BVS is pleased to announce that Ashelea Penquite
will be hosting her third annual Vessel exhibit at Blue Velvet Studio in September.
The theme of the exhibit is androgyny,
creating art from a place residing in things bigger than the self and of sexuality. The exhibit displays 40 works of art from
40 artists in a multitude of styles and media.
This art is a tribute to Hatshepsut, the fifth pharaoh of the
18th dynasty of Ancient Egypt. She ruled for over 20 prosperous
years as an androgynous figure, promoted the arts and music during the height of Egypt’s cultural growth and artistic
movement, and commissioned hundreds of construction projects. The event is also a benefit for Penelope House, a shelter for
victims of domestic violence in Mobile.
Artists include Nikki Burkett, Karen Cassidy, Sol Davis, Nathan Deakle, Zach
DePolo, Randa Duhon, McKenzie Forbes, April Hopkins, Ryan Jetten, Kate Merrill, Kristin C. Murphree, Ashelea Penquite, Brandon
Reneman, Rosie Roe, Amanda Solley, John Ross Thomas, and many others
In October the art on exhibit will move to Serda’s
Coffee Company on Royal street.
Blue Velvet Studio is at 709 Dauphin Street #2, Mobile, AL 36602. Call for more
info 850-375-4481. The event is from 6-9pm on Friday Sept 9th.
