Nationals is coming up on May 17, 18, & 19th. I need to get a formal list of
teams that are planning on attending.  We need to do this so we can plan for
things like the banquet, T-shirts, etc.  Please let me know ASAP of your
teams intent. Do you plan to attend the tournament (or not)?  Additionally I
would like to know how many people on your team will be attending the
banquet.

Announcing the 2002 US National Underwater hockey Tournament to be held in
Gainesville, Florida! This tournament will be an USOA sponsored event and so
USOA memberships need to be current.  Please let me know of your team’s
intention to enter the tournament ASAP via e-mail.

The tournament dates are Friday May 17, Saturday May 18th, and Sunday May
19th.
The banquet will be held on Sunday night following end of play.

On Monday, May 20th, there will be either a canoe trip down the Ichetucknee
River or a boat trip on the Gulf of Mexico near Crystal River (to be
decided).  This is a spring fed river that is crystal clear.  The underwater
visibility is typically 50 ft or more.  Also there are numerous local
springs (Ginnie, Blue, etc.) that are great snorkeling locations and offer
some of the best cave diving in the world.  The Atlantic Beaches &
Jacksonville are 1.5 hours from Gainesville.  The Gulf of Mexico is 45
minutes away (Cedar Key, as in the Jimmy Buffett song).  Tampa and Orlando
are 2 hours away.  There is an airport in Gainesville but it is usually much
cheaper to fly into Jacksonville, Orlando, or Tampa.

Thursday, May 16 - Practice/Set up (5:30 to 7:00 pm)
Friday, May 17 – Tournament play from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm

USOA membership).  The banquet cost on Sunday is $20 per person.  Individual
players will be assigned a team from a list of extra players.  Payment of
tournament fees and 2002 USOA membership sign up have to occur before start

basis.  There is also tent space available in the back yard and woods.  For
other hotels check the web.  Anything near exit 75 or 76, off of I-75 will
be fine.  There are plenty of hotels to choose from.

Directions to Pool From Jacksonville (North): Take 301 S from I-10.  Go
through Starke and Waldo.  Please note that the section of road between I-10
and Gainesville is notorious as being one of the worst speed traps in the
country!  If the speed limit is 35 mph don’t travel 36!  Take route 24 south
(Waldo Road) to Gainesville.  Once in Gainesville, take a right on 8th
Avenue (the numbers will go down).   Then take the first right onto NE 14th
St.  The pool is approximately 500 yards on the LHS.

Directions to Pool From South: Take I-75 N to Exit 76 (Newberry Rd.)  Head
East (right) towards Gainesville.  In approximately one mile, take a left
onto 8th Ave.  Follow 8th Ave for 5-6 miles.  You’ll pass from the NW
section of town into the NE section of town.  After Main St. the street
names will have a NE on them.  Once you pass Main St., the street numbers
will start to increase.  Take a left on NE 14th St.  The pool is
approximately 500 yards on the LHS.  If you cross Waldo Rd. (route 24) while
traveling on 8th Ave., you have gone too far.

Directions to (Chris & Amy’s): From the pool get back onto NE 14th St. and
take a right onto 8th Ave going west.  Follow 8th Ave until it ends.  Take a
right onto Newberry Rd.  Go under I-75 (exit 76) and continue west on
Newberry Rd. Take a left on NW 91st Street.  Go about a mile and then turn
right onto SW 1st place (into Fort Clark Forest).  Follow the road until the
stop sign.  Then take a right and go to the end of the court. Our house is
the brown house (second from the end on the RHS), 105 NW 99th Terrace.  Call
352-331-2740  (Cellular: 352-246-9505) if you get lost.
