Organized in Ravenna, Portage Co., Ohio and removed to Cleveland under the direction of Captain John Morris.

Three Month service: Mustered in April 24th, 1861 at Cleveland, Ohio by William Clinton, 1st Lieutenant, 10th Infantry U.S.A., Mustering Officer. Mustered out August 18th, 1861 at Ravenna, Portage Co., Ohio by J. R. Edie, Major, 15th Infantry, U.S.A., Mustering Officer.

Three Year service: Mustered in at Camp Dennison, Cincinnati, Ohio, between June 17th and June 20thth, 1861. Mustered out at Cleveland, Ohio July 6th, 1864.

V. I.; reentered the service on Aug. 30th, 1862 as a Lieutenant in Co. I, 104th, O. V. I.; remained in guard of Cincinnati, Ohio until May of 1863 when he was promoted to Captain of Co. I, 104th, O. V. I.; returned home to Brimfield, Ohio, due to failing health, on Sept. 29th, 1863; rejoined the Company on Dec. 8th, 1863 and participated in the siege of Knoxville, TN.; in late 1864 he was promoted to Assistant Adjutant General on Brigadier General J. Reilly's staff; followed the command in pursuit of Confederate General J. B. Hood into Tenn.; during the Battle of Franklin, Tenn. he was mortally wounded and taken prisoner by the Confederates; he died Dec. 3rd, 1864 while being taken care of by a local family in Franklin, Tenn.
