VASSAR MAY PRODUCE
WRIGHT
Phil Vassar celebrated his
latest No. 1 hit as a songwriter, the Tim McGraw cut "My Next Thirty Years,"
with a party Monday (Jan. 29) at the Music Row offices of the American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Although his songwriting and performing careers
are going well, Vassar also has taken on producing. He co-wrote and co-produced "Live
It Up" for new act Marshall Dyllon, and now he may be heading into the studio with
Chely Wright. "I'm working
with her on a couple of songs. It's hard -- you've got two artists trying to coordinate
schedules," Vassar tells
country .com. "We've been
passing each other in buses on the road somewhere." The Vassar-Wright collaborations would be for Wright's next MCA
album, which has no official release date. In between songwriting and touring, Vassar says
he hopes to do more producing. He'll be back in the studio in March and April working on
his second album, which Vassar says probably won't be released until next year. (Music

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 29,
2001) Though it was quite a thrill to release her first single from her new album
recently, Sherrié Austin had an even bigger thrill last week when her longtime country
music idol, Dolly Parton, sent her a personal note of endorsement about the new single.
The song is a remake of the classic Dolly Parton tune, "Jolene." Dolly
sent Sherrié a note complimenting Sherrié on her vocals and her version of the song and
even noted appreciation to the Aussie for cutting it.
Austin comments, "I was
so thrilled and so honored to receive such a sweet letter from Dolly saying how much she
likes my voice on our new version of "Jolene" and thanking me for recording her
song. Getting her blessing means the world to me!"
Dolly recently cut a song of Sherrié's as a duet with Hal Ketchum. The song, titled
"The Lucky One," will appear on Ketchum¹s forthcoming album from Curb Records.
Sherrié¹s video "Jolene" debuts Wednesday, January 31 on CMT's "Delivery
Room" in Hot Shot rotation and debuts Thursday, February 1 on GAC's "Fast
Forward" in medium rotation. Her new record, Followin¹ A Feelin¹, will be released
March 20 on WE Records.

JESSICA GROWS INTO "WHO"
SHE "IS"
If you've caught yourself singing "Who I Am," Jessica Andrews' latest single and title track for her new album,
get ready for the rest of the package -- Jessica's new album will be in stores on February
27th. It's the second album from the soulful singer who's unmistakable voice
catapulted her into the country scene less than two years ago. Since then, she's turned
seventeen and has become one of country music's top-selling debut artists. Plus, she was
crowned Top New Female Vocalist at last year's Academy of Country Music Awards. Jessica
admits that getting a little older has helped her emotionally and creatively. Jessica
says, quote, "I've learned so
much in the past two years, I'm like a new person. Growing up affects everything --
from the types of songs I'm singing, to the musicians I'm
working with, to the way I see the world. Who I Am is a reflection of all of these
changes." In fact, the new
project also brings Jessica her first songwriting credit for the track, "Good Friend
To Me." It's a song she penned after falling in love for the first time. (T-100)

BAR DANCER LEE ANN
Lee Ann Womack spent
Wednesday dancing on top of a bar in Manhatten wearing 4-inch snakeskin stiletto boots, a
cowgirl shirt, pink push-up bra and
leather hip huggers shooting a cover for Texas Monthly. Seems Lee Ann had
fun saying, "Four-inch
heels, dancing on a bar: Just another day at the office." (Tennessean)

TRICK PONY RUNS
New Warner Bros.
act Trick Pony is already off to a good start. For its debut album, the country trio
recorded a song with country legends Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. The group's first
single, "Pour
Me," is a clever
play on words that has already cracked the Top 30 on Billboard's country singles chart.
And members Heidi Newfield, Ira Dean and Keith Burns recently debuted on the Grand Ole
Opry. "I was
composed at the Opry while I was onstage, but as I was walking off I started to tear
up," Newfield
says. "That's when
it really hit me that I've wanted to play that stage all my life." (Music News)

Bros. group Trick Pony, describes the band as a big melting pot.

bit of the Eagles, a little rockabilly and about four-and-a-half years on the road -- and
that's us," explains Ira.(Country Now)

CALLING IT QUITS
The only female record
label head in Nashville is quitting. Asylum Records president Evelyn Shriver has resigned,
along with her chief talent scout Susan Nadler. The resignations come 10 months after
control of Asylum was shifted from New York-based Elektra to Nashville-based Warner
Brothers. Some of the successes Shriver and Nadler had at Asylum include George Jones'
album Cold Hard Truth in 1999, and the Trio Two by Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda
Ronstadt. Shriver says the country music industry has given away its format to pop music,
and she hopes now to start her own independent label. (Country 105)
