Linda and Dennis directed us to a great place, BackPackers Kings, in Hillside, Harare. Paul and Sibongile, the Ndbele couple who run the lodge, have been very hospitable. Today we went to the Lion and Cheetah Park just out of Harare. The lions are lazy, but the cheetahs showed a little more interest (especially after Paul paid one of the park attendants to stir them up a little!) This elephant was very tame and we rode upon it.
It was interesting to see the red "skull" flags marking the land-mine fields whilst driving through Mozambique. We stopped at a village to take this photo. At the border post to Mozambique it was a little distressing to have children running up to the car saying "Gimme kwacha". I couldn't help thinking, "Why aren't these kids at school? What future do they have?" I've even had people in the street say to me "Hello money", as though "money" was my first name!
The car has given trouble again. Two of the spark plugs were cracked, and there was a large hole in the exhaust pipe, as well as the oil was very dirty. It sounded as though it was running on three cylinders! Hopefully now it will get me to CapeTown OK, from where I will fly out of Africa.
