Final results after all tests - HUKM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Director of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) Prof Datuk Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir said today the hospital can only give a report or arrive at a final decision on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's poisoning case after all laboratory tests had come in.

"What I have said so far is that we still do not know the results of all the tests and we are still waiting for the complete outcome of laboratory tests before issuing any statement or arriving at a final decision," he said in a statement.

He was commenting on reports in two Bahasa Malaysia dailies today saying that there were no signs of arsenic poisoning in Anwar following tests conducted by the HUKM.

One of the newspapers quoted Dr Khalid as saying that preliminary investigations by the HUKM found no clear signs of arsenic poisoning in Anwar. Dr Khalid said he never said that. He also denied receiving any lab test results that showed no clear sign of arsenic poisoning as reported by the newspapers.

Dr Khalid said however that the HUKM was not denying that it had received some results from lab tests but these were not conclusive and could not be a basis or provide strong evidence to make a final decision possible.

"Hence it is wrong for the relevant media to conclude that preliminary test results are enough to prove that Anwar did not have poisoning," he said.

He said the two newspapers Utusan Melaysia and Berita Harian had "sensationalised their headlines which were not at all accurate." He also said various allegations and assumptions had been made to the effect that the HUKM deliberately delayed the tests and also delayed the trial from resuming.

"This is not the case as the HUKM had acted professionally in its efforts to get strong proof before arriving at a final conclusion," he added. --BERNAMA
