Faith's advice

By SCOTT PHILLIPS -- Calgary Sun

Faith Hill has valuable advice for newcomers to the biz -- do not hit the road until you'reready.

Back in '93, Faith scored back-to-back Number 1s with Wild One and Piece Of My Heart. She felt the pressure to hit the road, which she did in '94. It proved to be a costly mistake as Faith blew a blood vessel in her vocal chords.

"The fact that I had been around the business didn't really prepare me for life on the road," Faith explains.

"It's totally different. I had a great time that year; I was really blessed, very lucky, but I was just running on pretty much no gas. By the end of the year, I had exhausted every ounce of energy I had and that ended up being the cause of the blood vessel bursting."

More wedding bells for the DixieChicks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- One wedding reportedly is producing another among the Dixie Chicks for the second time.

Martie Seidel, the last single member of the female country trio, is engaged to marry Irish college professor Gareth MaGuire, according to unnamed sources cited by The Tennessean newspaper.

Kathy Allmand, spokeswoman for the Dixie Chicks, said Monday she could not confirm the engagement.

Allmand said Seidel met MaGuire at the wedding of the sister of Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines. MaGuire is Maines' brother-in-law.

It was the second time a Chick found her intended at a wedding. Maines and Adrian Pasdar became acquainted at the 1999 wedding of the third Chick, Emily Erwin, and singer Charlie Robison.

Erwin and Seidel are sisters.

The Grammy-winning trio's hits include "Goodbye Earl," "Wide Open Spaces" and "I Can Love You Better."
