MARTINA MCBRIDE TEACHES DAUGHTERS A LESSON IN EARNING MONEY AND SAVES A HOME FROM BURNING…ALL IN A DAYS WORK FOR AN ANYTHING BUT TYPICAL MOM
Posted on Wednesday, July 31 2002

When Martina McBride’s seven year-old daughter Delaney asked for a Game-boy, Martina used the opportunity to teach her daughter about financial responsibility. She told Delaney that she would have to buy the game with money she earned herself. Delaney decided to set up a lemonade and brownie stand and Martina advanced her the money to buy all the supplies. Delaney made the treats as well as created flyers that she handed out to the neighborhood businesses where her father’s new recording studio, Blackbird, is located. Martina and younger daughter Emma joined in to help for the afternoon.

I always wanted to have a lemonade stand when I was growing up so I got to fulfill one of my childhood dreams,” admitted Martina. “Delaney made change and everything. Passing out the flyers really helped, she raised over $90 dollars in three hours! Emma’s job was to say ‘Good-bye and thanks for coming!’”

The excitement doesn’t end there, immediately following the bake sale, Martina noticed a burning shrub at a house across the street from the studio. She ran and got the fire extinguishers and tried to put the flames out but had to call for backup from husband John. Luckily, they noticed the flame and were able to extinguish it before it got out of hand because no one was home at the residence. No word on how it started.

To top off the excitement of the weekend, Martina appeared on the Opry Saturday evening and spent the day Sunday with a television crew from Lifetime’s Intimate Portrait who were filming for an upcoming profile on the platinum selling supermom and part-time firefighter. The profile will air sometime in November

MARTINA TO ROCK THE "GRAND GARDEN" FOR A CAUSE
Posted on Monday, July 15 2002

Martina McBride, Elton John, Carlos Santana and comedian Dennis Miller are confirmed as performers at the 7th annual Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children benefit concert on September 28th. The gala, which is taking place the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, raises fund for needy kids in Southern Nevada through the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation. To date, the organization has raised more than $18 million for charity. In fact, last year's show raised over $4.2 million with the help of artists like Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Here's the best part - every penny raised went to benefit underprivileged, abused and "at-risk" children in the Las Vegas community. Previous participants in the event, which has become the largest single fund-raising event ever held in Las Vegas, also include LeAnn Rimes, Wynonna, Don Henley and Arnold Schwarzenegger. For more information on how to get tickets, log onto  http://www.AgassiFoundation.org
