APRIL UPDATES
Friday, April 4, 2003: I met with Lakewood High School @ Children's Hosp yesterday. I liked the representatives very much. They are going to work out a program for Jason plus have a tutor @ home. He will have an aide with him at all times. They will let me know next week when he will start. I will also take JJ to the school to meet them before he starts. I will take Jason to Licking Memorial Hosp, today, to meet with PT and Speech to find out what kind of program is available for him. My mom has been taking Jason to the YMCA every day. He is up to walking 1/2 mile, riding the bike and doing some arm exercises. She's keeping him in shape.
Sunday, April 6, 2003: We met with the physical therapy people on Friday and he will be having therapy on Tuesday's and Thursday's for 45 minutes each session. My step-daughter Rhonda and her husband Jeremy took Jason and I to the Hebron Fire Dept on Saturday to meet the men that helped save my son's life. We both thanked them very much. They are a great group of men! I believe they appreciated our visit. They stated they don't always get to know what happens afterwards. It was a great visit. We also went to the scene of the accident (as Jason asked to go). He doesn't remember anything. We also saw a digital picture of the car after they cut Jason out of it. I can't even put into words what I felt. My son could not believe his eyes. It was a very trying day for him. He is in very good spirits today. He has a wonderful sense of humor. He is such a great kid. More later.
Tuesday April 8, 2003: I heard from Lakewood High today. Jason will start school on Monday. We will meet with his teachers this Friday. He will go to school from 8:00 to 11:15. He is doing great! We will try to get an updated picture of him on this website.
Sunday, April 13, 2003: We did meet with the teachers on Friday. Jason will be starting school on Monday. He will be going from 8:00 to 11:16. The subjects will be reading, math, data processing and then work in the school store. On Mondays and Wednesday's he will have speach therapy. He will be in a smaller class setting. He needs more one on one teaching. He will have an aide with him until he is better.
Tuesday, April 15, 2003: Wow! I didn't think we would make the front page of the Advocate. But, I thought it was a nice article. Jason started back to school and seems to like it pretty well. I think he will adjust well. He will go for a swallow test next week - so, hopefully if the food is going to the correct place he can start eating real food. I found out who my Angel was that cleared my driveway of snow over the winter. He wants to remain anonymous, and I will respect that fact. THANK YOU SNOW ANGEL!

Friday, April 18, 2003: Jason and I went to a brain injury support group last night. It was enlightening. He wants to go back. It is held the third Thursday of every month @ Licking Memorial Hosp. Jason wants to add more subjects in school. So, I will be talking to the school about that, possibly today. He is bored being at home. I now have a lawn Angel. Thanks Tony! More later.
Tuesday, April 22, 2003: Jason had his swallow test today. He passed it with flying colors! The food is going where it is suppose to go. His grandma asked him what he wanted to eat and he said "Red Lobster". So, she brought him by my work and he asked me if I would take him to Red Lobster. I told him "no" not until he eats enough to warrant the price of Red Lobster. I'm sure his stomach has shrunk and he couldn't possibly eat that amount of food at one sitting. So, he went to his Aunt Diana's house and asked her if she would take him, because he remembered her saying, at the hospital, that when he was able to eat she would take him where ever he wanted to go. She took him and I went along, as well as his cousins Crystal and David and Aunt Sally. We ate our dinner. He ate about two bites (which is how I thought it would be). But, at least he tried. We brought the rest home and hopefully he will eat it tomorrow. This is another task he has accomplished. He is progressing well. I cannot believe that we have been home for almost 4 weeks now. This time has flown (unlike the first 4 weeks in the hospital)
: I now have tree angels. I have two huge pine trees in the front of my property that needed trimmed badly. Thanks to Mr. Ray and my step-son Scott, my trees were trimmed. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Now, maybe some day I will grow up and can do my yard myself. As Jason has been doing the yard for a few years, now. But, he is not able to at this time. Hopefully, some day.
Monday, April 28, 2003: Jason had two follow-up appointments today. One was with the neurosurgeon who operated on his brain. He did another cat scan. I should find out the results tomorrow. He was very pleased with his progress. Much better than he anticipated. The other was with the general surgeon who inserted his G-Tube. I am very concerned, as he has lost 7 pounds. I quit giving him his day feeds during the day and just kept him on his night feeds, in hopes that he would eat. He is not eating. So today started him back on his day feeds. The doctor says he will eat when he is ready. It takes time. He says he is really hungry, but, when the food is put in front of him - he says "don't rush me or bug me, I'll eat it", but, he doesn't. I guess it takes time for everything. More later.
