Neighbours Golden Couple: Libby Kennedy and Drew Kirk |
The Full Story of the wedding
*NOTE* I've decided to take a different approach in writing the summaries to this special wedding week. I thought it might be better to get a more personally point of view. So the summary below is mostly written by Mike, while I just added a few bits and pieces. If you would like to receive more reviews written by Mike join his Rhythm of Neighbours club, it's pretty good- trust me!!
The day is finally here... the BIG DAY... Drew & Libby's Wedding!
And the storylines to do with Drew and Libby can't get much better.
MONDAY
Last week on Friday we were left hanging in a cliffhanger which was good enough
for the end of year cliffhanger.
Harold was giving Paul another driving lesson and Paul sped into Ramsey Street
and at the same time Drew and Libby were on the road next to Drew's ute. Paul
was heading straight for Drew and Libby, when Drew grabbed Libby and threw the
both of them onto the footpath. Paul slammed the breaks and was lucky to have
not ran them over.
Libby and Drew weren't hurt, except for Libby's wrist which was slightly hurt
but nothing major. Harold and Paul quickly got out of the car to see if Drew and
Libby were ok, and Drew had a fit at Paul. He totally had an outrage at Paul and
Harold, but then Libby calmed him down and everything seemed to go a little less
tense. Drew and Libby went back into the Kennedy's house and Drew felt a little
bad for over reacting but he was just saying how it brought back a few memories
of when Libby was in that accident with Steph.
All in all Libby was fine, and during today's episode Drew went and apologized
to Paul for over reacting but Paul said he had all good reason to act that way.
Anyway, Drew and Libby are fine, but Paul doesn't want to learn to drive
anymore, and Harold is trying to make him drive again however Paul no longer
wants to learn, even though Drew offered to teach!
More news on the Wedding is that they mentioned Malcolm and Billy in today's
episode and how they can't make the wedding for work commitments and distance
that needs to be traveled. Harold and Madge have helped out with the Kennedy's
in giving them food for all the guests that will be visiting the Kennedy
household before the wedding. Both Harold and Madge have been over at the
Kennedy's helping out with all that.
More news with the wedding is that many of Drew's family and Libby's family will
be staying at the Kennedy's during the wedding therefore the house is packed and
Susan is trying to organize everything. She is also trying to organize motel accommodation
for other extended family! Susan also found something that she wanted Libby to
wear on her wedding day. Susan gave her mum's necklace to Libby which was
amazing and Libby thanked her mother for that!
Well that's about it on the Wedding for now! Tomorrow's episode is all about the
Wedding again as all the extended family arrives and there is even one that
arrives from Scotland. It sure will be interesting to see all the family and how
they all get along. Its all Wedding hype on Ramsey Street. Not only on Ramsey
Street, but in the papers and magazines all the hype is on Drew and Libby. Front
covers of magazines show the 2 together and all in all its the Wedding of the
year.
TUESDAY
It's exciting, it's unbelievable and it's finally here.... what
is??? Drew and Libby's Wedding of course. Well not yet anyway... 1 Day to
go!!!!!
First up, Drew's parents arrived at the Kennedy's house and they were all
talking about speeches and how both dad's wanna say a sarcastic type of speech
whereas the wife's want them to say a nice sentimental one. It was not long
before all of them hit the Erinsborough nightlife and went to Lou's Pub. And it
was there that Drew's uncle from Scotland, Fergus, made an entrance with a
bagpipe. He entered the pub and was greeted by all and they all started to
mingle. The Scully's were also there, excluding the 2 younger daughters. All of
them were mingling and having a good time.
The day after that it was all work as usual for Susan as she headed off to
school, whereas Karl stayed back with Drew's dad and Fergus as they all prepared
a dinner for that night in which it was to be held in Drew's home which is the
house where Lou lives. Fergus wanted to kill 'Casserole'; the Kennedy's sheep,
so that they can make haggis out of the sheep. Susan is extremely shocked and
eventually they found another sheep.
Drew was a little sick from the drinking the night before at the pub and eating
all the food Madge made, but it wasn't too long before he felt better. Libby on
the other hand went shopping with Rose and Steph and that kept them occupied for
the whole day.
We also got to see Steph's dress. Libby brought it home from the shop and Lyn
was measuring it and doing the final trimmings for it. It was silver and Steph
looked gorgeous in it even though she was rather agitated that she had to wear
it, as you know Steph, she doesn't like to dress up and all. Libby also received
a parcel from Malcolm overseas in this episode however we didn't get to see what
was inside. All we saw was Libby trying to open it and then that was the end of
that.
The wedding is said to go all well and smooth and its been said that its a real
tear-jerker. So get the tissues out as its more than just a normal soap wedding,
its as one magazine said, its a Wedding that fans have been waiting for for 3
years, its an event that caps off a cycle of ups and downs, its an episode that
will be watched by millions of people, and in simpler terms, its Drew and
Libby's Wedding Day!
WEDNESDAY
Neighbours in its 16 years has had quite a few weddings but none
like Drew and Libby's Wedding.
It goes down as the BEST Neighbours Wedding ever. Yes it was even better than
Scott and Charlene's Wedding which had millions of fans glued to their TV sets.
Drew and Libby's Wedding will have you glued to your TV sets but on top of that,
have you watching it a second time, a third time, a fourth time, a fifth time, a
sixth time and on and on and on. A soap wedding can't get much better than this.
It was perfect and it had all the ingredients of the BEST Wedding EVER!
The episode was a very powerful Neighbours episode. The supporting storylines
were at its best. Before I tell you about the Wedding, the episode started off
in a shock, with Steph walking into her house crying and Lyn and Joe coming to
her attention. When Steph's ex owned up to the police last week about his
robbery and how he can't go through with it and how it was planned with him and
his jail inmates, Woody was put back into jail. Then, only one day later Woody
was bashed in jail and taken out of jail and into hospital. This was when Steph
was informed that she should remain alert for the next few weeks as his inmates
and friends outside of jail know what Steph looks like.
That's the storyline to back you up for why Steph was crying, as that night when
she came walking into her house crying she has been threatened by a guy at the
pub that supposedly knew Woody her ex who is in hospital. Immediately Joe took
Steph down to the police and they told the police what happened and after that
everything seemed to be ok.
The other supporting storyline for the Wedding episode came as a huge SHOCK. For
a week or so now we haven't seen Lou in Neighbours as he hasn't had many huge
storylines, however in today's episode he was lifting a computer monitor in his
office at the pub and he had this pain in his back that he dropped the computer
and couldn't move his back. Toadie was going to drive Lou to the wedding anyway,
so instead of taking him to the wedding he took him to the hospital. Lou was
taken in immediately for tests all shall be revealed
So with 2 great supporting storylines for the wedding, it made this episode one
of the best in a very very long time.
While Steph came home crying, Drew and Libby were at Drew's house with Libby's
parents and Drew's parents preparing for that dinner celebration. Before they
got ready to eat, Drew's younger brother arrived and 2 other family members of
Drew family, his sister Sally-Ann and brother Stewart. Drew's aunty also
arrived, who we have already met in Neighbours. She is the aunty that bought
Drew and Libby that vase that they broke and then broke again!!
The pre-Wedding celebrations continued and all of the family
finally sat down and ate the dinner which was haggis that looked... well you
wouldn't want to eat it yourself.
Once that was finished, it was the day after... the Wedding Day! It started with
us seeing Libby in a panic at the very early hours of the morning searching her
make up bag for nail polish. Susan woke up and was asking her why is she up so
early and Libby started explaining how she wanted to change her nail polish
colour etc etc etc and Susan was calming her down and Libby was saying how she
has never felt so nervous in her life before.
Hours past and Sally-Ann, Susan, Rose, Aunt Minnie, Drew's other family member
and Tess all went to the church and decorated it and they all then returned back
to the Kennedy's house where Lyn was working on Libby's face and hair. Steph
arrived with the box that had all the flowers for the bride and the bridesmaid.
Minnie took a photo of everyone smiling except Libby who obviously was under a
lot of distress. While this was happening Karl as on the phone with his Dad,
Tom. He rang to say that he couldn't make it because something happened to one
of his horses.
After this they showed Drew at his house getting ready in his suit and kilt.
Over at his house was his dad, Fergus, Dougal and Stewart. Dougal was taking
photos and the whole spirit of the Wedding was building up at this stage. Once that scene was finished, they were at the church and most of the
Neighbourhood were there. Dione and Tess were going crazy with the camera.
Harold and Madge were there and they both looked good. Joe, Lyn and Flick were
there and so was Joel. Practically the entire of Ramsey Street was there.
The one thing that made this one of the BEST Wedding's ever was the camera work.
It was well done and it was like a real Wedding video. You had the camera up
close and personal with each character and there weren't much dialogue with the
characters. It was just great viewing to see what everyone was doing, that they didn't
need talking that often.
First Drew and the men arrived and so did the parents of both sides and the
extended family. Rose went up to Drew and kissed him. Then Drew and his best man,
Stewart, walked into the church along with Drew's parents. After that Libby
arrived in her white old fashion wedding car. She made her way out of the car
and into the arms of Karl as they walked down the aisle.
Everything was done so well, with little talk and it all came together so well.
It was like watching a Wedding of someone you knew, it was that good!!!
Drew and Libby said their vows with the camera crossing from one to the other
both of them saying different parts of the vow. Then finally the moment came
when Drew and Libby were married and they gave each other their first Married
Kiss. They then exited the church and their was a path of men who were playing
bagpipes and Drew and Libby walked down the path.
Minutes later you see Drew and Libby kissing everyone and people walking in
front of the camera and everyone just so happy. This very part of the Wedding
felt so real, it was just the best to watch... it was EXCELLENT!
Then the BEST Wedding EVER got even better. If you think back to
past weddings you will remember that not many, actually not any have a reception
after the church. Well that's until now as Drew and Libby got married at a
reception in the city and it was glamorous. The reception was done up
professionally and it was like an exact wedding. There was a main table where
Drew and Libby and the parents and best man and Steph sat at. There were
circular tables for all the guests, there were waiters, there was a band, the
full thing... the full on Wedding!
It was here that Karl said his speech and it was a pleasant speech. It made
Susan cry and Libby was very emotional but then he had everyone laughing and the
whole reception were in tears of laughter when he begins to tell them about
Libby's past. Then as soon as the speech was over, Ron told everyone that a Kirk
tradition has always existed at Weddings and that they had something special to
do for Libby. So Drew followed by Fergus and Harold all hit the stage and sang
for Libby.
It was this very part of the Wedding that was the tear-jerker. It was 3 years of
relationships, 3 years of ups and downs, 3 years of where at times Drew was
sitting by Libby's hospital bed, and 3 years of all the times they have shared
together. It was the part of the Wedding that showed us the fans the love that
Drew and Libby have for each other. It showed us the commitment they have for
one another and how much in love they really are. Drew was singing directly in
front of her and Libby was crying and this moment was one of the best moments of
this Wedding.
After that both Drew and Libby got up and danced and the camera concentrated on
them and then it showed Karl and Susan and how they were overly excited for the
2 of them. After this everyone joined in the dancing and everyone was having a
great time. Later Drew and Libby were kissing everyone and saying their
goodbyes as everyone was standing on the dance floor kissing them goodbye. We
saw Libby kiss Steph and we saw Steph give her a big hug and smile and we saw
Drew kiss his close family friends and then it was time for the Bouquet to be
thrown. I wonder who caught the bouquet?? Well Libby threw it in the air and
none other than Steph caught it at the other end.
We then see Drew and Libby hand in hand, dressed both in their Wedding formals.
Drew dressed smartly in his kilt but Libby outshining him in her perfect Wedding
gown which was just glamorous. She shined from head to toe and she looked
beautiful. Libby was so happy and so was Drew and both of them walked away with
huge smiles waving goodbye to all the guests and that concluded the BEST
NEIGHBOURS WEDDING EVER!!!
That was the end... the end of the episode that we have all been waiting for,
for what seems a lifetime! It was very well made, filmed and acted. All the
people both on Neighbours and behind the scenes were stars and most of all Drew
and Libby have tied the knot in what seems like the event of Neighbours'
history. We are probably just saying this now because it is the present but in
years to come we will always look back at the Wedding of Drew and Libby and say
"that was the BEST thing that's ever happened on Neighbours".
THURSDAY
Think back to all the Wedding's that Neighbours have had and tell me if you
remember any of them actually having a Honeymoon and you the viewer getting to
see them on their honeymoon. That rarely happens on Neighbours. Well it's
different for Drew and Libby. We the viewers are experiencing their honeymoon
with them. Its absolutely awesome, its like your there with them.
They have gone to Surfers Paradise in Queensland in Australia which speaks for
itself... its PARADISE! They are staying in a five star hotel resort and they
are being spoilt with a BMW to drive around in. Once again the camera work is
superb and you feel as if you wish you were there.
The episode begins with an airplane landing. Here we see Libby and Drew walking out of the plane hand in hand. Karl had planned this honeymoon and they had no idea where they were going. Libby and Drew follows the directions around and ends up at an amazing BMW car. On the car is an envelope addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Kirk. Inside the envelope are tickets and a map- with no indication where they are going. They drive the car, following the map and comes up to a five star hotel, the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove. The couple are amazed at the hotel. They walk around it for a while before being shown to their room- which was the Presidential Suite!
After they settled in, Libby asks Drew what he wants to do. She suggests swimming, sailing, bush walking etc etc etc... basically what was on the brochure she was reading. Drew tells her that they left something out of that list and with a pen he writes something down. Libby reads it and smiles. She comments that it's an indoor activity... and they kiss.
Later, Libby and Drew are at Seaworld swimming with the dolphins. The trainer there is showing them tricks and they're absolutely having a fabulous time! Anyway after this, the two of them go for a walk. Drew refuses to tell Libby where they are going and changes the subject by asking Libby where they should live. Libby tells him that they'll live at Lou's- but she was only joking so therefore doesn't answer the question. Libby continues to ask Drew where they are going but Drew just leads the way.
Libby and Drew ends up on a cruising yacht drinking champagne. They are completely happy and Libby tells Drew that she'll always remember this moment. They drink to Karl and them. Libby thanks Drew for not giving up on her before they kiss.
