Most
would not realize the
physical challenges Ardith has had to overcome throughout the
past years to simply walk and breathe, but she has never been one to shy away
from a challenge, and choosing optimism in the face of pain is a way of life
for her. Ardith’s approach to art is no different. Completely self-taught, she
left a vibrant teaching career to face some enormous medical hurdles and in the
process of recovery and healing she became a VSA artist, which is an
international program for artists with disabilities.
Her art
is whimsical,
unique, and always colorful. Ardith is a colorist.
She boldly stretches the boundaries of where color should be and seeks to
spread joyful light through that color.
Watercolor and acrylics are her favorite mediums although she is known
for her mixed media collage characters as well. Her work catches the eye of
folks but it is the stories behind each piece that draw them in, and the
challenges she faces trying to paint with a body that is riddled with pain.
Through the sharing, her artwork has evolved into a source of inspiration and
hope.
“My
journey did not take me
into a world of formal art education. Instead, it took me down a path full of
challenges, heartbreak, imagination, and triumphs all intertwined with abundant
optimism. That has led me to
become an ordinary person who chooses to create colorful, inspirational art
while living an extraordinary life, so for me, art is simply an expression of a
beautiful life.” |
