Neighbours Golden Couple: Libby Kennedy and Drew Kirk |
Here comes the bride (at last!)
Libby and Drew's romance has been a roller-coaster affair from the start. Now, Neighbours fans are at last to see their biggest wish come true when the couple becomes Mr. and Mrs...
As the wedding bells finally ring for Libby and Drew, their families won't be the only ones heaving great sighs of relief. Fans who've watched the couple's rocky road to the altar will be delighted to see the pair plight their troth. It's been obvious to everyone that they're the perfect couple- but they've certainly kept us on tenterhooks as their passion has blown hot and gold. "Drew and Libby are meant for each other," says Dan Paris, who plays Drew. "it's taken them time to get their acts together and they've have many setbacks. But it's been well worth the wait."
Don't expect the big day to go too smoothly, though. It wouldn't be a soap wedding without a few hitches. Drew's eccentric Uncle Fergus arrives from Scotland and insists the family spend the eve of the wedding in a traditional haggis-making ceremony. A larger- than-life character, he's got an eye for the lassies and loves a party. But this particular shindig is one Drew could have done without. "Haggis is the kind of dish that turns many stomachs- including Drew's," says Dan, sparing us the gory details. "Thank fully, he's all right by the next morning, his wedding day!"
Then there's bridesmaid Steph who'd much rather be the one getting dressed up in the white frock and walking off with the hunky groom. She's forced herself to put aside her feelings for Drew for her mate Libby's sake and, anyway, now has more to worry about in the shape of her dodgy ex, Larry. As for the bride, she's cool, calm and collected- until the wedding day dawns and she wakes up a mass of nerves. Once in her dress, though, she starts to feel the part as much as she looks it. "Libby's dress is my dream dress," admits Kym Valentine, who plays the blushing bride. "The designer did an amazing job."
And, as she walks down the aisle to join Drew at the altar, there are no more doubts. "It's a very romantic ceremony," say's Kym. "Libby and Drew are both ecstatic." The reception's riotous affair, with Scottish pipers noisily entertaining guests until the star turn- Drew singing a traditional Scottish song. "Drew's terrified at having to sing, and so was I!" admits Dan, who had to don a traditional kilt for the big day. And it's no use asking him what he was wearing underneath... "There was a lot of discussion as to whether or not I was wearing any underwear, but I'm not telling," he laughs. For Kym, the perfect moment was when Libby finally says 'I do'. "I had real tears in my eyes," she says. And so will every Neighbours fan...
