US Junior National Team Tryouts

The U.S. National Juniors Team Tryouts for the 2002
Worlds competition will be on Saturday, December 29,
and Sunday, December 30, 2001, at Miami University of
Ohio, in Oxford, Ohio.
 
  To be eligible for the coed U.S. Junior National
Team, players must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age
or younger in July 2002.  (In other words, a junior
team player may not be 19 years of age on July 15,
2002.)  The U.S. Junior National Team will be coed
with no set gender ratio.  All junior U.S. men and
women are welcome and are invited and encouraged to
try out for the U.S. Junior National Team.

  All Junior team players who make the cut for the
junior team will be expected to attend the US
Nationals competition next summer to compete together
as a team and, of course, attend the Worlds Underwater
Hockey Championships in July 2002 in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada.
  All parents of junior team members are invited to
accompany their children to the tryouts.  There is
ample public seating overlooking the pool area.  The
local Roger Bacon team is planning to host a dinner
for all junior team candidates and their parents on
Saturday night.

Where:  The tryouts will be held at the Corwin M.
Nixon Aquatic Center, which is in the Recreational
Sports Center on the main campus of Miami University
of Ohio, in Oxford, Ohio.  Oxford is about 45 minutes
north of Cincinnati.

  For participants, parents, and coaches coming from
outside of Cincinnati, the closest airports are the
following:
1.)  Cincinnati--Northern Kentucky International
Airport in northern Kentucky, and the
2.)  Dayton International Airport in Dayton, Ohio.
3.)  Other airports within a 2 hour drive of the
greater Cincinnati area include the Port Columbus
International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, and the
airports in Louisville, Kentucky, and Indianapolis,
Indiana.

When:  10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 4 pm on
Sunday.

Equipment:  Players are encouraged to bring their own
equipment:  Mask, snorkle, fins, dark and white
sticks, glove, and dark and white water polo helmets.
Ear protection such as a water polo cap and a snorkle
mouthguard must be worn during the tryouts.

Housing:  Roger Bacon families can host some
out-of-town players and parents.  There are also some
hotels in Oxford, Ohio, close to campus.

USOA membership:  Players and coaches MUST be current
members of USOA.  If they have not already done so,
junior players must pay the $15 annual USOA dues and
obtain a USOA waiver and have their parent/guardian
sign it prior to attending the tryouts.
