I just got a job for InStyle magazine creating paper leaf bachgrounds for a jewelery store. It will apear in this August in their special issue"The Look". One of my book proposals was just accepted by a publisher, so I will be creating and writing a book on teaching kids how to crochet. It is scheduled for release in May 2005.
Shephanie Schreier
![]() After BHS I followed the typical West Island route and went to John Abbott and then Concordia, where I graduated in 1993 with a BA in Spanish translation and Psychology. After graduation I took off to Europe for 6 months and went pretty much everywhere, including Iceland, which is incredibly beautiful. I spent the next few years jumping from job to job, not really sure what I wanted to do, and travelled to South America and back to Europe. In July of 1996 everything started to fall into place. I went to Toronto for Shaila Zaman's wedding, and met Brad. He was their best man. After 6 months of the long distance thing, I decided to move to Toronto, and haven't looked back since. We have been married since October 1998 and have a townhouse right downtown. We have no children yet, as Brad has decided to go back to school to become a teacher. I also went back to school and got my CHRM, (Certificate in Human Resource Management) and am currently working as a Compensation & Benefits specialist at Siemens Canada.
I still keep in touch with quite a few ex-BHSers and look forward to seeing everyone at next years reunion.
Li Shen
It is believed that Li moved to Seattle where she married and had a Daughter. She is currently working as an accountant.
Avi Shtevi
Following 7 years in Israel Avi decided to resume his studies and moved to Townsville Australia where he is in his third and hopefully final year of his PhD in molecular biology. He is currently looking for a postdoc position in the US. Wish him luck! Oh, yeah, he divorced in 2001 and remarried in 2005 and had a son Egoz Shtevi, born last year.
Greg Sinclair
![]() Greg works in the IT industry and lives in Burlington, Ontario with his wife and their 2 children
Michael Smith
![]() The past 15 years in a nutshell. Graduated from university (Concordia), began my career (Pfizer), got married (8 years now with my wife Julie), had my first child (Fletcher age 6), had my second (Spencer age 4), had my third (Sierra age 3), moved to Toronto (spent 18 months in traffic on the 401), moved back to Montreal (swearing never to return to Toronto). Now living in St-Lazare and marketing VIAGRA for Pfizer Canada. See you in May 2003.
Hooman Simyar
I went to JAC, then to Concordia, then moving to University of Hawaii -- Then dental school in Temple University in Philadelphia, moving to Phoenix to work as a dentist. Beyond dentistry, I became successful in other businesses, and grew from there. Still single, no kids, mostly because I've been a total workaholic... trying to slow down now. My biggest vice is cars, racing, 'supercars' as they call them.
Christina Tsien
![]() It sounds like Christina has done very well for herself. After graduating form McGill Medical School she moved to Ann-Arbor Michigan where she is a distinguished radiation oncologist and researcher/lecturer.
Gerard Velcelean
![]() After BHS I went to John Abbott and then on to Concordia University. Unfortunately, my Poli Sci degree hasn't come in very handy since I work in the high tech industry. I am a Global Marketing Manager and can't wait for my stock options to be worth something again!! I now live in Northern California and have for the past 6 years. I am married with three children. Conner is 2 years old and the twins, Mya and Ella are 6 months old.
Mathew Westphal
![]() I did one year of health sciences at Abbott, and then went to the University of Waterloo to take Electrical Engineering. Why? Looking back, I'm not sure, becasue I certainly didn't have any particular technical inclination. I spent an unhappy year in that programme, and then transferred to the University of Victoria. I did a B.A. in History there, and then an M.A. in History at the University of Toronto. I decided I didn't want to go on for a Ph.D, so while I figured out what to do, I worked for a year in the security department of Unitel Communications (now AT&T Cananda) in Toronto. I moved to Vancouver in 1996 and did a law degree at UBC.
After finishing law school in 1999, I worked for a summer in the mergers and acquisitions group of a big law firm in New York. I then moved to Ottawa where I spent a year working at the Supreme Court of Canada as a law clerk to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. During my year at the court, I decided I didn't want to go back to the U.S., and wound up coming back to Vancouver. Most of my family is out here, and B.C. feels like home now.
Recently I spent a year teaching at UBC law school then returned to legal practice at a litigation firm. I
Got divorced over 3 years ago and am now in a long-term relationship. IStill have all my hair; and
Have just bought a house.
Shaila Zeman
![]() I graduated from John Abbott in 1990 and went to Western. I received my M.A. while working as a teacher's Assistant at Western which was great. I met my husband Doug at Western while in Grad school and we both moved to Toronto in 1994. He went to teacher's college and has been teaching for about 7 years. I started working in marketing in the toy industry (what better than playing with Nerf and Lego all day long!!). I eventually moved to Gillette (you know, "the best a man can get") and was working as an Associate Marketing Manager there. But now everything's on hold for little 7 month old Jake. I'm really loving maternity leave and Jake is so much fun. I still play soccer and ski in the great hills of Ontario (not quite - the hills I used to tobaggan on as a child seem bigger than the ski hills aroung here!).
