A Story of Public Housing, a work in progress, is a one hour documentary on the history of public housing in America. SPH traces the history of public housing from its origins as a program designed to stimulate the economy and provide a transitional solution to families struggling out of the depression to its current status as a program portrayed as contributing to a cycle of seemingly hopeless poverty for the urban poor. The film examines the persistent divisions among races, genders and classes that have contributed to urban poverty and opposition to public housing.

SPH gives a balanced look at public housing, while examining a critical part of American history. It illuminates the myths of public housing and underscores the importance of history to understanding contemporary society.
