所謂「基督教國家」只是一個標籤，是把美國國策都算作基督徒罪行的方便說法。 ^_^ 可是能不能單單因為基督教不是美國的國教就否定這個說法呢？我看不行。請大家先看以下事實。
美國的硬幣、紙幣上都印有 IN GOD WE TRUST 字樣。
美國的獨立宣言有這樣的話：
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
入籍宣誓效忠的文字是這樣的：
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
美國國歌有這樣的一段：
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
不過，相信大家也不會以為每一個美國人和入籍美國的人都是基督徒吧。 ^_^
我認為比較接近事實的情況是這樣的：基督教文化一直都是西方精神文明的主要部份，而早期創造美國歷史的人物，也大都是基督徒。不過那時候的基督徒作了一個很聰明的選擇。他們從政教合一的黑暗歷 史中吸取了教訓，在憲法中明文規定政教分離，免得基督教會在新大陸上再一次腐敗，而危害人民的自由。
因此第一修正案是這樣寫的：
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
其目的是保障宗教自由，同時禁止政府建立或摧毀任何宗教。
可以肯定的是，美國立國初期大部份是基督徒。而到今時今日，宣稱自己是基督徒的美國人仍然佔大多數。雖然基督教從來不是美國的國教，以人數來算的話，算是「基督教國家」也算是合理的。但是美國 的國策是否反映基督徒的思想？大家都會思考，留待各位自己想想。
可以告訴大家的是，如果美國人會看我們的新聞組，一定會覺得很幽默。因為在美國，是基要派基督徒堅持美國是「基督教國家」，而反基則堅持不是，並希望透過政治途徑把有宗教色彩的事物從日常生活 中消滅，例如更改以上所有跟神有關的字眼，處罰在公司、學校裡禱告或放置聖經的人。
還有，美國的反基人士是支持克林頓的，因為他不是「一般」基督徒，是支持墮胎、同性戀的。反而是基要派基督徒，從他競選的時候已經說他不是「真正」的基督徒，不是最近發生了戰爭以後才說的。至於性醜聞的時候，禱告的大都是為美國的道德水平，以及總統本人早日悔改、下台。
我們的討論要停留在「標籤」的爭執，還是放下成見，開闊眼界，了解事情的不同角度？
