Going Home

He, Zhi-zhang (659 A.D.-744 A.D.)

1.
I left home when I was a child
And come back at an old age 1.
My native tongue has not changed,
But my beard is becoming sparse.
When the children see me, they consider me a stranger
And playfully ask me where I come from.

2.

I have been gone from home for many years.
Recently half of my strength and memory has worn away.
Only the water of the Mirror Lake in front of my door remained unchanged.
It still has the same old waves in the spring wind.

1 He passed the Advanced Exam at the age of 37. Before he passed the exam, he had already left his hometown. Later, he worked as a government official and lived in many places throughout the country, but never returned home until he was 86.
