UP
writing fellows named

The UP Creative Writing Center announces the awarding of ten
fellowships to the UP National Writers' Workshop, to be held
at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City, October 17-24. The
theme of the Davao Workshop is "Lugar sa Pagsulat"
to emphasize the importance of writing from the regions.
The
workshop will be directed by Ricardo de Ungria, newly installed
chancellor of UP Mindanao and winner of this year's National
Book Award for Poetry of the Manila Critics' Circle.
The
chosen fellows are: Genevieve Asenjo (Fiction in Filipino),
Jose Duke S. Bagulaya (Poetry in Waray), Daryll Jane Delgado
(Poetry in Waray and Fiction in Eglish), Germelina Lacorte
(Fiction in English), Gabriela Alejandra Lee (Poetry in English),
Michael Ligalig (Fiction in Sugbuanon), Karen Kay Rivero (Poetry
in English), Alex de los Santos (Fiction in English), Ramel
Taculod (Poetry in Sugbuanon), and Cor Marie Villojan (Poetry
in Karay-a).
The
teaching panel will be composed of UP CWC associates and resident
fellows Leoncio Deriada, winner of the Carlos Palanca Hall
of Fame Award; Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, this year's Gawad
Balagtas awardee; and multi-awarded writers Gemino Abad and
Jose Lacaba.
Unlike
the UP Workshop which is held in Baguio, the October workshop
is open only to writers based in the Visayas and Mindanao.
It accepts works written in the major Visayan languages, as
well as English and Filipino. Fellows should call Tony Serrano
