Faithfulness

Faithfulness is one of he many attributes of God which we should try to imitate. There's a metaphor that's used quite often in the Bible about our walk with God, and that is one of marriage. With any marriage, the importance of faithfulness cannot be overstated. Our work with God is not done when we get saved. We are expected to be faithful to Him, and He is definitely faithful to us.

Deuteronomy 7:9: Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations;

1John 1:9: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hebrews 10:23: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)

He is faithful when we are being tested:

1Corinthians 10:13: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

He is faithful when we are not:

2Timothy 2:13: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

In other words, we need to be faithful because He is!

When He finds us faithful, He puts us in charge of His possessions:

Matthew 24:45: Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

Now, let's take a look at a really interesting verse. Interesting for what it says and what it doesn't say.

Revelation 2:10: Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Notice he doesn't say to be successful, brilliant, minister to a minimum amount of people, etc. It says simply to be faithful. Don't try to be something He hasn't called you to be, or do something for the sake of doing something. Be faithful, until death, and you will be rewarded.

We have established that He is faithful. According to this verse:

Ephesians 4:15: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ, we need to grow up in all aspects of Him. So we are called to be identified with Him, and that gives us the opportunity to be faithful because He is faithful. What an awesome God we have, that even though he is way, way above us, He allows us to be like Him!
