National
Book Awards 2000 finalists announced
The Manila Critics
Circle recently announced the finalists for the 2000 National
Book Awards. Dr. Ophelia Dimalanta, MCC Chairperson, said
the winners will be announced on September 8 at a ceremony
at the Function Room B, Megatrade Hall, 5/F SM Megamall B,
Mandaluyong City.
A special citation will be
awarded to the Carlos Palanca Foundation for its contributions
to Philippine publishing through the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial
Awards for Literature anthologies. The MCC will also recognize
the best-designed book of 1999, as well as the Publisher of
the Year, the publisher who contributed the most to the publishing
industry during the past year.
The MCC is a non-stock, nonprofit organization
of professional literary critics and newspapers columnists
who have been recognizing the country's best books with the
National Book Award since 1981. The MCC's current members
are Juaniyo Arcellana, Fr. Miguel Bernad, S.J., Isagani Cruz,
Ruel de Vera, Ophelia Dimalanta, Doreen Fernandez, Resil Mojares,
Danton Remoto and Alfred Yuson.
