Sigrid finished her Ph.D. Easter 1998, and funding came through which made it possible to spend 11 months in Australia, which was an opportunity we couldn't say no to. Knut quit his job (as he didn't get unpaid leave after 23 years of service in SAS), we rented out the house, sold the car, packed out 8 suitcases and on the 29th of July 1998 a happily excited family left Norway en route to Melbourne.

Early in the morning on the 31. July a jet lagged family was picked up at the airport by Prof. Julian Rood from Monash University, and our adventure started.....
