It's
a common enough soap scenario- you’re in love with your best friend's
boyfriend, but what should you do? If you are nice like Ramsay Street's
Stephanie Scully, your only option is to wait. And this month, it seems
Stephanie's patience has finally paid off. With Libby Kennedy calling off her
engagement to Drew Kirk, it appears that fate will give Steph the chance to make
a move on the muscle- bound mechanic.
"Steph has been lusting after Drew from the moment she
arrived in Ramsay Street," laughs Carla Bonner who plays her. "But up
until now, he had been involved with Libby, so Steph's attitude was very much
'Okay, hands off.' But that's changed, and she's now beginning to think that
something might develop between them."
 As Neighbours fans will know, Libby recently broke off her
engagement to Drew after learning she was no longer able to conceive children.
While Libby still loves Drew, she told him otherwise so he could get on with his
life and be happy, and maybe have kids, with someone else. But even she had no
idea that the someone could be her former bridesmaid-to-be Steph!
"Libby doesn't know how Steph feels and I think she
would be quite furious if she found out," Carla says. "In fact,
Stephanie hasn't dared to tell anyone yet. But she is enjoying the opportunity
to be close to Drew, even if he is only using her as a shoulder to cry on while
he’s so upset about Libby."
Although Steph may think her attraction is under wraps,
those around her gradually cotton on to her growing infatuation. "Steph
invites Drew over to her house for dinner one evening and basically spends the
entire night pining after him," Carla reveals. "She doesn't think
she's being obvious, but she is, because later on her mum Lyn says something to
her. Of course, Steph denies it, but we can see she is totally besotted with
Drew and is secretly biding her time, waiting for him to feel the same way about
her.
"Steph truly believes that it is only a matter of
time. It's natural for Drew to be upset over Libby and to be cautious about
getting involved with someone else. But Steph is determined to be there waiting
for him when the day eventually comes." Even a casual observer would have
to agree that Steph and Drew have much in common. Aside from their obvious good
looks, they share a passion for motobikes and a love of the outdoors. And
according to Carla, Stephanie is quick to capitalize on this.
"Steph enlists Drew's help in getting her motorcycle
fixed and back on the road, and they bond over their shared love of
mechanics," Carla revealed. "Drew even offers to take the bike for a
spin with Steph, which she is thrilled about. So very slowly, they're coming
closer together." Having said that though, Carla points out that Stephanie
is not without a conscience. "She feels terrible about Libby, but that’s
not stopping her from going after what she wants. Steph is human, just like the
rest of us. She can’t help the way she feels."
