Harper's Tale - Friday, February 08, 2002, Classroom Kylianna is evil. Really. Ignore the fact that the woman is beaming brightly, eyes alight with all the happy pleasure of the world. Of course, Connie's plopped on her shoulder, a coiled gold ball of hissing and glowering. "Hey! Welcome! Hi!" And good morning to you all! Sit down! Get ready to sufffferrrrrrr. Fareia wanders into the classroom, rather sulky today. Why? 'Cause she felt like being sulky, that's why. Bag is tossed over by Miralwyn as she sits down. "Hey, Mira," she mutters, digging out her notebook and such. Aerrin is quite happy, as well. Perhaps it's that she's teaching with Kylianna - united again! Right. The Master is sitting atop the desk in the front, legs dangling over the edge and hands planted on the desk on either side of her. Grinning. She, too, has a coil of gold about her shoulder.. and this one hisses, too. Aerrin is loved.. apprentices are dubious. Must've gotten it from her mum. Leywen slips into a chair somewhere between the front and the middle. Digging her notebook out of the pack she's carrying, she opens it to a clean page, then sits back to listen. And only listen. No speaking out of turn today, as she had certainly noticed the presence of a certain Master. Katrine walks quietly into the class room. She just knows she let her notebook in here somewhere. Blink. blink. Oh there's people here. Sliding quietly into a seat near the back. Miralwyn offers Fareia an amused smile, murmuring that "Someone left a rotten egg in your clothespress this morning...?" beforeonce again becoming the Good Little Apprentice, and facing the front, looking attentive. No, you may not smack her. Kylianna looms over towards Aerrin. Loomloomloom. "Can we eat them?" Kyli whispers, before slinking around once more, eyeing them with the same sunny smirk. "I hope you all know why you're here?" To be Kyli's slave, that's why. Ha. Fareia eyes Miralwyn, then sticks her tongue out,"Neh," is her only comment, before glancing up towards the front and rolling her eyes at the other apprentices perkiness, slouching and staying her sulky slouchy little apprentice. Leywen nods silently, eyes glancing over at Aerrin for a moment, then back at Kylianna. Well, she hadn't come all the way down from the Reaches for nothing. Even if she /had/ gotten a ride from H'iss (though that was one rider she'd rather avoid). Of course, there was also the matter of /more/ supplies for the infirmary back there. Aerrin rolls her eyes at a pair of the apprentices (you know who you are) before sliding forward a bit and clearing her throat. "So. Herbalry. Who knows something about it and can tell me why /this/ is perhaps the most important class you'll take at the Hall?" Not full of her craft at /all/, is she? Miralwyn manages to look positively innocent. Whhhaaat? She raises a hand slightly, and, masking her distaste for the subject, offers that "Without herbalry, we'd not have any knowledge of how to use herbs to treat things, or even if we did, we'd not know how to prepare them." Fine. Let someone /else/ prepare the herbs. Aerrin turns her head toward Miralwyn, a hand raised to waggle at her as the gold round her neck hisses slowly. "That's what we /learn/ in herbalry, but you haven't told me why it's so important to the healercraft! Come on, now. Think, apprentices!" Wow.. she /is/ energetic today. Maybe Kurrin slept all night, finally. "Because you said so, Master Aerrin!" Kylianna offers a chipper little salute, plopping her plump rump down on a desk as she beams. She's here to help, really. And heckle. A little. But Aerrin will still love her, right? Fareia just beams at Aerrin as best she can while still sulking. "And you can do a great many things with herbs, too." Darn, Kyli took her other answer. 'Cause you said so' always works. Leywen bites her lower lip, her eyes constantly moving from one to the other, hoping that /any/ of the other apprentices will answer this one. This was one thing she seems to have missed reading up on while spending her time looking at dragons up at the Weyr. "Um..." she says, furrowing her brow, "because they can heal stuff?" Miralwyn doesn't /want/ to think about Herbalry. Wyn /destests/ Herbalry. Wyn would rather be reading some wonderful scroll on paranoid psychosis. Wyn... raises her hand again, and tries to give a better answer. "Herbalry is imprtant because almost everything we do involves herbs. From numbweed and redwort to things like fellis. They're all herbs." Aerrin heaves an exagerated sigh and slides off the desk, pacing to one side of the classroom. "/Yes/! As silly as it may sound," the Master intones, stopping near Leywen and poking a finger at her. "That's the closest any of you have come.. how else do we heal, if not with herbs? How would we clean a wound, stop nausea, help someone sleep, heal a burn? All of these things are done with herbs! Think, for a moment, about trying to heal /anything/ without herbs. It's nearly impossibly. Even a broken bone.. we can set it, but without herbs to keep away infection or numb pain, it would be a difficult, if not impossable process." Her rant takes her pacing again, this time toward Miralwyn, and the healer nods quite firmly. "Precisely. Absolutely every section of this craft uses herbalry - you will not find a single one that doesn't touch on herbs in some way. This means that you should /pay/ attention when they are discussed... the general healer may not need to know what chamomile looks like or how to prepare a complicated infusion, but they /should/ know what basic herbs do, how to prepare and use them, and how to find information if they need further help." That said, she finally returns to the desk, hops atop it, and drags in a deep breath. Whew. Fareia takes all this down in her notebook, scribbling as fast as she can and pausing only once to mutter to the apprentices around her,"Yeah, and they make some nice smelling salves to." And come in handy for presents, like Farie's impulsive herbal gift-giving rampage when she was at the weyr. "I still think /I/ was more correct." Snork. But Kylianna will sulk in peace on that issue. The healer begins to swing her legs, looking more like a demented schoolgirl than a stately woman. "Do any of you know anything about herbs already? Anything at all? Any little useful tidbits or utterly inncorrect facts to share with the class?" Hmmmmmmmmm? Miralwyn is listening. Really she is. She's even taking down notes, see? Good Little Apprentice and all. Oooh, a random fact? Wyn has one. "I believe Fellis is poisonous to dragons...?" recounts the ex-weyrbrat. Leywen nods again, her eyes focusing for a moment on Aerrin's finger before the Master moves away. Suddenly realizing she's been holding her breath she lets it out in an explosive sigh, grinning slightly at the fact that she'd gotten the answer partly right. At Kylianna's question she shakes her head slightly, but then pipes up anyway, "all I know is; it's no fun cooking numbweed...." Fareia hms quietly, tapping her stylus. "Chamomile is soothing. And rosemary is energizing. So's peppermint..." Okay, that was good but she ruins it with,"And they make really nice salves." Aerrin simply sits, watching, legs dangling over the desk. Let her Lovely Assistant Kyli do all the work. Yup! Fareia adds to that as she remembers something,"And rosewater and hamemelis mixed together make your skin really soft." "Mmmm. Chamomile..." Kylianna's eyes go unfocused for a minute, but she promptly escapes her ditzing and returns with a bright, cheery nod. "Aye. Quite right. And cooking numbweed is rather horrible. Why we make you do it. Constantly." Kyli likes to watch her fellow appies suffferrrr. "And aye," Miralwyn gets a nod, too. "Very much is. Why you can't go near fellis til you're a master." Or else suffferrrrr. "Good!" She claps her hands together, oh-so-happy. "You know quite a bit! Almost. But yes. Soon the nuggets of knowledge shall be shoved through your ignorance." Whee. What fun! "That, and the fact that measuring it wrong could kill your patient," Aerrin adds with a dry smile tossed toward Kylianna. "Now. Who can tell me some ways in which herbs are prepared? Anyone know some, and what they are?" Leywen makes a few notes while listening to other suggestions on what's good an bad about herbs and what they might do to you. Looking up at Aerrin's question, the apprentice once again forgets about raising her hand before answering, but simply blurts out; "some of 'em are dried and crushed, right?" Miralwyn arches an eyebrow at the 'shoved through your ignorance' part, leaning towards Fareia, and murmuring that "That sounds rather painful... Where /is/ your 'ignorance' anyways?" before once again retreating to her attentive pose. She rattles off a list. "An infusion, an electuary, a tea, a syrup... Pills and injections?" If she knows types, perhaps she can dodge giving preparations? Fareia knows her herbs....sort of, which is a good thing since she's sulky today for a reason unknown. After hanging around Kerali and her herbal obsession, you have to pick up something. She snorts quietly at Wyn's comment then opens her mouth to answer "They can be made into te- yeah," before she's cut off by the GoodLittleAppy and her list. "Bake them into cookies." Kylianna gives a sage little nod, eyelids lowering to give her a rather dreamy expression. Maybe the traveling up from Paradise has been too much for her. Or maybe she's getting senile in her old age. "Or infusions, yeaaaaah." She likes her own ideas, personally. It's definitely the lack of sleep talking. Fortunately for Leywen, they aren't raising their hands this class.. and Aerrin is in a good, if rather hyper, mood. She nods toward the apprentice, hand raising to point at whoever she's addressing. "Right.. that's a first step, at least. Never the last. But a great many herbs are dried and crushed before we use them. Ah, very good, Miralwyn! Infusions, syrups, pills.. good answers, all." She grins, shooting a glance sideways toward Kylianna as her hand drops back to her lap. "You mention infusions.. who can tell me what an infusion is, or how you'd make it?" "Infusion, syrups, pills...." Leywen mutters as she scripples the words in her notebook. Cupping her head with a hand as she writes, the apprentice's long braids falls down in front of her eyes only to be batted away constantly. "Where'd I put that ribbon...?" Mumbling, she throws down her pencil and goes about digging through her pack. Oh. Dang. Downside of being a Good Little Apprentice is being called on by the master. Miralwyn's face flickers slightly into a wince from its normal serenity. Then, gamely, she offers that "You... boil the herbs in water to whatever strength you need? Or steep them, or something. Stronger than a tea, usually." Fareia ums as she writes. "Infusions...You infuse them?" That's Farie's guess, and a chuckle as she makes a small list of the ways to use herbs. Aerrin nods slowly. "Very good... you do, indeed, steep the herbs.. which does involve boiling water and is so like a tea that most of what people refer to as 'tea' - when it comes from us - is in fact an infusion. Anyone know what part of the plant is typically used in an infusion, or what some herbs that are commonly used in infusions are?" Fareia flicks a finger up in the air, almost like a half-raised hand out of habit. "Um...Hops are infused...and they're...calming?" "Aha!" Leywen exclaims, coming out of her pack with a long green ribbon between her fingers. Looking up at Aerrin with an expression of confusion in her eyes, she slowly shakes her head, while gathering her hair in the back and tying the ribbon around it. Aerrin's eyes settle on Leywen for a moment, and a sigh rises from the Master. "Leywen. Please tell me that you find herbs important enough to forgo attempting to do your hair and pay a /bit/ of attention to information that may one day save lives?" "Willowsalic." responds Miralwyn with confidence. This one she knows. "And it's the bark, I believe." A pat to her copy of Narali's Herbal, lurking quiescent in her satchel. She subsides at the scolding from Aerrin, even though she isn't the target. "Ooooooooh," Kylianna choruses with a pair of tow-headed apprentice boys. Leywen's in /trouble/. Ha. That's what she'll get for not paying attention. "You can have her do a report," Ky chirps up, ever the Good Little Senior Appy. Fareia is in a rebellious mood today, and she'll stand up for hair. "It's better though that she keeps her hair back, rather than misinterpreting or miswriting information caused by hair in her face..." With hip-length hair, Farie's learned to secure her hair well before class. Taking her hands away from her hair, Leywen unfortunately also unties the ribbon and her hair falls around her face again as she looks up at Aerrin. "Yes... Ma'am," she quickly says, nodding furiously. "Infusion... Boiling herbs in water and such." That /was/ what had been the topic, right? "Oooooh." And Kyli's true colors come out as she slinks towards Master Aerrin, ocean-blue eyes wide. "They're being /rude/, Master Aerrin." Nasssty apprentices. We don't likes them, no we's don't. And looking rather like a flying monkey, the senior appy hunches slightly, bobbing her head. "It's horrible, simply horrible. They have no love of infusions." Aerrin stands suddenly, eyes flashing something that's not amusement now as she looks at Fareia cooly. "I do believe that /I/ was speaking to Apprentice Leywen.. and I also think that perhaps you need to understand this issue a bit more clearly. The two of you..." And now Aerrin glances back at Leywen, who has not worked herself into the healer's good graces by muttering about something that was the topic of conversation two questions ago. "Will work together. Yes, I'm aware of the distance issue. Use a 'lizard. Send messages. I don't care. But I will require a speech to be given, together, on the issue of why it is important to arrive at class prepared and why it is important to pay attention to what is being said." Aerrin turns, moving around the desk to sit at the chair behind it. "We'll hear it next sevenday. Now. Infusions. An important thing to remember is that different parts of herbs are used for different purposes. Most infusions are made from the leaves of flowers of an herb - willowsalic is more properly called a decotion, which is very similar to an infusion - also a tea - but stronger. Those are made using the stem, roots, bark, or even tougher leaves of a plant, and are made by adding a teaspoonful of herb to a cup and a half of water, and simmering it all together until about a third of the water is gone." If Kyli's the flying monkey, does that mean Aerrin's the wicked witch? Fareia gapes openmouthed at Aerrin. "Bu- I.. Uh fine." She was prepared though! And she was paying attention! She even payed attention to how Aerrin 'spoke to' Leywen, which is why she commented. Sulky Farie slouches even more. Good, at least she has a reason to sulk, now. Leywen's narrowed eyes shoot a couple of arrows at Kylianna before quickly returning her attention to Master Aerrin again. Nodding, she glances Fareia, giving the girl a crooked smile. "Yes, Master Aerrin," she simple says, then looks down at her notebook to take down more important information about herbs. Miralwyn subsides into a well behaved silence and meekness. Usually, this means she's plotting elaborate revenge. However, Aerrin being a Master and somewhat un-revengable, this more likely means that she's laughing at the two victims of Pern Trek: The Wrath Of Aerrin. Of course, no outward sign is given, as she simply writes down notes. But is that an unholy twinkle in grey eyes? Or maybe Kylianna's Toto to Aer's Dorothy. The healer gives a little beam as the punishment is dished out. Almost a gleeful beam. "Very wise, Master." Heehee. Heeheeheehee. A furry little nose pokes out of the pocket of Kyli's skirt. A ferret? Shhh. Don't tell Aerrin. "Okay! Now! Who here knows how to apply herbs externally? 'Cause not all herbs should be chugged, y'know." Leywen glances at Aerrin, then decides to actually raise her hand before starting to speak, though not exactly waiting for permission. "Well, there's numbweed, of course... " Aerrin sees no ferret, thankfully. Only the apprentices, who are still watched carefully in case they decide to glare at her or stick a tongue out - that way Aer can get the infirmary scrubbed, too. Fareia is still sulking, but she answers. "You can grind the herbs and mix 'em into salves and apply them." "And salves for itches and rashes and things..." adds Miralwyn onto Leywen's train of thought, snapping her fingers. "Savles. Yes, that's it." What Fareia said. Fareia adds for the benefit of everyone who doesn't take care of their skin as well as Farie does hers. "And if you mix the right ones up and put them on your face for a little while and then wash 'em off it makes your skin really smooth an' clear an' stuff." Expect Farie to say something like that. "But you didn't say what numbweed /is/." Kylianna smirks at Leywen, innocent enthusiasm still rising. Be warned. The furry little nose pops back into the pocket. For now. "Yes! Salves! Salves are lovely, aren't they? Lotions, too. But the most common way is the poultice. Anyone know what that is, or will you all grossly disappoint me?" Beam. Fareia would love to grossly dissappoint right now, but that's okay. Beware the light! It's a Poultice Geist! Heh. "Just putting herbs on your skin, right? Without really doin' anything to them accept...mm...crushing them? So if I decided to dump a barrel of crushed chamomile on...say....Miralwyn here, would it be considered a poultice?" Is Farie being mischevious today? Oh yes, she is. And that's a nice prank idea. Dump crushed herbs on someone and claim that you were trying to learn about poultices when questioned by a master. "But everybody knows...." Cutting herself off suddenly Leywen, bites her lip again, nodding. "Right.. Numbweed is to.. Well, numb bruised or injured areas," she explains, her eyes all the time darting between Kylianna, Fareia, Miralwyn and Aerrin. "Too lessen pain, y'know?" Not doing too good is she? "If you dumped crushed chamomile on me, I would have to hurt you." replies Wyn dryly. "And a poultice... is a cloth soaked in an infusion of herbs, and bound to the site needing treatment?" "Not /exactly/." Kylianna rolls her eyes. Sigh. Apprentices. Whenever will they learn to be intelligent like her and Aerrin? Such is life. "Poultices aren't /just/ crushed herbs. They're warm, /moist/ crushed herbs. If you dumped a bunch of chamomile on Miralwyn, you'd just be a mean apprentice. 'Cause you'd be wasting herbs. Yes." Anyway. "It's applied directly on the skin. If they're really strong herbs or the patient has sensitive skin, you'd put them between two moist layers of cloth. I don't suppose any of you know what part of the herbs are most commonly used for this?" Probably not. Sigh. Miralwyn shrugs, interest in the class reaching an all time low, although she continues to make notes about things said. And scribble the odd limerick in the margins to taunt Alain with later. "The leaves...?" she guesses. "No," Leywen mumbles as she twirls her pencil between thumb and forefinger as she looks up at Kylianna, then down at her notebook again. Better take down the notes about poultices, though. 'Warm, moist crushed herbs. Sometimes used between layers of moist cloth.' There. Isn't she a good appy now? Sitting quietly and taking down precise notes. Fareia lets a coy smile slide onto her face,"'Least Miralwyn'd smell good if we dumped camomile on her," that is said more quietly though, mostly to miral and the other apprentices with a wink. "The flower of the plant, if it has a flowery part?" Aerrin isn't.. /smirking/, is she? Of course not.. not simply because this is /her/ subject, and she enjoys watching apprentices fumble through it. Kylianna must be a bad influence. Kylianna isn't a bad influence. She is all perfection and sweetness and light. Riiiiiiiiight. And dragons come in purple. "Yay!" Fareia gets the brightest of beams, the most loving of glances. That one's good. Yes. Miralwyn gets an equal beam, if a little suspicious. That one might be cheating. "Yes. The flowers and the leaves are the parts you'd want to use." Aerrin stirs into life, legs again swaying as she beams for a moment at the apprentices. Her turn.. aren't you glad? "Now. Who can tell me some common herbs?" 'Flowers and leaves' go into Leywen's notebooks as she seems content to just listen at this point. Having finished printing the words, her pencil doesn't stop, however, as the apprentice makes a little drawing of a flower in the margin. Fareia pushes aside her sulkiness momentarily to beam back at Kyli. *cough*Suckup*cough* Then it's back to sulkiness. "Camomile, rosemary, peppermint, lavendar, sage, rose...." Notice how she names all the nicely smelling herbs that tend to affect people in some way. Well, she did study those for a while. Miralwyn, cheating? Perish the thought! She's simply one of those horrible creatures that /studies/. Scary thought, hmm. Like that girl in the library, back in high school. Got all her reading done, three classes in advance, and made you want to smack her? That's Miralwyn. "Meadowsweet, comfrey, willowsalic and fellis?" she ticks off, leaving the others to name more as she subsides into a little huddle of attentiveness. Printing down the names mentioned by the other apprentices, Leywen herself doesn't add to the brilliance. Maybe she should just go home and study this subject a little harder and try to memorize some of those herbs. And what they're good for. Aerrin nods as each herb is listed. "Chamomile, peppermint.. meadowsweet, comfrey, willowsalic, fellis..." Her head bobs in time to the list as she repeats (obviously) those that she plans to discuss. "What about redwort?" she questions, leaning forward a bit. "Anyone know what we use that for?" "Disinfection," intones Miralwyn, rolling the syllables over her tongue. "Of wounds. And floors. And bedpans." "And hands," Aerrin adds with a slow grin. "Very, very
important. Does anyone know what else can be used to disinfect, if you don't
have redwort?" Fareia continues to write these things down, by the way, slowly shaking her head at Aerrin's question. No idea what else can be used. Good old soap and water? Finishing up yet another drawing of a flower, Leywen looks up at the mentioning of redwort. "Redwort....?" she notes, almost in a whisper, glancing around the classroom at the other apprentices. "And it stains your hands," she continues adding to Miralwyn's statement, then looks up at the Master at her question, "boiling water? For instruments, anyway." Wouldn't wanna dip your hands in boiling water, would you now? Aerrin nods quickly. "Boiling water, yup. Very good answer. Another common one is alcohol... of any sort. In an emergency, it can be used to clean things. Now. What about willowsalic? It's been mentioned already.. what is it commonly used for?" Fareia flicks her finger up again, her form of being acknowledged without exactly raising her hand,"Uh...Painkiller?" Leywen grins, her eyes glittering with pride that she got one right and almost blurts out another silly question, though holds her tongue on that one. 'Willowsalic' she scribbles down, and leans back to wait for the answer which she herself doesn't know. "And... helping to ease inflammation...?" tacks on Miralwyn belatedly, after some long pondering. "And can't it break fever, too?" More industrious scribbling. Aerrin bobs her head, hands tapping absently against her legs. "Yup, painkiller... and also to elp reduce fevers. Does anyone know what /else/ we commonly use to control pain and reduce fevers?" Leywen frowns, trying to come up with another cure for reducing fever. Coming up blank, the apprentice shakes her head, her braids dancing around her shoulders. This is definately not her best subject. Miralwyn nibbles at her lower lip. "Ahhh... meadowsweet?" she tosses out a few likely candidates, more to actually say something and resist the temptation of diving for her books. Kylianna lounges. The little ferret nose is once more poking out of the quiet, and a muffled squeak is heard from it, thankfully covered by the pair of tow-headed apprentices who are scribbling notes. "Meadowsweet's nice," the senior appy notes with a lazy grin. Yep. "Meadosweet!" Aerrin looks triumphant as she glances from apprentice to apprentice, only to find the answer in Miralwyn. "Meadowsweet has many of the same qualities as willowsalic, only milder.. it's why we reccomend its use with children. Hyssop - let's chat about it for a while. Hyssop as two main uses.. one internally, and one externally. Internally, it's good for coughs and is often used in syrups. Externally it's used for bruises, especially black eyes. What about mosstea? Can you tell me anything about this herb? You should remember the name from your first aid classes, if you've had them." Miralwyn blinks quietly. She got it right...? Apparently she learned some of the herbs through osmosis. Also known as falling asleep over a scroll. Of course, the downside is that she's now inarguably the teacher's pet. Mehh... she can live with it. "Mosstea... Ah, it's used to pack wounds with?" Why, she doesn't know. Fareia snaps her fingers. It's on the tip of her tongue. "Mosstea....blocks infection." Ooh yes, go Farie. Fingersnapping desists and she quietly goes back to her sulking and notes. Leywen twists a braid around her finger as she notes the next herbs and their uses, eyes starting to wander here and there in boredom. Letting Miralwyn answer, she's doing such a fabulous job of it after all, the dark-skinned apprentice commences on a new drawing in the margin of her notes. "Very good," Aerrin intones with an approving nod before fixing Leywen with a stare, lips curled into a smile. "Then who can tell me.. what sorts of herbs are commonly used in soothing teas? Leywen?" Don't answer, get called on, you see. "Teas...?" Looking bewildered Leywen looks up, her pencil still to the paper making a thick line across as she moves her hand. "I dunno?" she says, eyes desperately seeking help from her fellow apprentices. Miralwyn simply smiles over at Leywen in a most unsympathetic manner. Hey, all you have to do is read the scrolls... She notes down the uses of mosstea, and returns to looking beatific. Fareia gives Leywen a very sympathetic look, just dying to give her a bit of a hint, but refrains from doing so by fear of Aerrin. C'mon...What has Phar been tlaking about all lesson? What did she want to dump on Miral? Aerrin nods shortly. "Teas.. it's really not that difficult.. Honestly. I had hoped that apprentices would realize that being aquantited with the basics of the herbalry would be useful," she intones with a slight sigh before glancing at the others. "Anyone else?" "I know! I know!" Kylianna beams. She knows all these things. Sure, she's had the class... taught the class... But still. It's the principle of the thing. Fareia glances back at Leywen with an apologetic glance then volunteers meekly,"Camomile. Rosehips..." Miralwyn leans back in her chair, looking as bored as her expressionless face will allow. "Peppermint." she adds. "Peppermint. Definitely peppermint." Nodnod. Kylianna sagely agrees. After all, why not? Leywen grimaces, her eyes darting from Aerrin to the others and back again. Wasn't it the point of the class to /become/ aquanted with herbs, though? In her opinion, this was the truth in any case. Jotting down the names of the herbs mentioned, she adds another line 'Don't chose herbalry as specialty!' and underlines it with a thick black underscore. "Peppermint's great. Good for your breath, and it settles upset stomachs. Plus, it can be used to make a salve for the chest to help clear up congestion. Peppermint oil can also be very good for muscles and joints when rubbed into them." Beam. Kylianna hops, petting her ferret very carefully. Can't let Aer notice. "Any questions?" Fareia shakes her head to Kyli, quickly jotting this down and inconspicuously trying to stretch. Is it over, /yet/? Leywen is just keen to get this class over with and shakes her head 'no' to questions. Nothing from her, although you can be sure she'll go home and read up on the subject. Miralwyn shakes her head. "No. And there won't be any homework on this, correct?" Hey, it's worth a shot, asking. "If you're lucky." Kylianna smirks. "It depends how nicely you walk out from the room, yes?" Mwhaha. Of course, Kyli doesn't have the power to assign homework, so she'll just pretend she can. "And!" Those hands once more clap together. "Fellis! This is important! Only Masters may dispense it unsupervised. The reason for this is that it can be quite deadly.. It's measured in drops. One drop lessens pain, but won't cause drowsiness, while two drops will leave a patient feeling rather intoxicated. Five drops will bring on a deep sleep for about twelve hours, while ten.. kills. These are, of course, relative to the strength of the batch of fellis and the size of the patient - which is why it can be so dangerous. And it's poisonous to dragons. So you aren't allowed near it." Kylianna slips towards the door, a little smirk on her face. "Any other questions? 'Cause. That's all for the lesson. Unless you have some pressing question." Miralwyn, have questions about Herbalry? Surely you jest. With a "Thank you for the lesson," she gathers her satchel and notes, and flees accordingly. Fareia flips her notebook shut, tosses it in her bag, shakes her head hurriedly,"Non whatsoever. Goodbye!" With a wave, and a nice walk out the door, she is off. 'Fellis!' is written in Leye's notebook with a big warning mark next to it, and seeing Kylianna hurry toward the door, she finds it pretty safe to pack it into her carry sack. "No... Thanks for the lesson," she says, imitating Miralwyn. |
