Chapter 10

A.N.:I don't think I described how Nick and Stacey met very well. See this park looked like a dump and their lucky they didn't find body parts! There was garbage everywhere and she saw this shoe on the ground. Nick saw her looking at it and in order to get a conversation started he grabbed for it at the same time she did. Sorry for the confusion! I am writing this really fast cause so many ideas are flying threw my head. It'll get better......I promise.

~*~At the beach~*~

"So then we brought Brian here from Kentucky, and we got a record deal. We hit it really big in Canada and Europe. And now we’re kinda big here too." Nick said, finishing off his story.

It was dark now, and the moon was out. He fidgeted as he waited for a reply from her.

She starred at him in awe. "You're a BACKSTREET BOY?" she asked incredulously.

He sighed and shrugged.

"No wonder they were taking pictures of you!!!" she said, shaking her head in amazement. "And that's," she began to giggle. "Thats why you almost choked this afternoon. It all makes sense now."

Looking at him thought fully she said, "You don’t seem very happy about it either. Aren’t you proud of it?"

He sighed and shrugged again. "Yeah....I mean I used to be.......but....this past year, its been hard. I hardly got to see my family, and I missed them. Plus this," he said gestering with his hands. "Is the first date i’ve had in a LONG time."

She starred at the ground playing with sand. "if it makes you feel better, I haven’t seen my family in a long time either. And this is my first date in a year and a half." She said quietly as a tear escaped its place under her eyelid.

Nick placed a hand on her shoulder, silently celebrating when she didn’t jerk away. "what happened?" he asked gently.

She smiled and flopped back on the sand, and starred at the sky. " I used to be the happiest person in the world. Perfect family. Rich. Perfect car. Perfect grades. Great friends. Partied all the time. But last year I played a dangerous game. You see, Kellee and I haven’t always been enemies. We used to be really close. Then I met her boyfriend, Derek. It was love at first sight. We kept it a secret for a long time. He didn’t know how do dump Kellee. He knew what she was like. Controlling. Bitchy. If she found out that he cheated she’d make his life living hell. I went to this party at the end of the year. It was full of people. DRUNK people. I got into a fight with Kellee. She had found out about us. Then Derek showed up, and was completely drunk. Kellee dragged him away from me, and I knew something bad was gonna happen. Bad feeling, you know what I mean?" she asked, pausing to glance up at Nick.

He starred at her and nodded.

Taking a shaky breath she started again. "I called my parents, and they promised to be there right  away. I went and waited outside, for them. Kellee had just gotten out of Dereks car after a huge fight. I remember hearing his tires squeel down the driveway. I kept waiting for my parents only they never.....never came. I finally mooched a ride home with a sober person, and as I walked up to the front door, the police were waiting. With that look on their face. I knew something bad had happened. ‘terrible accident’ they kept saying, as they drove me to the hospital. They told me unfortunately I had to identify the remains of my parents. After I had done it I was told to sit in the hall and wait for the coroner to come out. And thats when I saw kellee coming down the hall. She started screaming at me. Telling me it  was my fault Derek was dead. I was in shock. Derek...dead? Thats when it hit me. The police had told me my parents car had been struck by a drunk driver. Not only had I killed both my parents in one night, but I’d also killed off my one true love."

She stopped then, apparently out of breath, and her vision was blurry from all the tears. Nick flopped down next to her and gently took her hand in his own. Waiting until her sobs had subsided, he stared at the sky.

"It wasn’t your fault, although it seems logical that you think it is. That bitch Kellee has no right to make you think its your fault. She’s still upset too. Don’t forget you weren’t the only one who lost someone you loved. She did too."

She nodded. "I’d better go" she whispered, letting go of his hand and climbing to her feet.

Nick glanced at his watch. "But its only 9:00! I didn’t mean to upset you. Please let me take you to a movie."

She kept her eyes downcast. "You don’t have to. Besides, I kinda don’t feel like being seen in public right now. If you want, we could rent a movie and watch it at my house."

Nick beamed. "SURE! I’d love that."

She allowed herself to smile. "Okay, you can follow me" and they began to walk back to the cars.

She whistled when she saw his. "Holy crap! Being a BackStreet Boy sure has its upsides doesn’t it?"

He smiled and gently kissed her cheek. "Drive carefully" he whispered., and opened her door for her.

Wow. She thought as she drove out of the parking lot. Why is my heart beating so fast? Is it cause he’s so sweet? Smiling a real genuine smile, she picked up speed, and watched as Nick’s car followed closley behind hers.
