The 1998 election is made more significant by the country's centennial celebration. Officials who shall assume office after this election will play the most historic role our heroes have valiantly essayed one hundred years ago. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that every citizen recognize the significance of the electoral exercise not only as a journey back into our glorious past but a stride into our historic future. In this setting, the youths are once again called to take the vanguard role in our quest for national development and progress.
Our history is replete with stories of heroism by our youth. Jose Rizal, our national hero, himself, is in the prime of his youth when he committed himself to the cause of his motherland. Andres Bonifacio kept his family after the demise of his parents. His youth has not hampered him from supporting his siblings. Emilio Aguinaldo became municipal mayor of Kawit when he was in his early twenties. Contemporary time has also witnessed outstanding youth leaders who were able to hold ground against the bias of the older generation. In fact, the organization of the Young Legislators Association of the Philippines is a testament to the growing influence of the youth on a critical area of governance. Thus, Jay Santiago's desire to sit in the Makati City Council is not fancy imagination. It is founded on the historic role the youth has played throughout our history. The youth has done it long ago and is still doing it today. Jay Santiago will only be fulfilling the youth's historic responsibility in the year of our centennial, in the City of Makati. Creative? Help us improve this study on the campaign poster of Jay. It is official! Lakas NUCD-UMDP Makati fields Jay as official candidate. Jay's election homepage has been nominated to the first ever Philippine Webby Awards. Help us win the plum for the Government/Politics category. |
