Neighbours Golden Couple:

Libby Kennedy and Drew Kirk

Och aye, I do!

After many ups and downs, Libby and Drew finally tie the knot with a traditional Scottish wedding

Finally Drew and Libby head up the aisle with a smile for the Erinsborough wedding of the year.

If any soap couple deserves to live happily ever after, it's Ramsay Street's Drew Kirk and Libby Kennedy. For the past two years, their on/off romance has kept Neighbours fan captivated. But happily, the moment we've all been waiting for arrives when the two finally tie the knot. And, according to Dan Paris and Kym Valentine, who play the happy couple, the heart-warming ceremony more than makes up for the long wait. "Nobody could ever accuse Drew and Libby of rushing to the altar," says Dan. "I know that viewers have been pulling their hair out, wondering if it would ever happen. But hopefully they'll see that all the ups and downs have been worth it."

Fortunately, the wedding runs much smoothly than Drew and Libby's courtship! In fact, it's totally devoid of hitches. "Things always go wrong at soap weddings, so it's a nice change to have a wedding where everything goes right," says Kym. "It's just a perfect day." Not that the build-up to the big day is uneventful- particularly when Drew's boisterous family arrive in town for the event. "The Kirk family turn up in full force- Drew's mum and dad, plus his brothers, Dougal and Stuart, and his little sister Sally-Anne, who's never ever been mentioned before!" laughs Dan. "But the biggest and noisiest is the arrival of uncle Fergus, all the way from Scotland."

While Fergus ropes Drew and Kirk Kennedy into a traditional haggis-making ceremony, Libby enjoys a more laid-back hen night next door at the Scully's. Her night is made even more special by the fact that her best pal, Stephanie Scully, has once again agreed to be her bridesmaid. "Steph is well and truly over her feelings for Drew, and she's happy to be in the bridal party again," says Kym, referring to last year's sizzling love triangle, which threatened to put an end to the nuptials once and for all. "All the girls get together and swap stories, then they go next door and join the boys for the lighting of the haggis."

When the morning of the wedding arrives, both Drew and Libby are in fine form and, with the sun shining brightly, the excited couple make their way to the church. "It all goes like clockwork," Kym says. "Libby, Karl and Steph travel to the church in a beautiful car. Libby walks down the aisle and is delighted to see Drew in his kilt. They're both the happiest they've ever been!" "They're probably a bit shocked too," adds Dan. "Neither of them really expected this day to happen."

After a tear-jerking ceremony, the couple are pronounced husband and wife, and then it's on to the reception. And if Drew looks a little nervous at this point, it's with a good reason. "Drew and Uncle Fergus sing a traditional Scottish song at the reception," smiles Dan. "I only ever sing in the shower- and even then I don't get god feedback- so I was probably just as nervous about performing as Drew." Dan also had a few reservations when it came to wearing a kilt. "it's one thing to sing, but another thing to have to wear a skirt!" he laughs. "Also, it was a very hot day and the kilt was made of heavy material. I felt like Mel Gibson in Braveheart."

While Dan was somewhat uncomfortable on the day, Kym was all smiles. Behind-the-scenes, she took a keen interest in the preparation of the wedding and even helped to pick the dress, which was made by popular Melbourne designer Shane McConnell. "I'm in big trouble when it comes to my real wedding, because that was my dream dress," Kym says. "We designed it to fit my body perfectly and Shane and I worked closely together, so it felt like the real thing."

Kym even had some real-life connections in the church congregation. "My mum, my little sister, Shayne, and my agent were extras," she says. "Mum has always wanted to see me get married, and she was really touched by the ceremony." Despite his nerves, Dan managed to get at least one thrill on the day. "We used the same church as Scott and Charlene to get married in- that was a nice touch!"
