Observing Plum Blossoms at the Temple of Local Deities in Bo City
Chao, Bu-zhi (1053 A.D.-1110 A.D.)
When the plum tree blooms, it looks as if it is snowing. After it loses its
petals, the ground seems to be covered with snow. Plum blossoms are the
unmatched queen among flowers. Its fragrance is not in either the pistil or the
calyx. It is deep in its veins. The plum blossoms claim the wind from the creek
and urge the moon to stay. Even though the peach flowers are red like blood,
they are not as lovely as plum blossoms. The plum blossoms are not only
straightforward and rich in spirit, but also simple and independent.
Consequently, they possess special charm.
