolls to the Healer Great Hall.

Sudanna turns from her hide pile and nods, "Certainly. What can I do for you, Morallen?" Notew she has given up on telkling him to lose the title, that's Jathen's thing, not hers. Oh, Sr. Jman Jathen.

Morallen will lose the title when he's not being formal. Which is the majority of the time, actually. But for now, the beach bum of a senior apprentice is attempting to behave. "Er yes. Ah, I was wondering, with part of your specialty being in bonehealing and all, and my own specialty being Physical Therapy, and Ista not having any ranking specialists it that. Erm, not that there's anything /wrong/ with that," he assures, quite well aware that he's making a hash of formality. "Ah, what I mean to ask is... Would you be my mentor?"

Sudanna blinks.. several times, actually. And then, she pauses and actually thinks.. "Yes, Morallen I would be pleased to be your mentor. But.." Ah Danna's famous 'Buts'.. "I may be a bit stricter then otherwise as your mentor. I tend to demand more from my mentees. However.." Now that's a new one, but her eyes twinkle at this pause.."I won't require you attend any extra deliveries with me. Deal?" Hand is offered as she finishes.

Morallen's face settles into something oddly solemn and intent as the 'But' is delivered, looking eerily like his younger sister before the smirk of a grin returns, and he takes the offered hand in a firm clasp. "Deal! Thank you, Danna. And I'll certainly try to do you proud." he assures, back up to Rallen Speed again as he swings his satchel. "Erm... I've got duty in the Infirmary in a half-hour, so I really need to get something to eat, but thanks. For the class, and for taking me on." And then he's padding off towards the door, sandals slapping on the stone.

Sudanna waves and smiles, feeling very satisfied with how that went. She may not have many mentees, but she has the cream of the crop, in her opinion. "Go, eat.. and I'll see you later then." A wave as he heads out to the dining hall.
