Josh Corke and Sergio Avila captured their first tournament championships of the year to help the Bears place 4th at the Connell Invite. The Connell Eagles took the team championship in the 16 team tournament. The Bears and the Eagles finished ahead of three other CWAC teams: Ephrata, Naches and Chelan.

It was the 12th career championship for Avila and the 3rd for Corke. Brandon Ashley almost picked up his first, as he was leading his man 6-1 in the 2nd round in the final. He started in the down position in the 2nd, and his opponent from Warden managed to win the match with a pin. Cody had a good tournament with 2 pins and made it to the finals, but was pinned and took 2nd.

Kevin Hunter had the fastest pin with a 7 second job. Other sub minute pins were turned in by Kyle Nickerson (58 sec) and Daniel Ayers (43 sec). Ayers won two matches both by pin.

Josh Corriel made a good showing against the 2001 171 pound state champ, Brandon Hern. He held his own in a 9-4 loss. Jose Gonazalez had a couple of big wins, 18-6 and 15-0. Justin Mack wrestled a couple of OT's, winning 2-0 and 7-5 on takedowns in each match.

Corke is 5-0 and Avila is 6-0 on the year. They will take their undefeated records to East Valley for a dual, before coming home to defend their titles at the Ki-Be Invite. The Bears lost the Team title to Ephrata last season after winning it in 1999 and 2000. They look ready to reclaim the title this year.
