Karen
Cassidy has a wide range of talents and interest, ranging from photography to
costume design, from science to music. By the age of 16 she had spent 8 years
studying each concert piano and violin; by age 30 had completed a PhD in
Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. In 2001 she became actively involved
with photography and studied privately with photographer James Balodimas. Karen
exhibited photographs in several Chicago art galleries, and opened Blue Velvet
Studio 2002 in Chicago’s Wicker Park art district with open house during the
Around the Coyote art festivals. These exhibits included Karen’s photography
and also artwork by other photographers, painters, sculptors, with occasional
film shorts and live bands. She reopened Blue Velvet Studio in April 2009 in
downtown Mobile, AL.
