My Studio on a sunny day

This little place actually gets all kinds of light during the long summer days

Afternoon sunlight in the kitchen

I never get tired of the light on the town at this time of year. It's just gorgeous.

Tommy and Mari Spent a Fun Easter over at Tommy and Mari's Place. We were asked to dress in our finest Spring attire for the event.

Phyllis was definately the Belle of the Ball. She suprised me with tickets to one of the movies showing with the SF film festival. Phyllis

Sherri and Richard beg the question: How can you possibly become more fashionably desheveled?

richard having too much fun

We ate a huge pot luck buffet and drank a lot of wine. Everyone started posing and playing for the camera. Then we went onto the roof to watch the sun set.

The threat of hot weather got me to the How Weird St. fair before 1:00pm. Dreadfully early as far as the crowd went. The speaker stages weren't even set up. But there were two sound systems at each side of the block, inspiring waves of dancing by what people were there.

CCC warehouse art space The second annual How Weird Street Fair (2001: a street oddity) was put on by The Consortium of Collective Consciousness (CCC) artist warehouse space. The CCC was founded in February 1995 as an experiment in communal and creative living, and is home to the non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization (WPTTO). As well as writers, artists and musicians.

The landlord, taking advantage of the housing situation, attempted to increase the CCC's rent by nearly 300%, making the space financially unavailable. After a year of drawn-out legal battles, the CCC closed its doors on May 31, 2001; ending over six years of amazing music, art, and events.
Dozens of organizations, hundreds of art and music groups, and thousands of individuals have lost their space in San Francisco during the last two years, as a result of the economic boom. The fair was a way to pay tribute to all who have lost their home….as well as to all the other spaces, organizations, and individuals who help make San Francisco the creative and diverse place that we love, and want to keep. techno monster invades town

Tombstones bearing the names of displaced organizations were set up cemetery style in front of the CCC building. Fairgoers were encouraged to leave candles or flowers by their favorite ones.

Kenni Kenni

My friend Josh plays base for this woman named Kenni. She's pictured second from the left in both photos. They played at the Hotel Utah on May 31. It was a good show that was well attended for starting so late.

missed the band's name

Kenni's friends were good, too. They played in a band that did a benefit at the Paradise on June 1st.

Crosstops took the stage first

Indicators point down

Corporate rock

Crosstops and 401k did a blue-collar white-collar show at the Covered wagon.

(left from top) Crosstops took the stage first. Then members of 401k invaded the set with a chart showing trends that favored white-collar rock. They moved in on the stage until a crowd protest put the Crosstops back up front. Not to be outdone, 401k tried to distract the band with trashy women, who were actually guys in drag. In the ensuing argument the two groups found common ground in their music, and their dislike of hippies.

Can't we all just get along

Those supicious minds

This led to both bands coming together and finishing the night covering Niel Diamond's "Suspicious Minds".

F-Hole

Jason on drums

Pat on f-hole guitar

F-Hole has been playing around lately and not sounding too bad. They've been practicing pretty regular in spite of Jason living so far up north now. Here they are at Bottom of the Hill, I can't remember the lineup.

Angel had a cd release party for her band, Venus Bleeding, at The Bottom of the Hill. What a fun band! I had never seen her perform before and was way blown away by the whole band's ability to keep up the raging intensity through the whole set. I'm sure a copy of her cd 'Fakelore' is available at Amobea Records, because she works at the Berkeley outlet.

Redneck Whitetrash Blueball

How do you get people to come to your shows? Hire Strippers!

Crosstops headlined the 'Redneck Whitetrash Blueball' at the Paradise, and that's just what they did. The show did not disappoint the expectations of the standing-room only crowd. Holy Assasins shared the bill, all the photos are spread over several pages. Kids, if you're offended by naked women don't look here.

More social Scene....

toy car

Saw this car parked next to a daisy bush on my way to the How Weird St. fair, thought I'd get a couple pics of it. The colors looked fresh in the morning sun.

toy hood

I liked all the toys on the roof.

easy rock balancing

I was at Crissy Field taking some pictures of skateblocks that had been installed on the plaza areas when I snapped these pics.

It's common for the beach combers to make sculptures using rocks and other beach debris that wash up on shore.

The DeYoung museum closed it's doors in December but not before opening the place to the public for 36 hours straight. The usual fees were dropped and they even allowed photography in all but the light sensitive exhibits.

Village totem, New Guinea

Village elder, New Guinea. The skull of the village elder is encased in this holder and is kept in order to consult with on local matters.

DeliahlaThe Hunter

I went at about 10 pm on a Saturday night and found the place to be comfortably full and easy to navigate.

Fountain Cherubs

The only critique is that the cafeteria ran out of food and wine before midnight, guess they didn't anticipate the crowds.

Tiffany lamp

I got the pictures of our visit with our cousins the Janer's. Some of them are scanned and posted. I guess Mark and Matt(?) made it to the Chinese New Year Parade last Saturday. Jack met up with them for dinner afterwards. I got waylaid at a party for Josh, who just turned 27, and missed the meal. We'll have to try to get together again soon.

Dustin and Erynn

And Peg sent me some pics of Erynn and Alissa that I put up.

The rowing team

Alissa is the second rower from behind in that rowing picture. And the one's that it links to. She's having fun in school and that's good to hear.

I'm still waiting for those Trojan kids to weigh in. Hey, send some pics so I can post them!

Wanted: Jon Trojan

Here, I'll put this school photo of Jon up to inspire him to send me a better one of him. Julie is probably thinking 'One more good reason to be home schooled…'

The AIDS benefit at King St. Garage went off real well. All the usual suspects showed up and everyone had a good time.

East Bay Chasers

This was my first chance to see the East Bay Chasers. I didn't get the name of the front guy but he wailed every tune.

backup singers

The $10 dollar price included a lunch buffet and all the beer you could drink. I haven't seen a better deal around this town in years.

Brian, Heather, Jack and Evan.

I left before it ended to get to a dinner party that Lisa put together for Heather and Brian and about 10 of Heather's closest friends. They're in town for a few days to attend a work seminar and introduce us to Evan, their new baby boy. He's a little cutie alright. Jack got along with him great. We all ate at Viva, an estatablished Itialian restaraunt in North Beach with great food and huge portions.

Evan and Mo

Jack left to drive his cab after dinner, the rest of the party dropped the kids at the room (thanks for watching them, Mo) and headed to the Fairmont for after dinner drinks. There was no way to make it to Naughty Santa's Black market Faire, which I'm sure retained it's underground edge this year in spite of the (comparitively) heavey publicity it got. While wandering off the hill from the Fairmont I did manage to stop at the Owl Tree, a cozy little lounge at Post and Taylor Sts. Mr. bob, a nice old gentleman, owns the place and was serving up drinks that night. Usually he's sitting at the bar while one of his nephews pours for the crowd.

Beverly

Beverly came by to say hi and look at some of the pictures that I shot at her birthday party. It had a fun fondue theme. There were bite sized bits of bread, veggies, and fruits to dip into melted cheese or chocolate. We made tempura, too. She offered to frame a poster for me for my birthday...thanks Beverly, you're a sweetie.

Pete, Sunrise, and Jim Pete and his band, Just Passin Thru, played in North Beach for the last time in July. Pete is going away to Los Angeles so I'll finally have someone to go bother down there! Sarah put a great going away party for him at the Ritespot...Some of the pictures came out good enough to post. Bye Pete, don't forget your friends up north...

F-Hole at the Tempest
Congratulations Pat, good old friend and founder of F-Hole for his marriage to his sweetie, Cat. Plans for the wedding and party shaped into a bi-coastal affair with parties for them in New York and here in the City.

The bachelor party for Pat was a gas! Can't get into the details, 'tis the nature of the event! After the wedding in New York there was a reception at the Peacock Lounge in the Haight. I have pictures and will post them, they're in my huge inbox pile....

And speaking of weddings, congratulations to Steve and Jules, who tied the knot over in San Rafael on July 3 of this year. Beautiful wedding! The reception was held at the S.R. Elks club....LuLu's catered the party and Just Passin Thru provided the music. Everything worked together perfectly. As of this writing (Dec 6) all the best to the bride, groom, and baby to be..

And of course all the best to Ann and Josh, who exchanged their wedding vows on Mt. Tam ealier in June. Was that gorgeous, too! Way up above the clouds, with the evening sun casting spectacular light and shadow. The reception was on Mt. Tam in a lodge along the road. Beautiful! And what fun to see everyone from Walter St. again!

Mo and Deb

Mo's big 3-0 birthday party was in the Daliah garden of Golden Gate Park earlier in July. Natalie was down for the weekend, we went to the party together. There was a bar-b-que and a vollyball net. Yea, Mo! It was lots of fun. Sorry for being so lame as to not post even one photo of the event before Jack took them all back to his place!
