A Poem for Paul
Here I am spread eagle on your turquoise bedspread. Run your fingers beneath
these Calvin Klein underwear. Reach for my scar burned as a baby from a Sunbeam iron.
Tongue between your toes. Reach lover, through the cracked unlock door.
Creep in from the built in porch. Tiptoe over chrysanthemums, my mama's heels kicked off after church,
past the coffee table, an archive of videos where I wait defenseless, exposed to your slender mouth.
Reach for me through the glory holes. Reach past the porcelain Siamese cats.
Careful, don't knock down the glass of watered down soda. Reach for me past the fat stacks of Playguy.
Join me on the floor of your limousine as you reach in your tuxedo pocket for a condom.
Can you see me, can you feel my fingers running through your golden blond hair like a giddy schoolgirl?

"Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me"
If I could win your heart If you'd let me in your heart I'd be so happy, baby Just for these arms to be Holding you close to me There's nothing in this world I won't try No limit to what I'd do to make you mine, 'cause
I'd climb right up to the sky I'd take down the stars Just to be in your arms, baby I'd go and capture the moon That's what I would do Just to hear you say that you love me Just to hear you say that you love me
If I could taste your kiss There'd be no sweeter gift Heaven could offer baby Oh, baby I want to be the one I want to be the one Living to give you love I'd walk across this world just to be Close to you 'cause I want you close to me, yeah
I'd climb right up to the sky I'd take down the stars Just to be in your arms, baby I'd go and capture the moon That's what I would do Just to hear you say that you love me Just to hear you say that you love me
For the rest of your life For the rest of your life Love me for the rest of all time Oh baby, baby Just say the word And I'll give you my world There's nothing I won't do Baby, just to be with you
I'd climb right up to the sky I'd take down the stars Just to be in your arms, baby I'd go and capture the moon That's what I would do Just to hear you say that you love me Just to hear you say that you love me Just to hear you say that you love me, baby Just to hear you say that you love me Oh, I need to hear you say that you love me, baby Just to hear you say that you love me Just say you love me Just say you need me
Just to hear you say that you love me

"How Do I Live"
How do I, Get through one night without you? If I had to live without you, What kind of life would that be? Oh, I need.... I need you in my arms, need you to hold, You're my world, my heart, my soul, If you ever leave, Baby you would take away everything good in my life, And tell me now How do I live without you? I want to know, How do I breathe without you? If you ever go, How do I ever, ever survive? How do I, how do I, oh how do I live? Without you, There'd be no sun in my sky, There would be no love in my life, There'd be no world left for me. And I, Baby I don't know what I would do, I'd be lost if I lost you, If you ever leave, Baby you would take away everything real in my life, And tell me now, How do I live without you? I want to know, How do I breathe without you? If you ever go, How do I ever, ever survive? How do I, how do I, oh how do I live? Please tell me baby, How do I go on? If you ever leave, Baby you would take away everything, I need you with me, Baby don't you know that you're everything, Real in my life? And tell me now, How do I live without you, I want to know, How do I breathe without you? If you ever go, How do I ever, ever survive? How do I, how do I, oh how do I live? How do I live without you? How do I live without you baby?

Memory Song For Jam Master Jay And Run Dmc
Walk This Way
backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the covers
gonna talk to you my daddy say
said you ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin
then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways
I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
oh, the times I could reminisce
cause the best things of lovin' with her sister and her cousin
only started with a little kiss
like this!
seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school
and your feet flyin' up in the air
singin' hey diddle diddle
with your kitty in the middle of the swing
like you didn't care
so I took a big chance at the high school dance
with a missy who was ready to play
wasn't me she was foolin'
cause she knew what she was doin'
and I knowed love was here to stay
when she told me to
walk this way, walk this way
walk this way, walk this way
walk this way, walk this way
walk this way, walk this way
just gimme a kiss
like this!
schoolgirl sweetie with a classy kinda sassy
little skirt's climbin' way up the knee
there was three young ladies in the school gym locker
when I noticed they was lookin' at me
I was a high school loser, never made it with a lady
till the boys told me somethin' I missed
then my next door neighbor with a daughter had a favor
so I gave her just a little kiss
like this!
seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school
and your feet flyin' up in the air
singin' hey diddle diddle
with your kitty in the middle of the swing
like you didn't care
so I took a big chance at the high school dance
with a missy who was ready to play
wasn't me she was foolin'
cause she knew what she was doin'
when she told me how to walk this way, she told me to
walk this way, talk this way
walk this way, walk this way
walk this way, walk this way
walk this way, talk this way
just gimme a kiss
like this!

Aerosmith and Britney Spears |
Run DMC's first record away from Run's brother's label, Def Jam, finds them in a new era trying to get a fresh start in a time when they haven't really been heard from in over ten years. And though that is the case, they are still taken seriously in an industry that they almost single-handedly started for artists like Limp Bizkit and others when they dueted with Aerosmith well over a decade ago.
Their legend doesn't go without notice. This album brings some of the world's biggest music masters, all from the school of Run DMC! You only have to look at someone like Kid Rock to see what I'm saying. The hate, the shoes, the beats and rhymes. Kid Rock is one part Lynard Skynard and another part Run DMC. He shows up for "The School Of Old". Then there's the other man who owes it all to Run DMC, Limp Bizkit's frontman Fred Durst, who offers his take on "Them Girls".
"Rock Show" finds Run getting off just like he did way back when on "King Of Rock". It brings back a lot of memories, especially about where hip-hop was in those days and where it has gone since. I think we need more Run DMC than we may even know. "Ayi Papi" boasts a tight hook with Fat Joe dropping his taste of history.
"Crown Royal" is the only track that brings the kings together as one. The beats sound new as Jam Master Jay still knows how to spin beats that are the corner-piece the lyrical puzzle. Though this is no King Of Rock or Raising Hell, it is still a fun album. We've seen Run DMC attempt the comeback a few times before but they tried to change who they were and that just never worked. Now they are happy with bringing it all out of the box just the way they did fifteen years ago.

That's what I thought And if somebody want to test mine, yo watch this: Peter Piper picked pepper: See, I knew you knew the next line, and I bet you said it Just spend a minute, I'm still the king of the world So don't forget it:

Run-DMC DJ slain in recording studio
Jam Master Jay, the DJ of the longtime rap group Run-DMC, was shot in the head and killed on Oct.30,2002 Wednesday night in a Queens recording studio, according to New York police.
Another man, Urieco Rinco, 25, was shot in the leg and taken to a local hospital, police said.
Police are investigating the shooting, which took place inside a studio on Merrick Boulevard about 7:30 p.m.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Jam Master Jay was born January 21,1965, as Jason Mizell in the middle-class Hollis neighborhood of Queens, New York, according to the group's Web site. He linked up with Run (Joseph Simmons) and D.M.C. (Darryl McDaniels) -- also from Hollis -- scratching turntables for the two rappers who had just graduated from high school.
A year later, in 1983, the group released its first single, "It's Like That" with a B-side, "Sucker MC's," which spawned a phrase used in rap songs decades later.
Known for their loose Adidas-brand shoes and thumping beats, the trio is credited with beginning the current trend of combining rap music and rock 'n' roll in their hit remake of Aerosmith's "Walk this Way" in 1986, teaming up with the band's lead singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry.
The shooting death was met with shock by the group's fans who likened Run-DMC to the "Beatles" of rap music.
"May Jay remains an inspiration for us all -- a man with vision, creativity, generosity, and talent, one who condemned and spoke against violence, and was taken away from us, and his family, far too soon," one fan posted on the group's Web site.
News of Mizell's death evoked memories of the shooting deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. in the late 1990s.
Unlike other rap artists whose lyrics glorified gangsters and "thug life," Run-DMC tried to distance itself from that image.
"They say we're putting out bad messages to the kids," Run told "Rolling Stone" in a 1986 interview, in response to violent outbursts at several of the group's concerts. "Our image is clean, man. Kids beat each other's heads every day. They are fighting because they were fighting before I was born ... we're role models."
Several of Run-DMC's songs boast about Jam Master Jay's DJ skills, including "Jam Master Jammin'" on the group's 1985 album, "King of Rock":
He has a little soul, to rock n' roll
Every record that he touches turns to gold
He's well conducted, self-instructed
His styles were plied, heavily constructed
Mechanically inclined, and if you don't mind
We add spice to your life, time after time
And think about times, where he's a long laster
We rock our rhymes for the Jam-Master
J-a-y are the letters of his name/ Cutting and scratching are the aspects of his game/ So check out the Master as he cuts these jams..."
Remembering Jam Master Jay Gangster RapThug Rapper..Bling-Bling..keeping it jiggyNONE of these were Jam Master Jay. He was pure hip-hop. He was a phenomenon in the rap game. With the introduction of hip-hop, he made the DJ a critical part of any rap group to come, appointing him equal and as famous as the frontman rappers.
He was one of the forefathers of the game, as we know it today. His acclaim came early in his DJ career with the HUGELY successful RUN-DMC. Who could forget the ever so simple emblem with the name of the group, so symmetric, stacked vertically and encased by two horizontal bars; their logo emblazoned everything from posters to t-shirts and baseball caps. OK, so thats only three things, but back then, at the beginning of their careers, that shit was huge, big, monstrous.
Early Days To sell out stadiums was one thing, then to have guys hawking bootleg t-shirts outside of a RAP concert was just, just, unbelievable. And I was right in the middle of it. Shooooot, I can feel the Top Tens on my feet and bamboo earrings in my ears now. Disobeying my moms orders to be home at 9p, I caught Septa subway all the way to South Philly to the Spectrum to see RUN DMC. I got there just in time too. The Beastie Boys were coming off stage, while the main act entered! wooooooooo-booooy..That was the life! I think I went to like every concert in Philly, seriously. there was nothing like that rush. L.L, Whodini, New Edition, ..ok..I m getting off track. Anyway..
From that miniscule feat (it might seem to some now) of seeing a vision and having a simple stamp of approval naming them, to full circle with MOS DEFs last album, recycling the postmark of the group who was the harbinger of a rap group, meaning emcee plus DJ, tells us that these 3 guys made a hell of an imprint on our psyches. Like Coca-Cola, it was a brand we knew.
With beat-making and producing gaining more notoriety in the past few years (over the 90s) JMJ definitely should garner kudos and reverence from all those in the game now. He made that position a POSITION. For Pete Rock, Eric B., and now Swizz Beats, DJ Clue, FunkMasterFlex, and countless others. Just as Puffy made the position of A & R a coveted place to be in a record label, so JMJ did for the DJ in a group.
RUN-DMC Albums: 1. RUN-DMC 2. King of Rock 3. Raising Hell 4. Tougher Than Leather 5. Back from Hell 6. Together Forever 7. Down with the King 8. Greatest Hits 9. Crown Royal
His Impact When someone like this is lost, its almost like the passing of a guard. This person represents the ushering in of a lifestyle that is one of the 4 fundamentals of hip hop. Using records to create sounds of The 80s; something that was created in OUR generation, Gen xthe so called slacker yearsis his legacy. Its comparable to losing the person who showed us how to use something that we already had: for instance, when you see a powerful actor or riveting performance. You know the craft has been there before, or the tools were available, but no one introduced it to you in quite that way. Or from another perspective, a person in an organization who was there when you became part of it...i.e. the founder of a fraternity or a sorority, the leader of a movement, the point person in a revolutionhe was all of that to his audience, and Im sure, much more to his family, friends, and colleagues.
We used the song "It's Like That," on indie label Profile, when I was in the McDonalds doubledutch contest (in which we won 2nd place, I might add:-) It was the HUH at the end of the hook, that we ended on by striking a spectacular pose!
Its a song that is defining in my young life because it just brings back memories of hanging with my mom, my aunt, my cousins, etc. By myself I tied the double dutch rope to the banister on the steps and jumped, but practicing for the contest we had a routine. We all sang it, practiced and danced around to it in Jumbo Alley (on Arizona St. in North Philly)..Aaaaaaaah..the good times. Dont you remember stuff like that? Many of us have songs that Jay created, recorded by Run-DMC, that are poignant for us. Maybe it was when you met that girl at the roller skating rink, you might remember your first time on stage when you battled that group in break dancing at the talent show in Jr. high, or when you first learned how to do graffiti with a spray paint can you had a JMJ song playing on your big boom box radio on that summer day at the ice-cream store, etc.Its just the music of our lives.. .a sonic timeline of youthful inexperience.
Memories "Run-D.M.C. represented everything good and positive about hip-hop," said their longtime producer Russell Simmons. "Jam Master Jay was a longtime family man and one of the founders of the group that knocked down all of the doors for hip-hop."
RUN-DMC was the rap group that started corporate America taking notice, because they were the first rappers to:
get a gold plaque earn a platinum album have video on MTV
What else is there to say? The man will go down in history. And rightly so.
Jay's like King Midas, as I was told, everything that he touched turned to gold. He's the greatest of the great, get it straight he's great. Claim fame cause his name is known in every state. His name is Jay to see him play will make you say: "God damn, that DJ made my day!"

Kid Rock's trash-talking little buddy is gone.
Joseph Calleja, Rock's pint-sized rapping sidekick, best known to the world as Joe C., died in his sleep Thursday night at his home in Taylor, Michigan, Atlantic Records said in a statement. He was 26.
Joe C., who made his recording debut on Rock's 1998 multiplatinum disc, Devil Without a Cause, suffered since childhood from an intestinal disorder called Celiac disease, which ultimately prevented him from growing past 3 feet, 9 inches tall--as he proudly proclaimed in one of his raps.

"Family and friends are everything; without them, all of the fame and fortune means nothing," Kid Rock said in a statement Friday. "We have lost a part of our family. Joey gave us and the world his love. He brought a smile to everyone who has ever known or seen him.
"In a world full of confusion," Rock added, "Joey made all of us laugh. No matter what color, religion, race, or beliefs we have, he made us all smile. He gave us the gift of joy. Joey, thank you. We will never forget you. We love you."
Joe C. joined Rock's Twisted Brown Trucker band in 1994, and since then had become a signature member of the group's whacked-out, colorful live shows. He helped boost Rock to worldwide stardom in 1998, and he later appeared in Rock's "Cowboy" video (facing off with Gary Coleman), had his animated likeness appear on an episode of The Simpsons and once played Jerry Lee Lewis's young bride on an episode of Saturday Night Live.
The rapper also contributed a solo version of "Kyle's Mom's a Big Fat Bitch" for last year's South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut soundtrack. Prior to his death, Joe C. reportedly was working on a solo album.
Despite his contributions to the live shows, Joe C.'s battle with celiac disease forced him to leave Kid Rock's tour in November 1999. He did, however, make a brief return to the road for several dates on this year's Summer Sanitarium tour, featuring Rock, Metallica and Korn.
Jason Flom president of Rock's label, Lava Records, said in a statement: "Joe C. was an extraordinary inspiration. He overcame tremendous adversity to become a great performer and a truly wonderful human being.
"Despite living with chronic pain, Joe C. never let his condition prevent him from living life to the fullest and brightening the lives of everyone who knew him, on or off the stage. He was a deeply loved member of our extended family and we will all miss him greatly."

"Only God Knows Why"
I've been sittin here Tryin to find myself I get behind myself I need to rewind myself Lookin for the payback Listen for the playback They say that every man bleeds just like me And I feel like number one Yet I'm last in line I watch my youngest son And it helps to pass the time I take too many pills it helps to ease the pain I made a couple of dollar bills, but still I feel the same Everybody knows my name They say it way out loud A lot of folks fuck with me It's hard to hang out in crowds I guess that's the price you pay To be some big shot like I am Out strecthed hands and one night stands Still I can't find love
And when your walls come tumbling down I will always be around
Yeah As it...hey
And when your walls come tumbling down I will always be around
People don't know about the things I say and do They don't understand about the shit that I've been through It's been so long since I've been home I've been gone, I've been gone for way too long Maybe I forgot all things I miss Oh somehow I know there's more to life than this I said it too many times And I still stand firm You get what you put in And people get what they deserve Still I ain't seen mine No I ain't seen mine I've been giving just ain't been gettin I've been walking that there line So I think I'll keep a walking With my head held high I'll keep moving on and only God knows why
Only God Only God Only God knows why, why, why, why Only God...knows...why, why, why Only God knows why Take me to the river edge Take me to the river, hey hey hey
