You Gotta Have Friends
Everybody knows how Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw have been friends since way  before either had a record deal -- and it's Tim's belief in Jo Dee that led  to his co-producing her records. With BURN, Jo Dee's upcoming album, McGraw  shares something else with his dear friend -- his voice.

On the poignant "Bring On The Rain," McGraw adds vocal support to a song   about surviving a trying day and having the will to face another. It's a song   Messina felt said something about both of their lives.

"But Tim loved 'Bring On The Rain' so much, he wanted to sing on it. I think  we both gravitated toward that song because we both truly understand what  it's saying. I mean, he's been there; I've been there - and it's one of the  common bonds we both have.

"After all, we've always had the same dreams. We had the same struggle in a  lot of ways with relationships and our careers. I've always wanted to sing  with him, but obviously for us, love songs weren't going to work, but this  song seemed to be the perfect song.

You Gotta Have Friends, Two
Everybody also knows how generous the double platinum redhead can be. And  it's the kind of generous she doesn't necessarily like to call attention to, either. (So, don't necessarily tell her I told you this…)

At a recent show in Georgia, someone left a note at one of the t-shirt stands  asking Messina for help. Seems there's a man named Claude Bubba Anderson who needed a new lift for his wheelchair to get himself into his van. Though the note never reached Messina that evening, it did eventually make its way into the singer's hands.

The very next night when she was onstage, the reigning CMA Horizon Award  winner told the audience about the situation and asked for their help too. "If people will go to the t-shirt stands and chip in their spare change, because every little bit adds up, I'll match it."

Look for Jo Dee to sing her current single, the chart-bounding "That's The Way" on CBS' "The Early Show" June 19th as part of their summer concert series.

Quote of the day: (4/5/00)
"To me, the songs have to say something I can relate to or would actually say. I have to be able to represent it and I have to be able to feel it." -- Jo Dee Messina

From the looks of her tour schedule, Jo Dee Messina doesn't plan to slow down much this year. The spunky redhead, who's nominated in the female vocalist category of both the Academy of Country Music and the TNN awards, kicked off  2000 with an Australian tour. Then in February and March, she opened more than 20 shows on the Judds' Power To Change reunion tour.
Jo Dee's upcoming show schedule -- mainly fairs, festivals and amphitheaters -- finds her headlining most of the time. She'll open for the Judds once more, though, at the duo's Nashville-area tour finale June 10. Then June 12-16, Jo Dee will make appearances at her fan club booth at Nashville's Fan Fair. Her third album, the follow-up to the double-platinum I'm Alright, should hit stores around that time. In September, Jo Dee heads to Switzerland to perform at the Gstaad Festival
