Note: This poem is mostly inspired from the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. If this poem says anything to anyone, I hope it will lead them to see that I am nothing special on my own… if there is anything good in me at all; it is God, who is alone wise.

Understanding God’s truth is not a matter of our own cleverness, it is all a simple matter of humility which works through faith… and according to Hebrews 12:2, Jesus Himself is the author and the finisher of our faith.

So this is all about Him and what He can do through us when we surrender to His will. This is why Paul wrote to the Christians during His time, saying "it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure" (Phillippians 2:13). I do believe that we have a free will (our wills are ours so that we can make them God's), otherwise there would be no just basis for condemnation... but we must consent for God to work His will in us.

Free will does not give us a reason to boast: If someone was in a boat, and they pulled you out of the water to save you from some sharks, you would not have a reason to boast simply because you reached out and let them pull you out of the water to save you...nor do we have a reason to boast for letting God save us from our wretched sinful nature, unless we are boasting in the cross (See Galatians 6:14). Although we consent, it is still He alone who saves us (See Ephesians 2:8-9 and Titus 3:3-7).

So it does not matter how old we are, it does not matter how clever we are, and it does not even matter how long we have been reading the Bible… if there is no fear (reverence) of God, then there is simply no wisdom. That is why I wrote this poem. It is not about works of righteousness that I have done, but it is a testimony of what God has done.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).
