JANUARY UPDATES

Friday, January 3: Jason is still unconscious, with brain swelling. He has fractured the bones in his face, which has caused injury to his right eye socket. It appears that a piece of bone has ruptured the outer lining of his brain and hit the optic nerve on the right eye. This means there is a possible chance that he may not be able see with that eye. Swelling is continuing to cause problems for him. He also has an unseparated break in his pelvis.

Saturday, January 4: Jason is still unconscious, he was seen by a Neurologist, who felt he was ready for surgery to relieve the pressure off the brain. They performed the surgery this morning to drain the fluid, and to remove a blood clot--all went well. It is still a hour-by-hour waiting time at this point. The swelling is starting to subside thanks to the surgery. At this time they are unable to check for any other injuries, until the swelling decreases. Once the swelling goes down, they will be able to tell if there are any other injuries to report.

Sunday, January 5: Jason is still unconscious. He had a hard day today--at one point today his heart rate dropped really low. His brain pressure went up today and as long as it does not go much higher, they will just treat it like they have been. If it goes to high, they will have to take measures to release the pressure. He is also carrying a low fever today. It is still a hour-to-hour waiting time.

Monday, January 6: Jason is not stable today. They put him in a drug induced coma today. They will keep him in it for 3 days and it will take 3 days for him to come out of it. They are hoping this will stablize him. Jason is not allowed any vistors today. The family is asking for everyone to pray for Jason and keep him in their hearts. We know with everyone's prayers he will get better.

Monday, January 6: Jason has some bleeding in his brain tonight. Although Jason cannot have any visitors, his mother, Gail, could use all the support you can give.

Tuesday, January 7: Please pray for Jason! He is not doing well! Keep Gail in your prayers too.

Tuesday, January 7: We have been waiting all day to hear from the doctors on an update. Haven't heard from them personally, but Jason's nurse let the family know that he does have blood flow to his brain. This morning they were not sure if he did. Keep Praying!

Tuesday Evening: We had a scare today, but good news came at the end of a long day. The angiogram shows good blood flow to the brain and good brain waves. The doctor is requesting no more than 4 to 5 visitors a day. He is still in a drug induced coma. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers. Keep up the good work Jason!! He still has a long road ahead of him and with your help we will succeed!

Wednesday, January 8: Jason is stable this morning and brain pressure is still down.

MESSAGE FROM GAIL (Jason's Mom) This web site is awesome! Keep your prayers coming. Jason had a really bad day yesterday, but I truly believe your prayers pulled him through. I am not a very religious person, but I have always believed in God. I know Jason is in God's hands. You all have restored my faith. I will be reading these e-mails to Jason. Thanks to all of you! You have also helped me a great deal. Keep them coming and God bless all of you!

Thursday, January 9: Jason had a very good night and is still stable. They are hoping to start pulling him slowly out of his drug induced coma on Friday, January 10 or Saturday, January 11.

Friday, January 10: Jason had another stable night. They will be taking him off his medicine that keeps him in a drug induced coma tomorrow. It will take about 2 to 3 days to come out of the drug induced coma. They will be working on moving Jason in another room today because there is a baby that has been crying all night beside his room. The crying has made Jason's brain waves go crazy, so the good news about that is he is hearing the baby.

Saturday, January 11: Jason is still stable and they took him off his coma medicine today. It will take a couple of days to wear off. They are only allowing 1 to 2 people at a time back to see him and visitors are not allowed to talk in his room. Talking confuses him and messes up his brain waves. They want to keep him calm. He has been trying to breathe on his own today, which they do not want him doing yet. Your prayers are helping him go in the right direction now!! Keep praying and thank you!

Sunday, January 12: Jason is still stable today and his reflexes are good. They have taken him off his blood pressure medication and he is holding his blood pressure on his own. Your prayers are working, so keep it up!

Monday, January 13: Jason had a comfortable night. The doctors are going to remove the EEG terminals off of his head along with the bolt that is on the top of his head. All of your support and prayers are working for him so keep up the good work.

Tuesday, January 14: Jason had a restful night. Although JJ is still asleep the Therapist was in to see him and excercise his body. He did respond to commands such as wiggle your toes and thumbs up. Just a note to help clear up some information that we misunderstood. The medication they used to put Jason into the coma would take 2 to 3 days to wear off and from then on it is up to Jason to wake up. Thank you all once again and keep up the good work on the prayers and support.

Wednesday, January 15: Jason had another comfortable night. They will be taking him off the ventilator today. During the night, he responded to commands. Keep the prayers going.

Wednesday, January 15: Jason has the ventilator off and is breathing on his own. Keep the prayers up and maybe the sleepy head will awake up.

Thursday, January 16: Jason is stable, but still not awake. They are replacing his feeding tube today.

Friday, January 17: Jason is stable, but still not awake. He responds to commands some of the time, but sometimes he does not. Gail has been reading to him, and putting earphones on him and playing CDs. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Saturday, January 18: We are just still waiting for Jason to wake up, not a lot to update at this time. There may be more to report later. Please keep up the support for Gail and Jason. Also, remember your prayers.

Sunday, January 19: Sorry it took so long, computer problems. Jason is still holding his own, not much of a change. Still asleep but responsive at times. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Monday, January 20: Jason had a good night. They will be starting him on medicine today that will help wake him up. The therapist sat him up on the side of the bed this morning and he held up his head by himself. Keep up the prayers and please let Gail know everyone is there for her still.

Tuesday, January 21: Jason had another good night, but he is still asleep. He went to surgery this morning to have a feeding tube put directly into his stomach and a tracheotomy.

Wednesday, January 22: Jason is still asleep. He will be having surgery to repair the broken bones in his face the first week of February.

Thursday, January 23: Jason had a good restful night. The Therapist was in this morning to see J and had him sitting up in a wheelchair for a half hour for therapy. He did good in the chair his mom said. Also, hopefully by Saturday January 25, they are wanting to move him out of ICU onto the 3rd floor of the hospital. All the support and prayers you have all provided and we the family hope that you will continue those has brought him this far and will bring him all the home. Thank You Very Much.

Friday, January 24: Jason is not awake yet, but is more alert when he is being talked to. He and the Therapists had a good day today, he responded to her commands when ask. He is up in a wheelchair again today, while his mom watches over him. They are going to move him out of ICU sometime later today. He will be moving to 3 South, but we do not know what time or what room number he will be in today. Gail is very excited, because yesterday she and her nephew David were talking to JJ and Gail ask him to wave at her and he did. The doctor came in and talked to JJ and told him that he was in a bad accident and that he was his doctor and ask him to give him a thumbs up and a peace sign, and he also did that, so he is becoming more alert everyday. Baby steps is what it takes and he is doing good. We are asking that when visiting Jason, that only one person at a time talk to him, so that he doesn't get confused of all the different voices around him. We cannot say how much we appreciate all the prayers and support from everyone. Thank you.

Sunday, January 26,2003: Sorry for no update on Saturday, one person thought the other had done it and no one did it. Yesterday Jason was moved to room 3003 on 3 south of Childrens Hospital. He is continuing to take his little steps to getting better. They sit him up in a wheelchair everyday for about an hour and a half for therapy, he is doing very well in the chair. He is adjusting to his new room very well, although they gave him one with a pink wall. Thank you once again to all.

Monday, January 27, 2003: Jason is doing good today. Jason is awake and responding. However he is not speaking but seems to hear what you are saying most of the time. Jason gets tired easily and may sleep through your visit.

Tuesday, January 28, 2003: Jason is doing good again today. When I spoke to Gail today he was sitting in a wheelchair and she was reading him his new entries from his guestbook. Keep writing and praying!

Wednesday, January 29, 2003: Jason had his hair cut today. Crystal Lake was kind enough to come to the hospital and cut Jason's hair.

Thursday, January 30, 2003: Jason had surgery today to repair some of the damage to the bones in his face. Jason's surgery went well!

Friday, January 31, 2003: In surgery yesterday they reset Jason's broken jaw with metal plate and didn't have to wire it shut. The surgery to repair anything above his cheeks will be in the future. We are in the process of setting up a savings account for donations to help with his medical bills, care and miscellaneous expenses. We want to make it possible for Gail to help Jason get better and not have to worry about all the bills and the well being of Jason. Being a single parent, Gail will need all the help she can get. Information on where to send donations will be posted.
