When Ramsay Street's Drew
Kirk proposed to his girlfriend Libby Kennedy back in February, we were all
disappointed when she turned him down. However, a nation of collective sign of
relief- as Libby finally agrees to wed the handsome hunk! "It all begins
when Drew's Aunt Minnie sends them a voucher to get photographic portraits
done," explains Kym Valentine, who plays Libby. "When they arrive at
the studio, they are told to dress up in these old-fashioned costumes, and Libby
chooses a Victorian wedding dress. Drew gets caught up in the romance of it all
and jokingly proposes. And to his surprise, Libby actually accepts!"
According to Kym, the time
is now right for Libby and Drew to tie the knot. "When Drew first proposed,
Libby was under a lot of pressure from her friends and family to say
yes," she explains. "Everyone though they made the perfect couple and
wanted them to marry. But with all that pressure, Libby couldn't think clearly
about what she wanted. Now the attention has died down, she realizes that she'd
love to be Drew's wife." Not surprisingly, news of the engagement brings
tears of joy in the Erinsborough cul-de-sac. "The Kennedy clan are
ecstatic, especially Libby's mum, Susan," Kym reveals. "And Drew's
family are over the moon, too."
However, as viewers will
discover later in the month, there is one local who is far from pleased when she
learns of the impending nuptials. When Geri, Libby's work rival, hears that the
couple are planning to have a long engagement, she quickly sets about making
trouble. "Geri butts in and makes a bitchy comment, basically insinuating
that a long engagement means that they don't really love each other," Kym
says. "So they bring the date forward. Libby decides that as they are going
to spend the rest of their lives together, there doesn't seem much point in waiting
any longer."
While Kym says she is happy
that Libby will finally walk down the aisle, she knows that the path to marital
bliss still has a few twists and turns left in it. "Everyone loves a
wedding," she says. "Me included! But with Drew and Libby's past track
record, there is bound to be some kind of drama on the big day- the car will
break down on the way to the church or the dress will be ruined. Whatever
happens though, fans will still love it!"
