Merlinda Bobis in "Kuwentuhan" lecture

CITY - LIKHAAN:
The U.P. Creative Writing Center in cooperation with the College
of Arts and Letters, will feature award-winning writer and
poet Merlinda Bobis in its Writers' Kuwentuhan Reading Series.
Bobis will conduct a performance/lecture called "Border
Lover: Reading Between Two Lovers," on February 15, Friday,
4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Vargas Museum lobby.
A former teacher of literature at the De
La Salle University, Bobis is now based in Australia. She
has won national awards for her poetry - both in English and
in Filipino. Her first collection of short stories, White
Turtle, published by De La Salle University, has been
published under the title The Kissing by Aunt Lute
in the United States.
Bobis' poems and short stories have appeared in Australian
and Philippine journals and magazines. She is the author of
a set of plays, War Trilogy: the first play, Ms. Serena
Serenata, was performed at Sydney's Belvoir Street Theater
in 1997; the second, Rita's Lullaby, won the Ian Reed
Radio Drama prize in 1995 and was produced and broadcast on
ABC Radio. Bobis has performed, with dance rendition, excerpts
from the third play, Promenade.
