Dawn in Spring 1

Meng, Hao Jan (689 A.D.-740 A.D.)

A good night's sleep in Spring makes me unaware
That the dawn is arriving.
Suddenly, I am awakened by birds' chirping from everywhere.
Having heard the sound of wind and rain during the night,
I wonder how many flowers have fallen.

1 Most poets feel sad about fallen flowers. Meng transcended his sorrow and considered fallen flowers a phenomenon of nature. Therefore, he was peaceful and joyful when the dawn arrived.
