SONS OF DESERT HERALDED BY MARCHING BAND
For the first time ever a
CRS label event took place in the lobby of the "Batman" building, the Bell South
Tower. The Band held forth outside the building to direct radio seminar attendees into the
building to see Sons of the Desert. (Nashville Update)
MORE FROM CRS
Warner Music Group threw
their Live Show at the Ryman Auditorium last night. This year's edition of the show had a
particularly strong lineup of new and proven talent. Performing were Lila McCann, Christy
Sutherland, South 65, Trick Pony, Blake Shelton, Hal Ketchum, John Michael Montgomery.

EVEN MORE GREAT CRS STUFF
CLEDUS T. JUDD was at
the show and it was announced that he's been added to the BROOKS & DUNN Neon Circus
and Wild West show tour that features Kix and Ronnie, Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentry and
keith urban. Judd quipped that looking at the lineup of wild and crazy people on the tour
has inspired them to establish the "ROAD TO RECOVERY TOUR" FUND for the first
persons on the tour to go to jail or to rehab. Judd figures that at some point keith urban
will end up as the headliner of the tour. And he's planning on changing Brooks and Dunn's
souvenir caps to have the B&D logo changed to stand for the "Betty &
Ford" tour, with the word "Outpatient" embroidered on the arch in the back
of the hats.(Nashville Update)

while Lauderdale had several albums on RCA. Lauderdale will release a new album, "The
Other Sessions," June 12. The label is operated by Scott Robinson and Dan Heffington.

THE CLASS OF 2000 ANNOUNCED
Country's Class of 2000 -- a
show spotlighting three of the brightest new stars to emerge on the country music scene
this year will take place on Saturday night at Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon. This year,
the show will help wrap up the annual Country Radio Seminar and features JamieO' Neal, Rascal Flatts and Darryl Worley. Here's the best part, you can check out the
show -- the cover's only $10. The event caps a year of tremendous success for all three
artists. In rapid-fire succession Jamie's debut single, "There Is No Arizona,"
reached the coveted #1 spot in all three radio trade publications, she's been profiled in
People magazine and she's appeared on various television shows. Darryl's first single,
"When You Need My Love," was a top 15 hit on all the country radio singles
charts and received immediate critical acclaim while his second single, "A Good Day
To Run," is already in the top 10. As for Rascal Flatts, the trio had the highest
first week sales for a debut country group. Plus, their first single, "Prayin For
Daylight," was also their first hit. Not to mention that they're currently on the
road with Jo Dee Messina, on her "Burn 2001" Tour. By the way - check
out Jamie O' Neal tonight on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." (T-100)

LILA GETS SOME HELP FROM
"SHUGAR"
Lila McCann has been a
busy young lady -- she's been busy finishing her latest album and last weekend, she
performed her new single, "Come
A Little Closer," and
her previous chart-topper, "I
Wanna Fall In Love,"
at the Opry. While visiting her family in Tacoma, Washington (don't forget -- she recently
moved to Los Angeles and got her own apartment in Los Angeles), she got the call to come
to Starstruck studios immediately. Sure she rushed back to Nashville to record "Whisper The Words," a last minute addition to her album,
but she needed to bring her dog Shugar, a miniature Yorkshire
Terrier, (and yes -- that's how she spells it) with her. To keep things focused on the
music at hand, her producer brought in his dog, Toby, to keep Shugar occupied while he and
Lila recorded her new song. Her new single will be released next month and her latest album, Complete,
is due in stores this summer. One other thing, since Fan Fair is also around the corner, Lila has
decided her Fan Fair booth this year should be a tribute to her fans. To make that happen,
she wants to decorate the booth entirely from fan
submissions. This is where you get involved. Lila is asking for you to send in handmade
posters, collages, photos and anything else you think is appropriate. So send your stuff
to the following address: Lila Fan Fair 2001; c/o Lila McCann Fan Club; 3800A Bridgeport
Way West, Suite 533; University Place, Washington 98466. (T-100)

BORN TO FLY IN A STELLAR GROUP
Sara Evans has confirmed
that a Country Divas tour, featuring herself, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and,
occasionally, Jamie O'Neal, is scheduled to kick off in mid-July and end in late August. "I'm so excited," says Evans. "Literally, you couldn't ask for a better show and I'm so
glad they asked me to do it." (WGAR)

PAM THANKS DAD
Pam Tillis' Thunder and
Roses will be in stores on March 6, but she's already planning her next album to be a
tribute to her father, Mel Tillis. "I want to do an album like Natalie Cole did for her dad," says Pam, who describes Mel as a "darn
good dad." (WGAR)

OVER DUE
You can't accuse Warner Brothers recording trio Trick Pony of not paying
their dues. Leading up to the release of their self-titled debut album in March, these
folks have been on the road for 300 dates a year the past several years. Bassist Ira Dean
tells Billboard magazine that he and guitarist Keith Burns along with singer-harmonica
player Heidi Newfield take turns at lead vocals. The trio wrote eight songs on their new
album. (Country 105)

EVANS ALSO FILMING NEW VIDEO
Sara Evans is in White Sands, New Mexico today filming
the video for her new single, "I Could Not Ask for More." Evans' particular good
looks inspired the video director's choice of location figuring she'd look sensational
against the brilliant blue sky and white sands of the spot. (Nashville Update)

ON TOUR
Singer-songwriter Mary
Chapin Carpenter is taking
on the problem of land mines during her visit to Cambodia. The Grammy Award winner is
being joined by singer-songwriter and visual artist Terry Allen, and Cambodian-American
author Luong Ung. The Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, which helps land mine
victims in Cambodia, is hosting the visitors, who will arrive tomorrow. Larrie Warren, the
foundation's country director for Cambodia, says the foundation is anxious to give people
who have helped a chance to see the work that's being done firsthand, and raising even
more awareness about the problem of land mines. (Country 105)

PUSH BACK
Mindy McCready's debut for Capitol was slated for a
March release, but now has been pushed back indefinitely. She gained more controversy with
a calendar showing her almost nude, eliciting negative response in some media.
McCready inked with Capitol after three albums on RCA. The Floridian had her most
success with her debut. She split with RCA two weeks after her album was released in
1999. (Country Standard Time)

A NEW HOME
The Americana music
charts have a new home. A
trade publication, The Album Network, will begin publishing the Americana Roots chart this
month," says Dennis Lord, newly elected president of the Americana Music Association,
Wednesday in a press release. The Album Network, a weekly radio trade magazine, first
began in 1978 and is currently being published by SFX Mulitmedia. "We are delighted
to add the Americana Roots chart to our existing mix," said Tommy Nast, executive
vice president of The Album Network. "We strongly believe in this format's potential
for growth, and are committed to being a part of that expansion." The first Americana
Roots chart is scheduled to run in the Feb. 16 issue. The Americana chart originated Jan.
20, 1995, in the Gavin Report, another radio trade magazine. Gavin ended publication Oct.
13, 2000, following a reorganization." (Country Standard Time)

AARON TALKS ABOUT HIS
"PEOPLE"
It's always a pleasure when
celebrities keep their egos in check. That attitude is very clear in Aaron Tippin's latest
hit, "People Like Us." He admits that the song easily served as an anchor to his
album, which is why it became the album's title track. He also says that project's theme
was obvious from the beginning. Aaron says, quote, "I think that song is the most outstanding track we cut for
the album. But, when you look at all the songs as a group, it's a well-rounded story about
'people like us.'" He adds
that he thinks his fans appreciate the down-to-earth nature of his music and at the
moment, you can find him pleasing those fans across the country. For information on when
he's coming to your town, log on to his official website, www.AaronTippin.com. (T-100)

JAMIE JUST WANTS TO GIVE BACK
As we've reported
previously, Jamie O' Neal isn't exactly a newcomer to Nashville, she's been a demo singer
for a few years. For her part, Jamie admits that she's excited about fame, but not for the
reason most people think. Jamie says, quote, "I hope to attain the level of fame that
allows me to lend my name to a charity and have it really make a difference. " Jamie
also says that she refuses to let celebrity change her personality. One of her role models
in that department is none other than Dolly Parton. She says, quote, "Everybody that
knows her, loves her. She gives back to her fans, gets back and then gives again. I hope
to be that kind of person." For Jamie, she got plenty of pointers from the legend
herself. You see, she met Dolly for the first time when she and her family were the
entertainer's opening act. (T-100)
