When dashing Drew Kirk
invites Stephanie Scully to escape Erinsborough and take a trip to the bush for
a few days this fortnight, he sees it as a chance to relax and unwind with
a good mate. Stephanie, however, believes this is the perfect opportunity to
finally tell Drew just how she feels about him. But unfortunately for Stephanie,
the romantic setting ends up providing the backdrop for her crushing
disappointment when Drew confesses that he's still madly in love with his former
fiancée, Libby Kennedy.
"When Drew asks her to
come away, Stephanie takes it as a sign that perhaps he's over Libby and wants
to move on to her," explains Carla Bonner, who plays Stephanie. "On
their trip, they end up lying under the stars and Stephanie is telling Drew all
the things she likes about him- his honesty, and that kind of thing. She's
working up to telling him that she loves him, but Drew doesn't realize it.
Everything that she says makes him think of Libby, and just as she is about to
tell Drew how she feels, he says that he still loves Libby and he wished to get
back together with her."
Although the revelation
strikes a blow to Stephanie's heart, she quickly hides her devastation.
"After Drew says all that stuff about Libby, Stephanie realizes that she
can never tell him how she feels," Carla says. "She decides that
moment has passed forever and she has to get on with her life." Stephanie gets
the chance to do just that when she returns to Ramsay Street after her ill-fated
trip with Drew. Unbeknown to her, Tess Bell's new housemate, Daniel Fitzgerald,
has already taken a shine to her. "Daniel asks Stephanie to go out on a
date, which comes as a bit of a shock to her," Carla reveals. "At
first, she thinks 'No- I can't do it'. But then she decides 'What the heck? This
is exactly what I need to take my mind off Drew'."
It only it were so east!
While Daniel proves to be every inch the perfect gentleman, Stephanie is unable
to return his feelings. "Daniel is great, but he's not Drew," Carla
says. "Perhaps if he came along at another time, something might happen,
but not now." To make matters worse, Tess Bell is keen on Daniel, and is
upset about his date with Stephanie. "So they're all unhappy," Carla
laughs. "Nobody is getting the person they want at the moment!"
