Horsing Around

"Most of the time we played on the bouncy castle until we were needed"

It's a case of horse power of the four-legged variety this fortnight for dishy Ramsay Street mechanic Drew Kirk when his family persuade him to take part in a Wild West-style rodeo. Keen to take Libby's mind off her recent break-up with her college lecturer Mike, Healey, Drew whisks her away to his home town Oakey, and promptly finds himself pressured into strapping on his chaps and taking on a Kirk family rival at the local rodeo championships.

"Drew is the local hero and catching up with his old friends," says actor Dan Paris, who plays the reluctant cowboy. "He was a rodeo champion when he left town two years ago and he gets forced into doing it all over again because he doesn't want to be seen letting everyone  down."

Dan had never ridden a horse before filming the rodeo scenes but was determined to perform all of his own stunts and spent hours beforehand learning how to ride. "I picked up a few skills along the way... like how not to fall off!" the 26-year-old actor laughs. "As Drew, I have to take a couple of facefuls of dust and dirt, and at one point it started to rain so it all became mud. But that's about as bad as it got. Most of the time, though, we just played on the bouncy castle until the crew needed us!" Drew's pride may take a bit of a battering at the rodeo, but do his chances with Libby suffer a similar fate? "Drew and Libby's relationship will go on and develop," says Dan. "He has not had a major romance before this. Hopefully, this will be the big one."
