On October 10^th, 1849, he married, at Perry, Ohio, Amelia C. French, and they moved to Painesville, Ohio, in 1852, where he entered the law office of judge Bissel, as a student. He was admitted to the bar in 1854.

Mr. Williams practiced law in Painesville until 1861 when he enlisted in the Union Army and was made a second lieutenant of Company D, Seventh Regiment O. V. I. Leaving Camp Taylor in Cleveland early in May, he went to Camp Dennison, near Cincinnati, and there enlisted again for three years, and accompanied his regiment on the severe marches from Clarksburg to Gauley Bridge, Virginia, when he was compelled to resign his commission in September, 1861, under the surgeon’s certificate of disability. He then returned home.

He was elected assistant clerk in the Ohio House of Representatives in the fifty-fifth General Assembly. In June, 1863, he accepted a clerkship under Maj, W. S. Kennon, paymaster of the Army, and served in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee until September, 1865. Then he returned to Painesville, and in May, 1866, moved with his family to Macon, Missouri, where he engaged in an extensive practice in the State and Federal courts. In December of 1878 returned to Ohio, and on January 1, 1879, settled in Cleveland, where he resided until his death.

In 1883 he was elected State Senator from Cuyahoga County, being the first Democratic Senator for thirty years. In 1885 Mr. Williams was admitted to practice as an attorney before the Supreme Court of the United States. He was United States Commissioner for eight years, and was chairman of the executive committee of the Early Settlers’ Association of Cuyahoga County. He lad been a Royal Arch Mason since 1858, and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the Ohio Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States.

George L. Wood was born in Chardon, Ohio, in 1837, and was educated in common schools. In his early manhood he studied law in Warren and became the first mayor of that now beautiful and wealthy county seat.

He enlisted under the first call for troops and what was then known as company A, of Warren, which entered Camp Taylor, April 26th, 1861, and became Company H of the Seventh Regiment. He was commissioned first lieutenant in the company and served their until November 25^th, 1861, when he was promoted to Captain of company, from which he was honorably discharged, November 10^th, 1862, on account of disability from a severe wound received in battle at Port Republic, Va., June 9^th, 1862. Became Major of the 125^th Ohio Infantry, on September 16^th, 1862, and was discharged on April 20^th, 1863. Participated in the battles of Winchester and Port Republic, Virginia.

He was married on October 9^th, 1862, to Miss Jane B. Todd, of Warren, Ohio, to whom one daughter was born. His wound left him in a delicate condition until the date of his death on September 14^th, 1867, at Warren, where he was buried in Oakwood cemetery.

William Cain was born in New York City, New York, June 13^th, 1842. His parents removed to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, when he was quite young, and he was educated in a common schools in that city.

At the breaking out of the war the rebellion, after the firing on Fort Sumter, he enlisted as a private in a company raised at Painesville, Ohio, April 22^nd, 1861, which when mustered into the service of the United States for three months became Company D, Seventh Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On June 19^th he reenlisted in the same company for three years. He was promoted to sergeant for gallant and meritorious service in the face of the enemy.

He participated in the following battles during the war: Blues Gap, Winchester, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Dumfries, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Ringgold, Resaca and Rocky Faced Ridge. He was a good soldier in every sense of the word.

He was discharged from the service on the expiration of term of enlistment of his regiment, July 6^th, 1864. Reenlisted February 28^th, 1865, in Company D, Fourth United States Veterans, and was mustered out of the regiment February 28^th, 1866, at Todd Barracks, Columbus, Ohio.

Albert Colwell was born in Perry, Lake County, Ohio, February 22^nd, 1842, and was educated in the common schools in the city.

After the breaking out of the war in enlisted as a private in company D, Seventh Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, June 7^th, 1861, at Painesville, Ohio, and was mustered into the service of the United States at Camp Dennison, Ohio, June 19^th, 1861. He states that he participated in all the battles of the regiment accept Cross Lanes Va., August 26^th, 1861 when he was back at Sutton, Va., sick. He was wounded at Cedar Mountain, Va., August 9^th, 1862, in the left ankle.

He was mustered out of his regiment July 6^th, 1864, on account of the expiration of its term of service. Reenlisted September 12^th, 1864, in Company D, 177^th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged at Greensboro, N.C., June 24^th, 1865.

Emery Warren Force was born in Morrisville, Madison County, New York, December 25^th, 1840. His parents removed to Chagrin Falls, Ohio, in the year 1849. He was educated in the common schools of both of those villages and had a good education. At the breaking out of the war of the rebellion and the firing on Fort Sumter he was the first man to volunteer for three months at Chagrin Falls, Ohio, under the call of President Lincoln for 75,000 volunteers. He enlisted for a period of three years in Company D, Seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on June 19^th, 1861, and was promoted to the position of sergeant of his company.

He participated in the battles of Cross Lanes and Winchester and was in numerous skirmishes, until discharged from the service of the United States May 10^th, 1862, on account of surgeons certificate of disability, he having been ruptured during his service. On his return from the army he settled again at Chagrin Falls, remaining there for several years and engaged in commercial pursuits. In the year 1877 he was commissioned as Captain of Company G, 15^th Regiment, Ohio National Guard, which he retained for several years, until obliged by physical infirmities to resign from the service.

Henry H. Rhodes was born about 2 mi. from the city of Erie, Erie County, Pa., in the year 1846. His parents were of old Pennsylvania Dutch stock and immigrated to Painesville, Ohio, when he was five years of age.

At the breaking out of the war of the rebellion after the firing on Fort Sumter he enlisted as a private in a company D, Seventh Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, at the age of 15, although he claimed to be 19 years of age so as to pass muster, April 21^st, 1861. He enlisted in the three years' service June 19^th.

He participated in the following battles: Cross Lanes, Va., August 26^th, 1861; Port Republic, Va., Cedar Mountain, Va., August 9^th, 1862; Dug Gap, Ga., May 8^th, 1864; Resaca Ga., May 15^th, 1864; Pumpkin Vine Creek, Dallas, and New Hope Church, Ga., May 25^th to June 1^st, 1864. He was wounded at Cedar Mountain and was mustered out of the service on expiration of term of service of his regiment, July 6^th, 1864.

He married Miss Edith A. Ellis, at Panama, Chautauqua County, New York, March 31^st, 1869, in one son and four daughters were born to them. Since the war he has been employed as a stationary engineer in the oilfields of Pennsylvania, and now resides at Painesville, Ohio

Willard B. Tisdel was born in Lake County, Ohio, July 27^th, 1844, and was educated in a common schools of that county, with a slight finishing at Poughkeepsie College, through a commercial course.

He entered the military service at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, on April 20^th, 1861. He served in Company D., Seventh Ohio Infantry, as a private, Corporal, Sergeant, First Sergeant, and as Sergeant Major of the Regiment, and participated in the battles of Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Dumfries, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, and Ringgold,. Was wounded in the head at Gettysburg. He was discharged at Columbus, Ohio, on April 27^th, 1864, on expiration of his term of enlistment. He also served one year in the U.S. Reserve Corps on detail in the War Department the entire time.

Lawrence Wilson was born September 2^nd, 1842, in Southington, Trumbull County, Ohio. Farmer boy educated in common schools, with exception of a term in Calkin’s Commercial College at Oberlin, Ohio.

He enlisted at Perry, Lake County, Ohio, on April 22^nd, 1861; entered Camp Taylor at Cleveland in "Wright’s Guards," on the 25^th, where the company disbanded April 30^th; services not accepted. Again enlisted at Painesville Ohio, June 3^rd, 1861, for a term of three years. Left for Camp Dennison on the 5^th; arrived on the 6^th; assigned to Company D, Seventh Regiment Ohio Infantry, on the 7^th, and mustered in on June 19^th, 1861. Served as private to April 1, 1862; as corporal to February 5^th, 1863; and as sergeant to October 1^st, 1863, and as first sergeant to date of discharged.

Participated in the battles at Cross Lanes, Antietam, Kernstown, Port republics, Cedar Mountain, Dumfries, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, look out mountain, missionary Ridge, Ringgold, Resaca, Dallas, and New Hope Church. At battle of Port Republic he was struck by a missile in right breast, causing a severe contusion; shot through left arm above elbow, in left breast, and foot at Cedar Mountain; and in right hand at Ringgold, Ga. Pensioned for three gunshot wounds received in battle-was discharged with his company, July 7^th, 1864, at Cleveland Ohio, on expiration of term of service.

He was employed as a clerk in the U.S. Treasury Department from March 9^th, 1865 to June 4^th, 1870. He graduated from the medical department of Georgetown College, D.C., The class of 1870; he practiced medicine and prosecuted claims against United States until May, 1877; he moved to Kansas; located cattle ranch on Soldier Creek, Comanche County, and was postmaster at Soldier Creek, he resided there until Jan., 1884; was the medical adviser and attendant for his neighbor ranch men far and wide; located in Larned, Kan., in Drug Store until February, 1885; served as agent of the Bureau of the Animal Industry, United States Department of Agriculture, until October, 1885; Notary Public and real-estate and livestock agent until elected mayor of the city of Larned in the spring of 1887; to Glassco, Kan.; President of the Glassco flowering mill company, and operated flowering mill there from October, 1887, until October, 1888; Topeka, Kan., and Assistant adjutant general, Department of Kansas with Oklahoma Indian Territories attached, Grand Army of the Republic, until March, 1890; to Washington, D.C., And reappointed in Treasury Department, May 30^th, 1890; transferred to the Department of the Interior, September 26^th, 1890; promoted to medical examiner, June 19^th, 1897, were yet employed, in the medical division of the United States Bureau of pensions.
