Money saving ideas in Vancouver
Note: You do NOT have to beleive them, but you can try!
1) There is a new web site dedicated to providing discount coupons. you will find printable coupons for discounts on things like river rafting, hotels, etc. The link is Vancouver's Daily Use Coupon Page.Another coupon page can be found at Entertainment Coupons Online. They have both a Vancouver & Victoria section.
2) If you are intending on doing a day's sightseeing using public transit, consider purchasing a day pass for around $6.50. These are valid for unlimited travel on Vancouvers transit system after 9:30 AM. You will break even in 2 or 3 trips. The passes are available at most chain convienience stores (Macs, 7-11, etc) and at most supermarkets. Please find more information in Translink.
3) There is an annual coupon book produced, called Entertainment 98, 99 etc. This is generally available in the Fall and is sold by many charitable group. You may be able to obtain a copy later in the year. The book contains 2 for 1 coupons for restaurants and attractions. The publishers phone number is (Area Code 604) 873-8008. The address is 45 West 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC. They might be able to supply you with one or let you know where to get one, if you phone them (at least that is what they told me). You can also order one online, but I think its a bit more expensive. If you are planning on spending more than a few days, you will probably get your moneys worth just by using one or two of the coupons. They also contain coupons for car rentals and some attractions in Washington State and Oregon. They cost around $50. Here is the web site, where you can order the book online: http://www.entertainmentbook.com
4) Budget Rent a Car runs a promotion offering free admission to several Vancouver Attractions along with any car rental, even one day. Its about an $80 value. I'm greatly in favour of renting a car for at least a day or two. Unless you opt for a tour, many Vancouver attractions are best accessed this way.
5) Vancouver has the worlds cheapest Compact Disc prices. Most new releases run around $12 Canadian ($8-$9 US). If you are a music fan, budget some money and stock up. Cheapest prices can be found at A&B Sound at Seymour and Dunsmuir downtown. They also have branches in Metrotown, Surrey, SW Marine near the Airport, and several other locations. Other good bets are Virgin (huge selection) and HMV, both of which are downtown.
6) There is an internet coupon service called SavingUMoney. You can print coupons for various services around Vancouver including meals, products, entertainment, etc. Membership is free. This one looks quite extensive, its worth a visit.
