Vison Recording Studio

Lots of you have asked about the studio that I used to work at, so here are a few photos and statistics about Vision Recording Studio.

Vision Studio is located at 50 Elm St. North in Timmins, Ontario (that's way up north for 99.5% of you)Just down the street from College Boreal. Timmins is primarily a mining town, gold being the main mineral here.  Though it has few other things to boast as about as well. Such as being the home of Shania Twain, and Paul Bellini (of this hour has 22 minutes) and being the largest municipality in Canada. (Though most of that is bush - forest to those from the states) Timmins claims to be "The City with a Heart of Gold" and truly welcomes visitors, anglers and hunters.

OK, enough about Timmins, you came here to learn about Vision Recording Studio............

Vision Recording Studio is owned by Dan Boileau, and is what most of us call a project studio... While some things here are quite advanced compared to most project studio we are utilizing a recording format that is still considered a "project format" ADAT.... Though to be honest a lot of nice movie and TV soundtracks are recorded on Adat as well as some hit albums. One of the reasons we decided to keep ourselves a project studio is price factor. We added the goodies where they would help our clients the most without driving the price of studio time up. With a base rate of only $45.00 per hour in CDN funds - that equals about $30.00 U.S. So as you can see we are an affordable studio....

Now, what sets us apart from most project studios? A couple of things, #1 is the console. We didn't scrimp there at all. Vision Studio boasts a Soundcraft TS-12. With 32 channels on a 24 track mainframe, the TS-12 is a 12 buss large format console, 6, auxiliaries, and a full featured effects return section, complete with eq., faders, low end roll off and assignable to any of the 12 busses, or other auxiliaries... Our TS-12 also has a full patch bay on-board. There are a lot of nice features to the console, but the feature that is most important of all - It Sounds Great !.......

Vision  has a bit of outboard electronics also, including, Lexicon, Alesis, Aphex, Orban and Rane. Our microphone selection includes AKG, Shure, Neuman, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, and EV.... We even have a couple of vintage mics for those occasions when you want a true 'Retro" sound.....

Another thing that sets us apart from most project studios is size... And by that I mean space to stretch out and work... Our main recording room is 26' x 40' with two very large isolation booths 14' x 20' and a good size control room and a small lounge.... You never get that closed up feeling at Vision.....

We have some interesting clientele at Vision and handle a wide assortment of audio production chores, but we are primarily a music production facility. In the last year we have produced demos, albums, radio commercials, and even a network radio show.....

Here is a nice shot of John Emms... Sitting at the console in our new facility...

John Emms
John Emms is a regular at Vision as he is a prolific songwriter who writes a variety of styles, but mostly in the pop and soft rock vein... John is very creative and always fun to work with.  John Also writes a music review column for our local paper the Daily Press.

Thanks to the Timmins Daily Press for the photo.......
